The second concept that will be applied False Safety Behavior Elimination treatment. False Safety Behavior Elimination treatment “focuses chiefly on the elimination of anxiety maintaining behaviors and cognitive strategies (example: safety aids)” (Riccardi, Korte, & Schmidt, 2017). The safety aids that are introduced through false safety behavior elimination treatment help to alleviate anxiety, and in the long run exacerbate and maintain the anxiety to a minimal level. James has expressed that he began smoking cannabis to help calm him throughout the day, since he never knew when a flashback or negative thoughts from his past would pop up again. This is the case for many people, but this only provides short-term relief. “People who use cannabis
: Honeywell, which is a diversified technology and manufacturing company that addresses a few of the world’s toughest challenges with technology partnered with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), and decided to launch the Got 2B safe program, it was the result of two negative factors. First, a majority of the programs that are already established focuses on finding children once they have gone missing, and second there aren’t any programs preventing child abduction. The Got 2b safe program provided teachers with the necessary material to educate children about safety; the success of the program has earned Got 2B safe eight corporate responsibility awards and a Silver Anvil Award. The cause for Honeywell’s concern
Marijuana is a drug that is harmful to a person¡¯s health. It has been found to have adverse impacts on one¡¯s mental processes such as memory, attention, judgement, and problem- solving (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley, 2004, p.415). Also, marijuana can interfere with a person¡¯s ability to think rationally and logically. Thus, the lapse in judgement caused by the drug use can lead to risky sexual behaviours and this may result in increasing sexually transmitted disease such as AIDS. Moreover, the long-term use of marijuana may cause chronic breathing problems and cancer ...
Ever wonder why many individuals are reluctant to changing their behavior? Some see change as a means of restarting their life while others do not know the first step to take. Due to this, psychologist has created a program known as the Behavior Modification Analysis to aid individuals who face these problems. Within this program, persons with behavioral issues will determine their issue and why it needs to be modified. Then this program will form various reasons as to why individuals portray certain behaviors. Next, the target behavior and the assessment of behavior will be examined, measured and observed. Then, a frequency tracking of the behavior will be completed and results recorded. After obtaining the results, realistic goals will be
In thinking about helping someone develop a safety plan in case they find themselves in an intimate partner violence or IPV situation, I turned to a woman I know that is soon to be married. The couple has had some quarrels that verge on verbal abuse off and on for the past year. Although none have resulted in physical violence, learning about intimate partner violence allows me to see aspects of relationships in a different light than I have seen them before. The potential victim with whom I have chosen to facilitate the safety plan does not consider her relationship to be abusive, nor do I. However, the victim, Crissy, could use a plan of action if the verbally abusive fights begin to take a physical nature. This reflection will include the summary of developing the safety plan, the issues the plan brought up, and the emotional reflection of both the victim and myself. It is important to note that all names have been changed for the sake of confidentiality.
However, although marijuana has served as a medicinal agent, marijuana can also produce some adverse physiological effects; especially with patients with pre-existing medical conditions who use marijuana may be at particular risk. For instance, altho... ... middle of paper ... ... Guttman (1996). The role of the generalist in the care of the substance-abusing client.
Self-destructive thoughts can lead to self-destructive action, which can easily manifest itself as drug use and abuse as a form of self medication. Cognitive-behavior therapy seeks to alleviate these destructive thoughts through focusing on thoughts, images, beliefs, and attitudes and how these ideas affect the way a patient thinks to deal with emotional problems (Marrin, B., Psy.D., 2016). Cognitive-behavior therapy is very effective for practitioners with a large case load and limited time since sessions are only about fifty minutes long and only take a total of five to ten months to complete, as well as being very customizable to the particular clients needs, to create the most effective outcome. The three hypotheses of cognitive-behavior therapy, when fully implemented, can have the ability to deter future drug use/abuse, while also helping thus learn how to react differently to situations, making relapse because of particular life events less likely.
Memory is also a huge risk factor that someone could lose when someone uses marijuana. Memory is linked right with the brain. Also in the memory category is a person’s thinking, said person’s thinking is greatly affected when someone uses marijuana. The part of the brain that gives a person “good feelings” is greatly affected when the use of mar...
Hundreds of household products are being misused as inhalants. Some of these products include nail polish remover, hair spray, cleaning fluids, spray paint, and the propellant in aerosol whipped cream (“Inhalants“, 2010). Inhalants are breathable chemical vapors that users intentionally inhale because of the chemical’s mind-altering effects (National Institute on Drug Abuse [NIDA], 2010). The trend in inhalant abuse is growing among the young community throughout the country. Surveys have shown in 2008 2 million Americans of 12 or over reported using inhalants (NIDA, 2010). Young children from the age of 12 to 17 are the primary age group of abusers (National Drug Intelligence Center [NDIC], 2001). The numbers reflect that it is becoming more popular for young America to abuse the various inhalants available to them without realizing the short term and long term effects of the drug.
The use of drugs and mind-alternating substances has been a part of society for decades. The ‘high’ that people attain from the use of such substances is very attractive and exciting however, the effects of this use are minimized. Particularly for youth, a group of individuals who are seeking independence and experimentation, drug use represents the balance between taking risks and taking responsibility for one’s actions. However, the developmental processes of adolescents are known to not encompass the maturity required to fully think through such decisions. As such, the use of a ‘smaller-scale’ drug like marijuana is even more minimized. The purpose of this paper is to discuss what the risks of using marijuana are for youths, why they are the most affected, how this problem has progressed over the last three decades, and what preventative measures and treatment options are in place. It will also discuss what schools, parents, and government agencies could be doing to help improve the issue, and the impact that this issue is having on society.
I cringe upon hearing how some parents, teachers and co-workers "laugh-off" the devastating effects of excessive and addictive marijuana use. It is a dangerous misconception that marijuana is not addictive. One of the primary reasons for so few marijuana addicts ever receiving treatment for their addiction is because the magnitude of the damage it causes and the drug itself is undermined and misjudged. *Here, I will briefly outline some of its major harmful effects: Mental Short term memory loss, is one of the very early effects of marijuana use. As using continues, this progresses to extreme long-term memory loss where abusers of this drug forget extended periods of time within their lives.Mental fatigue occurs amongst users as a
Safety management system is organized structure of providing safety to an organization. Since the first aircraft flew, there have always been efforts on improving the capabilities. Safety and the reliability are the two major aspects among a lot more features that are to be developed. Safety in a department can be achieved and maintained by introducing different practices that in turn promote safety. SMS is one such structure which in an organization will look over some of the following; Introduction to basic Human Factors, The Dirty Dozen, Combating Complacency etc. SMS in a company is always hungry for information to update and to make the staff aware of the situations. The best source for this information is the people working in the organization. Here are the four pillars essentially, which form the basic structure of any management system.
One of the great effects of smoking marijuana has on me is the fact that it is a stress reliever. I suffer from several mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, serious anxiety, PTSD and ADHD. Being in college, I have experienced serious struggles and stresses that caused me to break down, give up, and even blackout. Having ADHD and PTSD can throw me off from focusing on things that are important. Either I am zoned out to a flash memory from my past or I am gazing at things around me
Safety is a primary concern in the health care environment, but there are still many preventable errors that occur. In fact, a study from ProPublica in 2013 found that between 210,000 and 440,000 patients each year suffer preventable harm in the hospital (Allen, 2013). Safety in the healthcare environment is not only keeping the patient safe, but also the employee. If a nurse does not follow procedure, they could bring harm to themselves, the patient, or both. Although it seems like such a simple topic with a simple solution, there are several components to what safety really entails. Health care professionals must always be cautious to prevent any mishaps to their patients, especially when using machines or lifting objects, as it has a higher
Though the nausea associated with the drug and mental imaging can deter patients away from alcohol and other substance abuse it does not eliminate the withdrawal symptoms associated with the cessation of using a substance. Although the disulfiram drugs can help prevent relapse, clients will still experience dependency symptoms. It is best that the disulfiram is combined with other treatments to be most effective. Another drawback of this research is that it can be considered unethical from some critics. The act of making clients induce their own sickness to stop a behavior could be detrimental to the patient’s health. The same goes for the administering of electric shock. In the past, it was not uncommon for electric shocks to be used on homosexual patients. This treatment is considered unethical because of the negative stigma around it from harming people in the past. It is also important to notice that these treatments may only be addressing the negative behavior instead of the underlying motivation behind the clients’ urges. It can be easy for the client to then just substitute the undesirable behavior with another one. Another point raised is that aversion therapy will not work on its’ own. Taking drugs to reduce the effects of a negative behavior usually results in clients dropping out of the treatment. Treatment may not always work. In learned behavior, extinction can sometimes occur that
People usually abuse marijuana by becoming addicted and smoking it just because instead of using it for their well-being. I went around and asked about ten people I know who have been smoking for at least five years. When I asked them if they had ever experienced memory problems, learning difficulties, trouble with problem solving and loss of muscle activity and addictive capability, they responded, “If anything, marijuana enhances my memory.” “I would not be able to learn in school if I did not smoke.” “The only problem I had, was being addicted to marijuana, but it was all in my head because when I finally stopped smoking, I had no withdrawal symptoms.” The only side effect that seemed to be accurate when asking these questions was the addictive properties. Although being addicted to marijuana mentally can be a problem, all of the many positive side effects of marijuana outweigh the one negative side effect that seems to be the most
