The rise and fall of Beowulf
In the epic poem Beowulf, the hero is well-regarded for tremendous achievements; as in other epic heroes, he is distinguished by the drive for relentless battles for a noble cause. In this poem will discover the heroic age in which monsters stalked men by night, dragons guarded hordes of precious gems and heirloom swords. Our hero in this poem is Beowulf, he transform from serving his lord to becoming a lord himself, to his demise with the battle with the dragon.

He proudly announces to the crowd that “When it comes to fighting, I count myself as dangerous as Grendel”. (677, 678). Neither will use shields or swords. Beowulf and his Geats rests in the mead-hall, Beowulf faces Grendel and the two start the fight, Beowulf realizes that no weapon is a match for Grendel, so he decides to fight him with his bear arms, Grendel discovered fast that Beowulf’s has a handgrip harder than anything he had ever encountered (750, 751). The fight ended by Beowulf severing the arm and shoulder of Grendel, which send him running to his den. Beowulf was granted the glory for defeating Grendel (817), as he gets showered with gifts, this will be the start of the rising of the hero. Upon discovering about the death of her, her revenge instinct takes over. She comes to Heorot to avenge her son’s death while warriors asleep in the hall; Beowulf is not in the hall at the time of the attack. Grendel’s mother takes Hrothgar’s closest most beloved friend, Aeschere (1296). She also takes Grendel’s arm and returns to her place. Hrothgar summoned Beowulf who requests his help again and describes the monster’s underground den, as he tells him of what he heard from people in the hall who lived in the upland country, they witnesses two monsters and one looks like a woman.
