Have you ever imagined what it would be like to have a one and a half foot lizard as a pet? It probably seems peculiar but many people find that lizards make great pets. One lizard that is incredibly cool is the bearded dragon. Bearded dragons come from the deserts of Australia and were first introduced to the United States in the 1990s. Bearded dragons can range from 12-24 inches, and usually live 12-14 years. They are called bearded dragons because when they feel threatened, they puff out their throat to scare the predator off. They also produce venom, but don’t worry, it’s not poisonous to humans.
There are many different bearded dragon species and the most common is the Pogona Vitticeps. They also come in many colors with a base of varying tans, reds, and yellows. Special bearded dragons like the leatherbacks and hypos can have vibrant blues too. Bearded dragons can be pricey and reptile enthusiasts can spend up to $1000 on specific bearded dragons. According to TheBeardedDragon.org, “Australia made it illegal to export any wildlife in the 1960’s. It is believed that all the bearded dragons found outside of Australia were smuggled out of the country from the 1970’s to the early 1990’s.” (“How to Care for Bearded Dragons”, thebeardeddragon.org) The USA now has an enormous population and doesn’t need to take in anymore.

The University of California Medical Teaching Hospital states, “They are generally very docile, and usually take well to handling. They are curious and attentive to their surroundings. Interesting behaviors include arm waving, head bobbing, and digging.” If you spend enough time with your bearded dragon it will look forward to your
(blackdrago.com) “Dragon images have been found on the Ishtar Gate of Babylon, on scrolls from China, in Egyptian hieroglyphs and Ethiopian sketches, on the prows of Viking ships, in bas relief on Aztec temples, on cliffs above the Mississippi River and even on bones carved by Inuits in climates where no reptile could live.” (McNeil) Stories of dragons can be found all through history. Over five thousand years ago, ancient Sumerian cultures had dragon legends in their religions. Modernly, few still believe dragons exist, they can still be found in our movies, books and video
These non venomous pythons have been documented to attack and constrict their owners which in turn have led handlers to release them illegally in the Everglades. Their existence and carnivore diet is concerning because these reptiles prey on native species that are endangered like the Key Largo woodrat and compete with threatened native species like the Indigo snake. Burmese pythons are part of the Federal Lacey Act and on the injurious list. This dictates that federal law does not allow transport across state lines nor foreign import of wildlife deemed injurious to the “health and welfare of humans, the interests of agriculture, horticulture or forestry, and the welfare and survival of wildlife resources of the

Burmese pythons (Python molurus) are popular pets in the United States because of their attractive color pattern, reputed docility, and the allure, for some, of owning a giant snake. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, approximately 99,000 Burmese pythons were imported to the United States between 1996 and 2006, compared to only 17,000 between 1970 and 1995. The species is classified by the World Conservation Union as “near threatened” in its native range in Southeast Asia due to exportation for the pet trade and hunting for skins. Thousands of pythons are also captive bred each year in the U.S. for sale as pets. An inexperienced snake keeper who takes home a 20-inch hatchling is, within a year, responsible for a brawny eight-foot predator.

Dragon--even mentioning the word strikes terror into the very center of the hearts of some men. But to others, a dragon is nothing more than a make-believe fairy tale, or a mystical monster. Recently, startling, new, scientific discoveries have shed light on this controversial subject. Dragons, Do They Really Exist? This study, compiled of shocking new facts, seems to prove that the animals known as the dragon, does, in fact, exist.
Should exotic snakes or other large reptiles be allowed as pets in Florida? Right now these escaped/released feral reptiles create an estimated $120 billion in environmental damage each year according to David Steen on Slates Animal Blog.
Everyone has heard about how to train your dog but how about training your dragon? I’m going to show you the multiple, yet easy steps in how to train your dragon. In this first example you are going to learn how to train your dragon to use the dog door. You must first start off with observational learning. Observational learning occurs when an observers behavior changes after viewing the behavior of a model. You first need to get your dragons attention and make sure he’s only focusing on you. Once you have gained his attention walk up to the dog door and simply crawl through it. Make sure your dragon watches you do this multiple times. Not only does your dragon need to gain attention of what you 're doing, he also needs to have retention in

The Argentinosaurus, translated to the Argentine lizard, was believed to be 130 feet long and weighed a whopping 110 tons. It had a 35 to 45 foot long neck with a head size of about 4 to 5 basketballs. The Argentinosaurus was discovered in 1993 by Guillermo Heredia. It was unearthed in present-day Argentina, and is also named after this South American country. Scientists have not yet found the complete skeleton of the Argentinosaurus. Paleontologists found 4 foot long vertebrae and 5 foot long tibiae belonging to the Argentinosaurus.
The cane toad is native to South and mainland Central America, but has been introduced to various islands throughout Oceania including Northern Australia. It is one of the largest toads in the world and can live for 10 – 15 years in the wild.
So far, Laurence and Temeraire, his dragon, have been on a ship going to China. Now that the festivities have concluded, Temeraire has obtained a cold, probably from the other dragons that have visited the ship. Though
Fire needs three key things to ignite: heat, fuel, and an oxidizing agent (usually oxygen). Supposing dragons breathe like mammals, the oxygen that dragons draw into their lungs isn’t completely depleted when they exhale . For healthy humans inhaling it’s about 20.9%, and exhaling it’s about 15.3%. Not a huge difference, but this is a dragon and they would have to have larger lungs so a larger lung capacity, and a larger amount of oxygen left in their lungs after exhaling. The amount of oxygen they would still have in their body after they exhaled wouldn’t be too much, but it would be just enough to coax a small flame out of the dragon’s body (not nearly large enough to burn the inside of the dragon’s mouth). When it’s out, the oxygen in the air will keep it alive. As you can see in the picture to the left, the dragon is emitting fire outside the mouth. There is only a little flame as inside of it so there is no reason that the dragon would burn the inside of its mouth, and it also proves that they use the oxygen in the air.
“Dragons. Four fully grown, enormous, vicious-looking dragons were rearing on their hind legs inside an enclosure fenced with thick planks of wood, roaring and snorting- torrents of fire were shooting into the dark sky from their open, fanged mouths, fifty feet above the ground on their outstretched necks.” (p286)
The remains of these dinosaurs were found on every continent except Antarctica thus proving that they were very widespread. Sauropods had the most long lived life span when compared to other animals. Their existence expanded up to 100 million years. This was a very long time, especially for such a large animal to maintain itself (Klein, 2011). However, after many years, they began to die one by one due to the challenges that presented themselves in the wild. For example, vegetation became scarce. They began to starve and became an easier prey to predators. Eventually, this led to
