Reshmi Chavva Mr. Richardson ENG3UI-09 Monday March 31, 2014 Novel: Three-Day Road Author: Joseph Boyden ISU Themed-related Quotations Three-Day Road explores the story of two young Cree men, Xavier and Elijah, as their journey together tests their friendship, identity and the numerous challenges that they face. World War One has come to an end, as soldiers return home, badly wounded and scarred. The aunt of Xavier, his only family member, patiently waits for her nephew’s arrival, whom she had last seen as a young boy. She is shocked to find him lose a leg, addicted to morphine, and troubled by the nightmares of the war, mostly on the brink of death.
Similarly, Xavier and Elijah from Three Day Road go through a path of losing love and friends eventually turning to enemies. To begin, Xavier and Elijah war quickly noticed by other comrades because of their hunting skills. Xavier and Elijah grew up with a native background where Xavier doesn’t see killing as an ordinary thing to do. This is seen when Xavier is being shot at for the first time. He witnesses how close it was for him to be killed, responding, “The other side wants to kill me, and I’ve never even seen their faces” (Boyden, 33). Much like Paul, Xavier share many similarities to show guilt, shame and innocence. Xavier as well as Paul, thinking for all his comrades and there service for the war. Showing how his culture has taught and raised him to do so. War gives soldiers the main purpose to kill, while for Paul and Xavier killing a human is not morally wrong. In addition, Paul, like Xavier haves regret and shame for all the comrades and enemies that they have lost. This causes them to go into a state of anger and guilt which they cannot control. This is seen after Xavier cannot think straight after destroying a base along with enemies, Xavier proclaims, “I replay it over and over in my head so that I don’t sleep all night, pulling the pin on my mill bomb, throwing it and watching it arc until it disappears into the crater, the concussion and screams. I have killed someone now” (Boyden, 75). Images of horror replay in Xavier head after he kills a group of men. It is shown that Xavier is attached emotionally to his victims. While most soldiers are alone and cannot express their feelings, this leaves these thoughts as a burden which can lead to insanity. However, Xavier finds love during the war which gave him hope again...
Flink’s Three stages of American automobile consciousness fully express the progress of the whole automobile industry. From the first model T to the automatic production, it gives me an intuitive feeling of the automobile history from a big picture. On the other hand, Kline and Pinch focus more on a certain group of people--farmers or people who live in the rural area, they use it as an entry point to talk about automobile, alone with the role and duty transition between male and

...wer in reality will be driving a newer model vehicle and attached this dream life to this particular vehicle. The car itself is almost like any other new car in the lot, but with the careful use of new modern manipulation the viewer will desire this car over any other. That is until a new commercial replaces the Kia commercial in the viewer’s mind.
So as I was obsessively looking over all the Roadside Attraction trailers, I noticed that Candy kept sticking out and I think that she’s going to be important in this episode.

Early 20th century, the automobile was vastly used by the rich, due to its high pricing and complicated machinery models. Most models required a chauffeur acquainted with the individual model’s mechanics. This sole reason drove Henry Ford’s determination to build a simple, yet reliable and affordable car. Porsche came out with the models of 914 and 944 because they take the consumers with lower income into account during the recession of 1970s. They redesign, reposition and reprice the vehicles so that it is allow the consumers to purchase the product for the purpose of social class, family needs or status. With this, Porsche still able to create loyal customers even if the economic situation did affected their business when they have considered their customers’ personal income, savings and interest
The two most interesting things I have learned about in this book concern Porsche’s characteristics; for example, how the engine for the 901 Porsche was designed and where it was placed in the car. The engine instead of being placed in the front end like most cars is placed in the back end of the car to make it a rear drive instead of a front-end drive vehicle. It was designed this way for better speed performance. The other thing I thought was interesting was the modeling. When Butzi Porsche modeled Porsche, not only did he want speed, he wanted to have something original, fast looking, and small so he and an artist got together and found a great design. Butzi would tell the artist what he wanted the car to look like and the artist would create a model drawing. It took them seven months to get the right design and the car sold great!
“Now, on this road trip, my mind seemed to unwrinkle, to breathe, to present to itself a cure for a disease it had not, until now, known it had” (Elizabeth Berg, The Year of Pleasures).

TS Vienna is full of food contrasts. PS On one side of the street is Vienna's street food, on the other side are fancy restaurants. SS The sausage stands came really handy, whenever I took a long walk and wanted something to eat while sight seeing. SS They usually serve a proper sausage like Käsekrainer, Bosna, and Burenwurst with fillings like pickles, sauerkraut, and caramelized onions. PS. There are so many gourmet and quality restaurants all over Vienna that sometimes it is hard to pick. SS Once I went to a Viennese tavern, called Wirtshäuser or Beisln, where I had a simple hearty comfort meal, that included some great crispy skinned pork, sauteed sauerkraut, and a cold potato salad. SS I enjoyed it very much! PS The other one I explored, was the restaurant of contradiction between the extravagant and the fun. SS They served Gulasch (similar to steak tartare), basically raw meat. SS Even though it was fancy and I felt like there was royal blood running through my veins, I ended up not eating it, but I paid the full price for it. CS However, it was a great experience and I would love to go back and enjoy more edible food.
