Expository Essay How are you using your “powers” today? Are you using your gifts to influence lives positively? The character Merlin from the Arthurian-legend inspired show The Adventures of Merlin shares 3 common similarities with me. First, to be useful with your gifts and potentials. Second, Use your gifts to your fullest potential. Last but not least, use your gifts to create a positive impact. In a land where magic and sorcery was highly feared and threatened, Merlin was blessed with the gift of magic. I know, worst situation possible! but not to fear, Merlin decides to use his gifts to save lives and to preserve the posterity of a great city and its people. Instead of causing chaos he decides to use it for good. Time is a valuable gift and luckily for me I had downtime. At first Merlin used his magic for foolish pranks and kept it confidential due to the strict no magic law in Camelot. What are your gifts? How are you using them? It can even be the simplest of actions. I tutor my younger sister in spelling every other day. By doing this it shows me that living and using our gifts and talents are what brings fulfillment in not only our lives but in others. How are you using your 'powers' today? Are you using your gifts to influence lives positively? Many people are good at something but they use that thing in which they are gifted in to frustrate the lives of people around them. Even though it isn’t a unique gift, I like to lend a hand. Last Sunday , my church hosted an annual homeless hypothermia program. They provide a place to stay, and food for those in need. I was fortunate enough to help out and pack bags with blankets, hats, and other things to retaliate the cold. It showed me that when we succeed in using our gifts many people equally benefit from
Last semester, I planned my first outreach event at the church. We had bounce houses, face painting, food, games, and candy. I worked so hard to get this put together and even members of the church used their own money to purchase things to make this event happened. There was door to door evangelizing going on in the surrounding neighborhoods to get the word out, and there were only two people in the community that showed up. Two people.
‘I love Guenevere, the daughter of King Leodegrance of the land of Cameliard, who holdeth in his house the table round that ye told me had been given to him by my father Uther. And this damsel is the most valiant and fairest lady that I know living, or yet that ever I could find.’ ‘Sir,; said Merlin, ‘as of her beauty and fairness she is one of the fairest alive (The Marriage of King Arthur).

There was a death in the Trap house. Arthur Trap is lying at the bottom of the stairs dead with a glass in his hand. Was this a regrettable accident or murder? His spouse, Queenie Trap, claims that Arthur was drunk and fell down the stairs causing his death. Some may argue that Arthur’s death was an accident, however, the investigators should rule Arthur’s death a murder because of the suspicious body position and Queenie’s presence and claims.
Morgan Le Fay is a powerful enchantress who often appears as a side character in many Arthurian Legends. Along with being a witch, Morgan also possesses many supernatural powers. Her main abilities are to shapeshift into animals and objects, and she is an expert in botany. She knows how to use plants to heal the sick and injured, but she can also use them to cause harm to others. The myth of Morgan Le Fay comes from Celtic origins, which explains why she is such a complicated character; Celtic culture valued people who were multifaceted. Morgan is first introduced in “The Life of Merlin” and her name is spelled as “Morgen.” She heals King Arthur and is considered to be a valuable person to the kingdom. Morgan le Fay is a magical figure and demigod from the Arthurian legend(Jones 256). During her childhood, she was drawn to magic arts, she wore a Druid stone as a talisman, and pursued the knowledge first from her nurse, then from the gods
When I was younger my grandfather would take me to a kitchen where I would help put together bags of food and other necessities for homeless people in the area. My grandmother worked at a nursing home so I would come up and entertain the people who didn’t get many visitors, and assist them to the best of my abilities. Helping those people every other week was so much fun, and I have always just loved helping out people in any way possible. I even helped from home, by helping my mom with bake sales that the profit made would go to various charities. I am not in StuCo, but I usually help them pack food for families in need through “Got Your
Since the first segment of the series was released in 1997, Harry Potter has been challenged by churches and parents due to the practicing of magic by children found within the books. The books have been removed from school shelves, discouraged by churches, and censored by parents. It is claimed that Harry Potter is devilish, satanic, and encourages children to practice the occult, damaging their religious views (LaFond). Therefore, many parents keep their children from reading the book series. Yet, Harry Potter has been such a positive influence on my so many lives. Evident through the movies, theme parks, stores, and much more, J.K. Rowling’s series has been an overwhelming success for many reasons (“Because it’s his…”). In order to encourage
Magic is described as the concept of rationality or way of thinking that looks to invisible forces to influence events, fight evil with magical weapons or powers, or mystical beings helping mortal. I went to the grocery store and got cases of water, bags of bread, and stuff to make the sandwiches. I had finished preparing the bags and each had granola bars, fruit, ham and cheese sandwiches, water, toothpaste, and other hygiene products. My dad and I had arrived outside the homeless shelter and were ready to pass the bags out as we saw the swarm of people. Hundreds maybe even thousands of people gathered sitting in what little shade there was. I knew we had a homeless problem, but not to this extent and the bags I had made were going to make little to no difference on the vast amount of people that had been sitting outside. I was a little disappointed at first to be completely honest because I was not prepared for that many people. If I would have known there would have been so many people I would have made more bags. We drove around the block planning on what we were going to do and saw some tents set up. My dad and I were curious as to what they were, so we got out the car and saw that these people had been giving people food and I walked up to them and asked if there was any way I could help them. These people in the tents were actually an organization called Open Arms Outreach and a few girls scouts. They gladly let us help and we brought a few cases of water and the bags I had made and helped pass them out. The organization Open Arms Outreach
I also had the privilege of helping with the Meals on Wheels non profit organization. My grandfather used to be a Meals on Wheels recipient and he would share with me how he enjoyed looking forward to their company and a hot meal daily. I volunteered because I wanted to give back and help someone else’s loved one in the same way. It was very rewarding delivering hot meals to people who didn’t have the means of getting one as well as being there for them to talk to. Overall, it was a very humbling experience, it made me realize just how blessed I am and how much I take for granted daily.
I volunteered at East Parkside Nursing Home through my church 's mentoring program. At first, I was somewhat uncomfortable volunteering at a nursing home because my great-grandfather, among many others, was mistreated in a nursing home. But, as the day went on and we engaged in activities with the residents, I eventually calmed down and got into the smooth of things. We had one-on-one contact with the seniors, and we learned about their lives and families. One of the seniors was a veteran who fought in the Vietnam War and he told all of the volunteers a few short war stories. For several residents, their families rarely visited them, so they genuinely appreciated the volunteers spending time with them. Later, we made holiday cards and sang Christmas carols for the senior citizens. They seemed so elated and pleased, which made me feel so fulfilled that I could make someone 's day by doing something so
The most joyous season of the year in our house is Christmas. All the family gets together, gifts are exchanged and we give thanks for all that we have. This Christmas however, was one that I will never forget. If it weren't for the help of a stranger coming to my rescue, my holidays would have been ruined. He reminded me that a little kindness really does go along way.
