Before you get behind the wheel of a vehicle and hit the open road, you need insurance. However, insurance rates for teenagers can be really high. If your parents are hesitating to add you to their insurance policy because they fear the high costs that will come with adding you as a driver, you can win them over by letting them know you will take the following courses of action outlined below to lower your insurance:
Step #1: Complete A Driver's Education Course
The first thing you need to do is sign up for and complete a driver's education course. See if your school offers driver's education courses or if there is a driving school in your area.
Not only will you impress your parents with your dedication towards learning how to be a safe driver, you can also save on your

insurance rates by completing a driver's education course. Most insurance companies offer a set discount for a specific number of years for any driver that completes a driver's education or safety course. Before you sign up for the course, make sure it is an approved course through your insurance that will earn that a discount. Step #2: Keep Your Grades Up One of the best ways to show your parents that you are responsible enough to drive is to keep your grades up.
Try to achieve at least a B average or higher on your next report card.
Not only will earning and maintaining at least a B average impress your parents, it will also impress your insurance company. The vast majority of insurance companies offer discounts to students who get good grades; maintaining good grades is a great way to show your insurance company that you are responsible as well.
Step #3: Save Enough Money To Cover A High Deductible
One of the simplest ways for your parents to save money on their insurance is by raising their deductible. The deductible is how much cash your parents will have to pay out of their own pockets to fix a vehicle before their insurance company will step in and help them with your costs.
Before you suggest this money saving tip to your parents, save up enough money to cover the highest deductible that your parent's insurance company offers and put this money away in a saving account. Then, let your parent's know that you have saved enough to cover a higher deductible should anything happen while you are
driving. If you follow the three steps as outlined and suggested above, you may just be able to convince your parents to allow you to drive one of their vehicles or even get your own. All of the suggestions above will not only show your parents that you are responsible enough to drive, these suggestions will also reduce the cost of adding you to their insurance policy.
A deductible is how much money you have to pay out of pocket before your insurance will pay for the rest. Let's say you total your car, your insurance may ask that you pay off 1,000$ worth of the damages before they pay. Though there is no universal amount that you have to pay, it fluctuates with what insurance you have. It typically fluctuates on how expensive the insurance is. If you have a more expensive insurance the deductible will usually be lower, rather than higher like someone with a lower expense insurance. Even if you have a high deductible you are still able to negotiate with the insurance company to get a lower deductible.
Health care costs affect family finances in two major ways: out-of-pocket spending, such as co-pays, deductibles, and prescriptions, and the family’s share of the health insurance premium. The United States health care spending growth continues to annually increase in expenditures that have stabilized at less than 4% per year. Rising cost-sharing is largely at...
Health insurance is currently an important issue in the United States. Everyday more and more Americans become uninsured due to job loss and an increase in premiums. These Americans add to the ever growing population of 45.7 million people who are currently uninsured (Bialik). Moreover only 27% of those uninsured are under the age of 65 (NCHC). This is staggering considering most of those who are uninsured have, or soon will, suffer from some sort of illness or injury. As a result they will not be able to afford proper treatment. Insurance premiums can range in cost from fifty dollars per month, to fifteen hundred dollars per month (Kreidler). An individual’s premium is determined by factors they choose as well as other factors looked at by their provider. The cost of health insurance in America varies depending on the controllable factors, like particular insurance policies, and uncontrollable factors, like age.
In the 21st century, our nation is facing a major issue, causing teenagers to lose their lives at the hand of the wheel due to inexperienced driving. “Teen drivers between the ages of 16 and 19 are four times more likely than older drivers to be involved in an automobile crash,” and statistics show. Automobile accidents are the number one cause of teen deaths. Driving regulations are in high need to be changed in order for teenagers to gain more experience with driving before taking the driving test, which could help save countless adolescence’s lives.
Teens need to be taught that driving is a task that is complex and demanding. Parents know how much experience a young driver has, and they know exactly how inconvenient it is when they have to drive with their teen everywhere while they have their permit. Teens tend to cause most traffic accidents in adults’ eyes. They are not experienced yet, and often fail to pay attention to others on the road. They often think of a car as being some type of toy, but they do not know how powerful it really is. The driver education programs must be strengthened in order to make sure that students really have safer habits, behind the wheel experience, and by having a better understanding of all the laws on the road.
Most parents think getting their teens their driver's license will lift a weight off of their backs when in reality it seems to only do the opposite once the facts of insurance and statistics come into play. The article “Teen Drivers” provides some statistic such as, “A driver’s licence is a ticket to freedom! At last, teens can drive themselves to school, work and recreational activities .”(“Teen Driving,” par 1) This is a fact of how this small piece of plastic placed in the hands on a teen can be seen as a ticket to freedom. Another thing the article states is, “Parents are thrilled because they do not have to chauffeur the kids around anymore.”(“Teen Driving, par 2) This statement reveals how parents get their freedom back as well teens are gaining their first taste of freedom. But also with this freedom most teens don't realize just how scary the road is and when their parents are no longer driving with them they become nervous and many not be as safe as they could be, which leads me to the thought of many they should choose to take certain steps to create safe driving
Although health insurance can be beneficial because providers get paid for the services they provide to the patient the insurance premiums and deductibles are in many instances way more than many families across the United States can afford. With these extremely high costs for insurance statics show that over 40 million families’ can’t afford or have access to needed health care systems. “It shows that one-fifth of Americans couldn 't afford one or more of these services: medical care, prescription medicines, mental health care, dental care, or eyeglasses (R...
In Wyoming especially kids have to drive long distances to get to college on a regular basis. For example, if I were to go to the University of Wyoming I would have to drive at least five hours to get from my house to the college. That would be every weekend or so that is be driving alone on that commute. That is an outrageous amount of being alone driving. The years of practice with your parents and alone at home from age sixteen to twenty one would be extremely beneficial to these college students. With the proper instruction and practice in those years you could go far and become a great driver. Furthermore, the driving age is perfect as it is for the necessary practice for young adults on the way to
If a teen gets his/her own insurance they would pay $ 1,800 for six months coverage. But, if they were added to their parent’s insurance policy, the policy would increase $ 600. However through the teen must be added to the parent’s policy within 60 days of getting his/her license, or the teen runs the risk of falling into a different insurance level, which translates into higher premium.
For some consumers, buying health insurance is the only health coverage option. However, some of them may still be an option to save money.
Driving a car and obtaining a driver’s license does perhaps seem to provide people with a great sense of independence and freedom. Teenagers need to feel independent in order to learn to become successful on their own as well as realize how to handle life situations on their own, and having a license seems the perfect start and most effective way to do so. When teenagers feel this independence they tend to act more mature, knowing the responsibilities they must now carry on their own (More4Kids). Teenagers often look forward to the freedom that driving offers as well. Teenagers are able to take drives to escape from life’s many stressed, and leave any troubles at home behind without rebelling out against their loved ones.
My experience with learning to drive started in middle school where kids were too young to enroll in driving classes. My parents were a busy pair and I was an athlete who was determined to do my best for my team. This of course meant I was required to train with my team to build a chemistry with them. I drove myself to
“Don’t let a bad grade define who you are or what you will become.” This quote summarizes just why it is a bad idea to talk to a professor about your grades after the fact. It will not help to ask for extra credit or a bump up. Asking for that is only going to reflect poor character traits. Trying to fix grades after is also pointless.
“Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of unintentional deaths for teens (16-17),” reported The New York State Department of Health. The most exciting thing about being sixteen in the United States is driving. Teenagers can not wait to be sixteen to drive, however, they do not understand the dangers that come with driving at such a young age. Sixteen is the age between child life and adulthood. It is a time when they are not stable and undergoing change, which makes them unsuitable to drive. Many teenagers would say that they need to get to places. In response to that claim, there are public transportation systems and bikes as available alternatives for young drivers. The financial stability and matureness of eighteen year olds proves
Many accidents are caused because teenagers are unaware of driving risks and hazardous situations. One piece of evidence that shows that teenagers need driving experience appears in the following quote, “Teens are more likely than older drivers to underestimate dangerous situations or not be able to recognize hazardous situations,” ("Teen Drivers: Get the Facts"). Teenagers will not have enough driving experience if the driving age is lifted. If teenagers are allowed to drive at sixteen then they will be prepared to drive later on. The longer one waits to drive, the longer it takes for them to become prepared for the risks and hazards of
