Exploring the Career in Lodging Industry

Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to explore a career in the lodging industry. The elements investigated include job responsibilities, career opportunities, trends, skills and attitudes necessary for success, professional organizations, and a self analysis. This research is based on an interview, hospitality magazines, textbooks, academic articles, trade journals, websites and blogs.
In order to understand hospitality, one must know where it comes from and what it exactly means. The word “hotel” comes from the Latin adjective ‘hospitale’, which means hosts. Hospitale originated from the noun ‘hospes’ denoting someone who gives or receives hospitality. This term has seen a lot of transformation during the past centuries. Today the word refers to an establishment that rents furnished rooms or suites for a specific time.
Lodging operations refers to all professions that accommodate guests. This activity includes hotels, campgrounds , and bed & breakfasts. Lodging operations is a very important aspect of hospitality in the US, because american hotels attracts many visitors each year. It is also very important because it creates many job positions.
The classification of hotels helps to guide the guest’s choice, and to make a distinction between small and big hotels. In this type of classification the size of the hotel is widely taken into account. Some other factors also count, such as amenities, and quality of the services. Most of the five stars hotels, are big and modern hotels. The quality of the services is one of the most important aspects.
