Every year, there are thousands of students planning and tracking their goals. Seniors in high school are faced with the tough challenge, while the Juniors are left to worry about another year. Finally, the point comes in a student’s life where they must make one of the most important decisions in their educational lifetime. That choice is, which college to attend, and it is a very scrutinous process. Two of such colleges are the University of Iowa and St. Ambrose University, and although similarities like majors and minors are evident, there are many other differences including student life.
When I entered college at LSU, in the fall of 2009, I was undecided in my major. I did this purposefully because I wanted to give myself the opportunity to have one full year to try out a variety of classes and truly allow myself to find my passion. It was during my second semester at LSU that I took KIN 2500, a human anatomy course, and felt the feeling I had been hoping I would fe...
The presupposition of Preparing for a Career by Derek Bok indicates that vocational majors and liberal arts major should merge to help students prepare for their career. Bok states that vocational college only prepare students for the future, but does not teach students the basic knowledge such as U.S history, English, reading and how to think critically and understand what one’s learning. The three archetypes that exemplify what college should do to help students develop intellectual breadth and lifelong learning skills are to combine the vocational and the liberal arts majors together, give students opportunities to build connections in their major, and instructors should give student feedback about their work and what other employers
I hope to leave NC State as a young adult who is ready and prepared to enter society with a determined mindset and hard work ethic. I believe that I will be perfectly capable of achieving my goals and and aspirations as an NC graduate, and will graduate with the experience to take on challenges that may await me in a future career. Although I am still unsure of my desired field of study, I am confident that I will be able to discover a career path I will enjoy through the Exploratory Studies college. I am excited to enroll as an undergraduate student at NC State, and look forward to the opportunities ahead of me in the college of Exploratory
Consultation as a strategy to support positive outcomes in students, classrooms, school systems and communities is widely used and implemented throughout the education system. The purpose of this paper is to delineate some commonalities and differences between three widely used consultation models in the education system: Instructional Consultation (IC), Multicultural School Based Consultation (MSC) and Organizational Consultation (OC). This paper will 1) highlight the unique theoretical backgrounds of each consultation method, 2) discuss existing empirical support for each method 3) compare and contrast these methods of consultation and 4) present a concrete example case through the lens of each of the three models.
IU Southeast’s Business Theater major not only grants her the opportunity to continue performing, it also gives her a degree in business which broadens her horizons. This is one thing Megan really likes about IU Southeast. She appreciates the fact that she can complete two different majors without taking on the excessive course load of double majoring. This concept of Megan being able to pick from a broad spectrum of degrees allows her to fulfill the first promise of the IU Southeast brand, which is Degrees for dreamers, doers, and leaders.

The observation matters because deciding students like me can see that there is a wide variety of topics which we can major or minor in, and if we dislike our major or minor we can always switch.
There are many factors that a student must consider when choosing a major. Most of the time student chooses a major that they think that allows them to earn the most money, and forgetting about the factor that they are able to pass the class or not. Most of the students are focused only on the money, no matter what kind of major it is. The student now a day’s does not take the time to figure out what is it that they would like to do in their career. Most students are taking up a major in business administration, which has more chance of making money faster and easier than the rest of the majors. The factors that a student must consider when choosing a major are whether the student would get good grades in the classes of that major or not, another factors are that how much that major is going to cost them to complete. Many students does not get any financial aid and end up having to drop out of college due to the lack of money, and whether that major is promising or not; for instance will it give that student a good job or not after graduation.
Finishing high school with an honors diploma and many other honors awards, I wanted to keep the momentum through college. With curiosity in business, finance, informatics and language, I wanted to minor in diverse subjects. However, with a goal to graduate in four years, choosing a major that did not allow time for other minors hindered my self-motivation. Thinking I cannot change majors after freshman year of college, on one side I started to limit myself from pursuing my curiosities. Nevertheless, I vigorously pursued the unknown, researching everything I could to find a solution to satisfy my curiosities. Towards the end of sophomore year, I discovered LAMP and soon became intrigued by how businesses were managed. In particular, I was fascinated by how computers had changed businesses in t...

These are some classes offered in HDFS: child guidance and parenting, contemporary family issues, multiethnic society, early childhood education, human sexuality, child development, lifespan development, psychology and,
Choosing a major is never an easy work. I have to know and understand the major in the first place, and then seek the value of learning that major. Based on my own experience, I have to get clear with the subjects that I need to learn. Most importantly, what is my future going to be if I choose that major as the direction of my life. As an electrical engineering student, I believe that the technology surrounds us will continue to expand and engineers will lead the way.
A large percentage of students change their majors, at least once, before they graduate and many freshmen enter as undecided. General education courses can help these students decide on what their future is going to consist of. If I was clueless as to what I wanted to major in, then personally, I would take a multitude of different courses. I am far more willing to explore many different disciplines,
One of the most important decisions an undergraduate will make will be deciding what they will major in. This academic and life choice will ultimately decide how an individual will view their college experience and help guide them with their future career choices. Choosing the wrong major can be too stressful and overwhelming for a student with more course work than expected. On the other side of the spectrum, the wrong choice in a major will not challenge the individual to bring out their full potential. “Ideally, a major will leave a student academically successful, as well as fulfill academic, personal, and vocational goals “(“The Pennsylvania State University Division of Undergraduate Studies,” n.d.). For most college students choosing a major is a difficult decision, especially when they are not mentally and rationally matured. When choosing a major it is implied that most people are logical and rational, and that they weigh the pros and
Advising is the form of informing someone about the best course of action to take in a specific situation. Advising is especially popular in universities. There is a strong correlation between advising and the retention of college students on campus. An advisor is able to help a student make a decision in a critical situation. This helpfulness from an advisor can help decrease anxiety. Anxiety is known to be a major issue for students on campus, especially for students who are undecided when it comes to picking a major (Cuseo 2005, Habley1994, Lewallen 1994, and Burton 1998).
