Tests. Do you hate all the time spent on testing? Trust me, I know most kids get tired of it. There are two sides to this essay. One side is we should spend less time in testing. The other side is we need all the time on testing. What I argue is we do not need to waste all of our time on testing.
Well first, kids should not have to spend all their time on testing. If kids spend to much time on testing soon enough, they will get tired of it and not do there best. Also if kids stay up all the time trying to study for these tests they won’t get any sleep. Without sleep how will they be able to focus. Thats why kids should not have to spend all their time on testing.
Second of all, if the students do testing all the time the teacher
Parents should try and help there kids with homework and help educate them as much as possible. These kids don’t need to be tested every to see if there smart or not. Test gives some of these children anxiety. You can’t learn if you are giving them test every day. You need to give them material to cover and to learn form it day by day.
Despite the view that there is too much standardized testing, a majority of respondents said parents should not excuse their children from tests. A majority also said they think test scores are "somewhat important" in judging the effectiveness of their local schools.
Finally some people say the tests are good because they show how the students are doing. Without the tests there is no good way to tell how the students are doing and who needs help. There is too much time spent on testing. There is 20-25 hours a year spent on testing and that does not count practice or learning time. Some may say tests are the best way to show how students are doing but there is still too much time spent on testing.
Standardized testing is not the best way to measure how well a teacher teaches or how much a student has learned. Schools throughout the United States put their main focus on standardized tests; these examinations put too much pressure on the teachers and students and cause traumatizing events. Standardized testing puts strain on teachers and students causing unhealthy occurrences, Common Core is thrown at teachers with no teaching on how to teach the new way which dampers testing scores for all students, and the American College Test determines whether a child gets into college or not based on what they have learned during high school. Standardized tests are disagreeable; tests should not determine ranking of people.
More than 70 percent of students have said that they have stress caused by homework
As child growing up some of the frightful memories include a visit to the dentist; an evil man with scary drill whose solve purpose is to hurt you or the first day in elementary school you finally leave all behind the cozy classrooms and nap times of kindergarten and enter the big leagues. All of these are considered a cakewalk compared to standardize testing. Since the start of elementary school students in the United States are taught to test. In many instances students are held back or placed in remedial classes because of lower grades. But many don’t realize that some students are not great at testing taking and because of the lower grades some educators believe that these students are lower achievers. This leads to lower self-esteem and encourage students to drop out in later years. Also students are forced to memorize information merely as facts without sparking their creativity or enhancing their knowledge.
NO HOMEWORK “I couldn’t do my homework because I was babysitting my little brothers” -anonymous 35% of the students in the U.S do not do their homework. 99.999% of those students claim they can’t because of other responsibilities. We should not have homework because students have other responsibilities, it’s time consuming, and they require devices that are only available in class. that you’re only going to use for only about a year or so. We should not have homework because students have other responsibilities.
It’s an age-old question. Do standardized tests really show what students know? Some may think they are a great way to measure education and others may think that one test does not justify a child’s knowledge. What is this test exactly? A standardized test is any test that requires all test takers to answer the same questions, or a selection of questions from a common bank of questions, in the same way. They are used to “judge” or “measure” the knowledge or skills that students learn in school. The problem with these standardized tests is that they measure all students on the same material, leaving out special skills the student may have. It also puts a great deal of stress on a student to know that they will be timed on these questions that
Alfie Kohn, author of The Case against Standardized Testing, recalls a specific incident of how children are being cheated out of valuable class time. He states that a school in Massachusetts used a remarkable unit, for a middle-school class, where students chose an activity and extensively researched it, and reported or taught, it to the class. This program has had to be removed from the course curriculum in order to devote enough time to teaching prescribed material for their standardized tests.
There is added pressure to schools to get better scores which adds pressure to the educators and the students. The added pressure can cause health problems with the students or the educators. If health problem come from the stress of the tests it could negatively affect the student’s ability to learn (Pros and Cons, 2013). The test itself is a problem as well. The test is supposed to be unbiased based on the grade level but in most cases the test is not. As much as they try...
“If my future were determined just by my performance on a standardized test, I wouldn't be here. I guarantee you that.” This quote by Michelle Obama illustrates the idea that standardized testing should not have such a large influence on education in America. However, a majority of people are under the impression that standardized tests are an accurate method to measure a person's intellectual ability. I believe that standardized tests have developed into a very critical part of the American education system; that is hindering the growth of students and teachers instead of providing a tool that can accurately measure knowledge.
if a student knew what the teacher is talking about in class but is not a good tester it make it seems like the student doesn't know anything. Although test help some students doesn't mean a test should measure how smart they are. So something schools can do to help that is to get rid of test. Students should be able to make presentation write a paper or something like that to let
Since the beginnings of elementary school, children across the nation are met with multiple standardized tests each year. These tests are designed to measure any given student’s intelligence, and to reflect the strength of a school’s administrators, teachers, and curriculum. However, tests like the Iowa Assessments, MAPS, and even the ACT and SAT do not serve as an accurate reading for a student’s academic abilities. Not only is each person blessed with different intelligences, but a vast number of students simply do not possess the motivation or desire to give their best effort in test performance. While other students fall on the opposite end of spectrum, by working their hardest in school but falling short on standardized tests due
When you don’t test children and their adult learning skills then you wouldn’t know where there leaning skills are. Because, if the children don’t test then how do you know where to place them in the right academic courses to be successful in
Testing is one of the big issues in our education system. The idea that the whole school curriculum should be planned around tests is a foolish one, if we want to get a quality education that we can actually learn something valuable from. Having students cram empty facts and memorize test answers is not teaching them it is just encouraging more stress and late nights. On some occasions, tests are a necessary evil to see if the student has actually learned anything from what they have been taught, but to gear the whole class a...
