Secondly,Lots of people spread bacteria by placing gum where it not supposed to be which leads me to my next topic littering.Around schools you can spot gum on walls, ceilings, under desk,on carpet, and on the floor. With gum being under desks it can be touched easily and cause germs to spread.About 45% of gum can be found under desks at school.Which is not a good thing for janitors because its cost a lot of money to buy materials they need for getting gum off or under desks.Which can cause the school to put more money towards materials for getting gum off of things instead of for school
Jolly Ranchers also propose a dental hazard. NFL player Barry White for the Dallas Cowboys had to miss a whole day of mandatory training camp because he chipped his tooth on a Jolly Rancher and had to undergo an emergency root canal. Once you suck on a Jolly Rancher for a long time, the hard candy becomes very hard and starts to sharpen. Then, you cut your tongue on the hard candy. Abby, even cut her tongue, yesterday, on a jolly rancher. Not to mention that her teeth were also stained blue due to a blue raspberry jolly
According to the American Dental Association, gum disease, also referred to as periodontal disease, occurs when the tissues that support and surround your teeth become infected. Many people are unaware they even have gum disease, because it isn’t a painful disease. Periodontal disease is caused by a film of sticky bacteria called plaque forming on the teeth.
Instead of being focused on other people’s breath or one’s own, students can focus on the teacher or the assignment because chewing gum freshens breath. The key thing in tests is to remember what you need to do. Chewing gum improves pupils memory making the test a little easier to do. If students do not have as much anxiety, they can focus on class instead of worries about their future grades or a missing homework assignment. So, why shouldn’t students have gum in school? Gum has many qualities which will improve students quality in the
causes tooth and gum disease, cancer, and even death begins to start. The negative side of this
The thing I dislike the most about chewing gum is where people leave it, on the bus, under tables and on the floor. It’s disgusting! Have you ever accidentally stepped on a piece of chewing gum just walking down the street? It gets stuck to your foot all day, you try and scrape it off, but it just isn’t budging. You then have to resort to using your fingers to pick off somebody else’s revolting ball of goo. People try and stick chewing gum where ever they can. What’s wrong with a bin? I was in class the other day and my knees touched the underside of the desk. I felt something squidgy touch knee (it was repulsive). Its not exactly hard to put something so small into a bin.
Red, inflamed or bleeding gums. Poor alignment of the teeth. Sores inside the mouth. Pockets between the gums and teeth, or receding gums. Bacteria can easily enter the bloodstream, contributing to additional systemic health issues.
You might guess it’s a custom dreamed up by a modern-day, real-life Willy Wonka, but people have been chewing gum, in various forms, since ancient times. There’s evidence that some northern Europeans were chewing birch bark tar 9,000 years ago, possibly for enjoyment as well as such medicinal purposes as relieving toothaches. The ancient Maya chewed a substance called chicle, derived from the sapodilla tree, as a way to quench thirst or fight hunger, according to “Chicle: The Chewing Gum of the Americas” by Jennifer P. Mathews. The Aztecs also used chicle and even had rules about its social acceptability. Only kids and single women were allowed to chew it in public, notes Mathews. Married women and widows could chew it privately to freshen their breath, while men could chew it in secret to clean their teeth.
When a person chews gum, it causes him to crave the sweet flavors gum provides. Since that person is craving the sugar he is obtaining through gum, he will not want to eat any fruit. Fruit is an essential food group that needs to be consumed daily. It offers many natural sweeteners that are actually good for the body as opposed to the artificial ones in gum. By the way, people say that artificial sweeteners are one of the top five foods to avoid. Since the body is now hooked on artificial sweeteners, it will crave junk food. If a person consumes carbs, he will crave carbs. It is an ongoing cycle that if not regulated daily will lead to obesity. Second, chewing gum can trigger Temporomandibular Joint dysfunction, or more commonly known as TMJ. TMJ is a very sharp pain affecting the jaws and muscles surrounding the jaws. It also causes very limited jaw movement and occasionally lock jaw. In conclusion, chewing gum is bad on jaws. Third, GI problems could develop. This mean chewing gum could affect your gastrointestinal organs. There are so many unhealthy substances that make up gum base. Imagine not only swallowing gum, put trying to digest the rubber tire based substance. Fourth, chewing gum will slowly rot the victim's teeth. With a person's teeth constantly rubbing against the artificial sweeteners, it is very bad on the teeth. Sugar leads to cavities. Gum is entirely
Fake sugar can cause cancer and deadly diseases. Aspartame is in almost every gum and mint and every year it gets harder and harder to find sugar free gum or mints. There is 6-8 milligrams of aspartame in one stick of gum. According to the article ´6 disturbing disturbing side effects of chewing gum” aspartame is metabolized inside your body into both wood alcohol (a poison) and formaldehyde (which is a carcinogen used as embalming fluid and is not eliminated from your body through the normal waste filtering done by your liver and kidneys). It's been linked to birth defects, cancers, brain tumors, and weight gain. ("6 Disturbing Side Effects of Chewing Gum." Mercola.com. Web. 25 Jan. 2017.). Sugar free is gum is being consumed by thousands of people every day that don't know the side affects of aspartame . Eating excessive amounts of fake sugar can lead to some things listed
Ancient Greeks chewed something called mastic gum for a long time. Mastic gum is from the resin contained in the bark of the mastic tree. There was also spruce gum which was from the resin in the bark of the spruce tree. Soo an alternative was made and soon superseded spruce gum. An Ohio dentist used rubber to create a gum product for jaw exercise and gum stimulation. “William F. Semple was honored for this work with the first patent to manufacture chewing gum in December 1869”(Wrigley, History of gum). “On average we chew almost 300 sticks of gum a year and with the variety gum available today it doesn't seem like that number will go down any time soon”(The History of Chewing
“The unfortunate thing about this world is that good habits are so much easier to give up than bad ones” (Somerset Maugham). Almost everyone has good and bad habits but the bad ones can lead to addictions. When it comes to tobacco addiction, it is a habit that leads to different diseases and causes death. Tobacco should be illegal.
Ban Junk Food Junk food. Is it the responsibility of schools to ban junk food and promote a healthy lifestyle for children of all ages between 6-18? Yes, yes it is. In my opinion, schools promoting a healthy lifestyle is as important as the children’s parents’ responsibility. Schools have as much impact in that department as children are fed during school hours.
Every year tobacco is responsible for over 480,000 deaths. That includes people who have died from secondhand smoke. When statistics like this exist it is hard to understand why tobacco is still legal. This number increases every year that passes and most people believe it isn’t shrinking anytime soon. Tobacco should be banned because it’s deadly to not only the users, it’s highly addictive, and the tobacco industry is corrupting information promoting its harmful product. Society shouldn’t have to deal with anymore premature deaths due to a lethal legal product. We should work towards getting this useless product banned everywhere.

One last very severe effect of smoking is teeth decay. The reason for teeth decay is tobacco products which damage your gum tissue by affecting the attachment of bone and soft tissue to your teeth. An example of the effect is receding gums. A receding gum line exposes the tooth roots and increases your risk of developing a sensitivity to hot and cold, or tooth decay in these unprotected areas. Additionally, smoking can also contribute to bad breath, stains in the teeth and a build-up of tartar on the teeth.
