Rebellion was present as well as treated in these 3 stories by the authors. The authors all took different actions to repel the unfairness of the laws against women and to take back what rightfully belongs to them. Their freedom & their rights. Women were taking a stand even by just wearing red socks, walking out without a man with them, even wearing makeup became acts of rebellion.
To begin with, the author in “Lolita” shows an idea of rebellion by simply not having a male companion with her to just leave her home. In lines 12-15 the author states, “You might notice that her gait and her gestures have changed. It is in her best interest not to be seen, not to be heard or noticed. She doesn’t walk upright, but bends her head towards the ground and doesn’t look at passerby.” This meaning by just walking out of her home she is disobeying the law. That is a sign of rebellion because she is going against the law to step foot out her house with no man by her side. In panel 8 the author, Marjane Satrapi states, “Showing your hair or putting on makeup logically became acts of rebellion.” Something as basic as that is technically considered abusing or going against the law. In panel 5 the author is stating, “I even remember spending an entire day at the committee because of a pair of red socks.” That was an idea of rebellion because although that is not tolerated, she still did it. Not being able to show not even your wrists, laughing or talking loudly was not to be forgiven. Any simple thing would have been a reason to arrest or convict a woman of a crime.
