In the Greece, people have different ways of being than other people all over the world. One example being hospitality, “We therefore humbly pray you to show us some hospitality and otherwise make us such presents as visitors may reasonably expect. May your excellency fear the wrath of heaven, for we are your suppliants, and Jove takes all respectable travelers under his protection, for he is the avenger of all suppliants and foreigners in distress” ( Odyssey Book 9). There you can see Ulysses asking for hospitality like it is mandatory or the gods will punish him for his rudeness. For the Greeks, it is very necessary to meet the person needs to their pleasure. Another example supporting this is the suitors for Penelope. With Ulysses gone the men did not respect the house and over stand there welcome. For example, “She flew weeping to his side, flung her arms about his neck, and kissed him…Then Ulysses in his turn melted and wept as he clasped his dear and faithful wife to his bosom, (Odyssey Book 23). You can see clearly here that Ulysses wife Penelope stay faithful and loyal to her husband for twenty years awaiting his return. With all the suitors and everyone thinking her husband died she did not remarry. Ulysses as well stayed faithful to his wife, “...how at last he reached the Ogygian island and the nymph Calypso, who kept him there in a cave, and fed him, and wanted him to marry her, in which case she intended making him immortal so that he should never grow old, but she could not persuade him to let her do so…” (Odyssey Book 23).
