Good and evil is a concept that is shown in everyday life. Even back in the 1800s, the idea of good and evil was there. It is not a new idea in the world. In Robert Louise Stevenson’s mystery novella, Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde, the Victorian Era influences Jekyll and Utterson’s actions. Jekyll’s behavior is influenced by the 18th century time period. Jekyll wants a double life. He wants to be bad and not be judged for it. In Jekyll’s letter to Utterson Jekyll has written, “i [stand] committed to a profound duplicity of life” (Stevenson 56). In the Victorian Era people are not allowed to be bad or they will be judged for it. People have to maintain an honorable status in order to gain respect. Utterson’s actions
