Throughout Tangerine by Edward Bloor, the protagonist Paul, has several flashbacks. His first flashback happens right before he moves to Florida. He remembers someone (most likely Erik) trying to beat him with a bat. In his next flashback, he remembers one of Erik’s friends from Huntsville teasing him for his poor vision. And in his last, he remembers the real reason why he almost went blind. He did not stare at a solar eclipse, he got sprayed in the eyes with spray paint by his brother and one of his friends from Huntsville. Things that all three flashbacks have show that Erik attacks only with at least one of his friend, they relate to Erik’s harassment on paul, and their parents never punished Erik. Of the given options of films to watch for the extra credit assignment, I chose to watch HBO’s documentary titled the Unchained Memories: Readings From the Slave Narratives, a production I thought was excellently put together. I was initially apprehensive of the film, thinking it would be extremely boring, but I rather found it to be quite the accessible medium of history both available and appealing to a broad audience including myself. I found the readings of the many slave’s interviews and firsthand accounts to be such a clever way to understand more about the culture of slavery in an uncanted light and it broadened my knowledge of what slavery entailed. The 2006 fictional novel, “Tangerine” written by Edward Bloor is about the mystery of Paul’s eyes and the secrets to unlocks the truth behind Paul’s vision. Edward Bloor uses Paul’s eyesight to show the understanding of the character's family and friends. It shows his viewpoint on things and how Paul sees his problems. Through the motif of vision Paul, the main character, grows his understanding on his friends, family, and himself.
During the novel, Erik does many different things that demonstrate he is possessed or insane. In Tangerine, erik orders his slave, Arthur, to hit Luis Cruz with his blackjack. The book states, “I said, ‘I’ve already been in the right place at the wrong time, you low life creeps. You pathetic losers. I was under the bleaches on Tuesday afternoon.’ I raised my finger like it was loaded, and I pointed it at Arthur. ‘I saw you kill Luis Cruz.’.” This definitely proves that Erik Fisher is a maniac! Whereas, Paul is sane and talks his problems out with words not with grim actions. An example from the novel of Paul being sane, is when he found out he was getting kicked off the Lake Windsor soccer team. CRAZILY, he freaked out a little he didn’t take it extreme. Tangerine says, “I knelt down on that sideline, took off my sports goggles, and started to cry.” This takes place after Coach Walski kicks Paul off the team because he visually handicapped. Although, Paul has little meltdowns he stays calm, unlike Erik who is insane and does truly crazy

He acknowledged the gap that was created between him and his parents as the penalty immigrants ought to pay to develop and grow into American culture. And he confessed that he got bewildered to see other Hispanic teachers and students determined to preserve their ethnicity and traditions by asking for such issues to be dealt with as departments of Chicano studies and minority literature classes. A lot of critics criticized him as a defector of his heritage, but there are a few who believed him to be a sober vote in opposition to the political intemperance of the 1960s and 1970s.
In The Awakening, Chopin sets up two characters main characters and a subsidiary female character to serve as foils to Edna. The main characters are Adele Ratignolle, "the bygone heroine of romance" (888), and Mademoiselle Reisz, the musician who devoted her life to music, rather than a man. Edna falls somewhere in between the two, but distinctly recoils with disgust from the type of life her friend Adele leads: "In short, Mrs. Pontellier was not a mother-woman." Adele Ratignolle and Mademoiselle Reisz, the two important female principle characters, provide the two different identities Edna associates with. Adele serves as the perfect "mother-woman" in The Awakening, being both married and pregnant, but Edna does not follow Adele's footsteps. For Edna, Adele appears unable to perceive herself as an individual human being. She possesses no sense of herself beyond her role as wife and mother, and therefore Adele exists only in relation to her family, not in relation to herself or the world. Edna desires individuality, and the identity of a mother-woman does not provide that. In contrast to Adele Ratignolle, Mademoiselle Reisz offers Edna an alternative to the role of being yet another mother-woman. Mademoiselle Reisz has in abundance the autonomy that Adele completely lacks. However, Reisz's life lacks love, while Adele abounds in it. Mademoiselle Reisz's loneliness makes clear that an adequate life cannot build altogether upon autonomy. Although she has a secure sense of her own individuality and autonomy, her life lacks love, friendship, or warmth. Later in the novel we are introduced to another character, her name is Mariequita. Mariequita is described as an exotic black-eyed Spanish girl, whom Edna looks upon with affectionate curiosity. Unlike the finely polished heroine, Mariequita walks on "broad and coarse" bare feet, which she does not "strive to hide". This strikes Edna with a refreshing sense of admiration. To her, the girl's soiled feet symbolize naked freedom, unconstrained by the apparel of civilization. Thus, Edna finds her rather beautiful. Mariequita is more like an unrefined version of Edna, that is, her instinctual self. At times, Mariequita ventures to express the thoughts that are secretly buried in Edna's unconscious.

He is a star kicker for the High School football team, and hopes to play in college and then professional ball. He jokes about a football teammate being killed by lightning.
The poem, “Remember”, by Joy Harjo illuminates the significance of different aspects in one’s life towards creating one’s own identity. Harjo, explains how everything in the world is connected in some way. She conveys how every person is different and has their own identities. However, she also portrays the similarities among people and how common characteristics of the world impact humans and their identities. Harjo describes the interconnectedness of different aspects of nature and one’s life in order to convey their significance in creating one’s identity.
Erik Erikson was the man who originated the term “Identity crisis”. Erikson thought that his work was an extension of Freud’s and that if Freud had been given the time, then he would have come up with the same psychoanalysis theories that Erikson did. The major life developments of Erik Erikson that influenced his personality include things such as not having his father around from birth and thinking that his mother’s husband was his biological father and then finding out that the man was not his father, which caused confusion for Erikson. This is what prompted him to be interested in identity. When he entered school and the community, he was not sure how he fit in so he decided to study the aspects of identity. Moving forward, the literary device, flashback, is a great way to create an engrossing story. Flashback allows a reader to look back on past events or even find out secrets about a character that were previously unknown. Flashback is used in The Lost Hero in a way that a reader never forgets the past of a character. Pages 426-427 consist of Piper recollecting the time with Jason on the roof. This flashback showed when Piper had her first kiss with Jason. This event was important to understand because it showed how strongly she still felt for him despite all she was hearing on her memories being fake.
Memory of Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway. Clarissa Dalloway and Peter Walsh are defined by their memories. Virginia Woolf creates their characters through the memories they share, and indeed fabricates their very identities from these mutual experiences. Mrs. Dalloway creates a unique tapestry of time and memory, interweaving past and present, memory and dreams. The past is the key to the future, and indeed for these two characters the past creates the future, shaping them into the people they are on the June day described by Woolf.
Erikson’s theory has a total of eight different stages. I believe Erikson had a great idea and was correct in his theory and thoughts. His stages and repercussions of each stage can be evident in my life as well as others in my life. Erikson’s first stage is about trust and mistrust in the first year of life. In my first year of life my family was very present. There does not go a week where my family does not recount about that first year and different silly or happy stories, I do not know of first hand, but can tell you without hesitation. Being that I was the first child of my parents, so as a result my parents dedicated every day to me and to support us. On my mother 's side I was the first grandchild to be born. Erik Erikson was an American psychologist famous for his theory of psychosocial development. Erikson postulated that psychological and social factors played an enormous role in human development. The psychosocial theory brakes down human development into eight interdependent stages, with each stage having specific culminating goals and a pair of crises (Woolfolk, 2013, p. 99). The failure to achieve the goals of one stage could hinder the successful completion of subsequent stages.
Also as I was a toddler (play age), if I did a mistake my parents wouldn’t shame me about my mistakes, but they would do the right thing by showing me how to do it right, which promotes autonomy, which it would also help me to make the right decision. When I first started to go to school (school age), I was raised to be a hard worker, to work with industry, meaning that success doesn’t work with hard work, and that’s a method I use till now. And this where it gets harder for me, my adolescence years. In these year people find out who they are in life, to be honest I’m 19 years old and I still don’t know where I’m going in my life, I really don’t know what is the cause of this, I don’t like to blame people. Hopefully journey in college helps find where I belong at. I might be curious, confident in my choices, and a hard worker, but I’m still on the journey of finding myself, and that’s how I relate to Erik’s identity formation.
