“Death is the only pure, beautiful conclusion of a great passion” (David Herbert Lawrence). Coretta Scott King was an inspiring person to women of all ages and races. However her death had an impact on everyone, she was seen as an idol, more importantly as a leader. Malcom X’s daughter Attallah Shabazz who is also Mrs. King’s most pride supporter addresses her remarks in her eulogy and engages the people at the funeral service for Mrs. King on the sorrowful day of February 7th, 2006 in Atlanta, Georgia. Since 1914, Canadian Human Rights laws have had a positive impact on helping to shape Canadian identity as one that is welcoming to various minority groups. Being a Canadian citizen provides you with the freedoms to travel, and settle in Canada at your own will and desire. Also, the freedom to express your sexual orientation is welcomed and well supported in many communities. Modern discrimination against categorizing human beings is very slim and everyone of all ethnic or cultural backgrounds are welcome with respect and good intentions. Canada is an extremely welcoming and protective place, in which nearly everything is done to promote equality, and a safe country.
The Day of Mourning Protest, held in Sydney’s Australian Hall on the 26th of January, 1938, was an event organised by the Aborigines Progressive Organisation (APO) in a call for Aboriginal civil rights. It was held on the symbolic sesquicentenary of the British landing at Sydney Cove, as the day represented 150 years of Aboriginal suffering under the Whitemen. All “Aborigines and Persons of Aboriginal Blood” were invited to attend (APO, 1938 in BGGS, 2017, pg. 23).
"If you're out there, people never forget you. That is one of the things I believe in today, never being forgotten. I would like to be remembered as a person that loved people and wanted to be loved by them''. King has wrought a unique style of blues often imitated, but never duplicated.
In 1955, and the years surrounding, many events took place during the Civil Rights Movement. Rosa Parks was one of few people who undertook courageous acts to make a difference in history. Her legacy lives on to this day in literature because of authors such as Douglas Brinkley. His book, Rosa Parks, describes her life and shows her accomplishments. Brinkley shows how Rosa Parks is a prime example of inspiration to people in his book, and is evidenced by his attitude in the excerpt, his choice of detail, and his textual reference.

Throughout the course of history, there have been many civil wars. In those civil wars, many persons fought and died in battles to defend their beliefs. In the aftermath of a major battle, a people’s morale is as shattered and broken as the bodies of those that were slain. Following the battle, a funeral is conducted in remembrance of the deceased. At these funerals a funeral oration is usually given by a well-known domestic public figure, such as when Abraham Lincoln gave his “Gettysburg Address” in 1863 AD and when Pericles gave his funeral oration to Athens in 431 BC. These speeches were made not only to put to rest the souls of the dead and the grief of those who knew them, but to give those people hope that their friends and loved ones did not die in vain and to remind them why their civil war was being fought.
In Black Hawk's Surrender Speech of 1832 the Native American Indian, speaks of his defeat to the white men and final farewell. Over thousands of people attended the funeral and there were thousands in the streets wanting to attend. Even though a few of Malcolm's beliefs were misunderstood throughout the years, some of his beliefs are still followed today. In these beliefs, it can be found that he was not driven by hate but by love. He spoke of "violence only in name of peace." He was a gentle and loving father. He wanted to free his people and all oppressed people everywhere. He did this by giving them the courage to stand up and fight for what was theirs. Malcolm X's voice may have been silenced by his death but his ideas, beliefs and teachings live on.
The dominant culture perceived the Black Panther Party to be a threat, prevented their success whenever possible, and greatly contributed to their ultimate demise. In 1968 FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover proclaimed: “The Black Panther Party is the single greatest threat to the internal security of the United States” (156). The Party’s founder, Huey Newton, came to represent “the symbol of change for Americans, (by) questioning everything scared to the American way of life” (237).
Fred Hampton was a high school student and a promising leader when he joined the Black Panther Party at the age of 19. His status as a leader grew very quickly.
The Black Panther Party is an African-American revolutionary organization which emerged from the 1960s. Campaigning for equal rights amongst African-Americans within the United States, The Black Panther Party, (originally entitled The Black Panther Party For Self-Defense), sought the termination of the centuries worth of oppression and inequality that continued to persist amongst African-Americans which included social, economic and political suppression. Founded by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale, The Black Panther Party would not only play a key role in the Black Power element of the Civil Rights Movement, but because of its revolutionary stance and tactics that were not only opposed to but acted upon against the unjust system of government under which Blacks lived, the Black Panther Party would later be deemed by then Federal Bureau of Investigation director J. Edgar Hoover as the "greatest threat to the internal security of the United States" (Jones, 366).
In her eulogy for Coretta Scott King, Maya Angelou uses figurative language and repetition to compel the audience to follow King’s example of peaceful yet strong advocacy of human rights.
Throughout his tribute, Al Sharpton managed to persuade and remind us why Michael was such an influential person to the lives of many. At the same time he managed to give us an amazing eulogy. He was able to honor the memory of Michael by giving all of us the gifts of sharing, of fondly remembering, and of healing. Because he had so much sincerity in his voice, it let us know he was trying to make a difference and help people move forward. This eulogy did just that.
