Sociologist C. Wright Mills used the concept of sociological imagination as an ability to “think yourself away from the familiar routines of everyday life”and look at them from an entirely new perspective. An example of a sociological imagination is when like a girl turns anorexic because she is depressed and doesn't like her body. People around her may think this is a her problem but don't realize that there are so many girls around that are going through the same thing. If only some girls were depressed and anorexic then obviously we would see it as a personal problem but since many girls go through this then we see it as a big issue in our society.
The person I picked to interview is my friends grandpa. I picked to interview him because I have never met him before so it was the perfect opportunity to finally met him. How I came to interview him was when my friend invited me to her house and her grandpa was there. I asked him nicely if I could interview him for my sociology class and he said that it was fine. His name is Lucio Hernandez and he is 67 years old. He was born Pespire, Choluteca, Honduras. He lived in a small house and was in poverty growing up. He had to drop out because he had to help to provide for his family in Honduras. When he came to CA he started working as a house painter. I asked him if he ever thought about going back to school to have a better career and he said that he did think about it but that it would have taken a lot of his time. Lucio’s religious affiliations is Evangelist, so he grew up in a very religious culture. While growing up he has always wanted to make a career out of his religion, so at the age of 22 he became the pastor of his church.
