Telephones have been around for more than a century, being the fact that the first telephone was created in 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell. During this time, this new form of technology was just used to communicate. In more modern times, telephones have evolved into mobile phones, more known as cell phones. Presently, cell phones have been able to send text messages, pictures, and videos. In relation to computers, cell phones have been able to access the internet by using WiFi or internet connectivity. Cell phones have evolved into more of a handheld computer. Cell phones like iPhones and androids have been able to do things people in the past would have never imagined like being able to video chat with someone thousands of miles away. Now that generations who have experienced all of these necessities, they are everwaiting for even more advanced technology. All in all, Past, present, future generations have had different expectations when it comes to communicating with people whether they be down the road or somewhere across the globe.
Many say that it was not Bell who created the device, but an Italian innovator, Antonio Meucci. Bell received a U.S. patent for creating the early telephone. By 1881, at least 49,000 telephones were in use. The design was a very generic and simple construction. To use it, you would talk through a barrel that carries on to a receiver. It had many uses during the time it was first created. For example; military leaders used it as a way to communicate and send orders from a long distance. More in general, everyday people used it as a way to communicate to friends or family that were a distance away. By 1900, there were 600,000 versions of Bell’s creation being used. Looking at the evolution of communication technology, it has changed drastically from the late 1800’s into the present and future automations. More than a century ago, the human race found a way to communicate to each other not only by sending letters, but by talking into a device that sends a message instantly to the reciever on the other line. Ever since, companies and manufacturers have been making improvements and new technology all thanks to the first creaters of the device. The person reading this is probably reading from a high tech computer or a smart phone! From the old fashioned telephone created by Alexander Graham Bell to smart phones, there are many more innovations to come.
