The short story “Everyday Use” was written by Alice Walker in 1973. The story of Everyday Use was told by the mother of two daughter known as Maggie and Dee. The mother of the two daughter was uneducated in was willing to go over and beyond for her girls. The mother did fund rise for her daughter Dee to go to college and experience things that her mother cannot do for herself. Dee was more pretty looking love to make a fashion statement, and very all about herself. On the other hand, Maggie was burned from the fire of the house and was not too much like Dee. Maggie and Dee was very different and the narrator knew that. Dee was so oppressed by her heritage that when she left for college and came back she had change her name in all. The narrator and the other daughter was amazed by what Dee did that they really could not bear it. Dee mainly wanted to make her mother and sister feel bad because, she had become more than them. Maggie is a person of purity and emotional needs, meaning she needs a little bit of attention. You can tell that Maggie was severely burned when she was child, feels ugly, and hide her generous nature because of it. Maggie stayed protected by her mother and is seen to be very untouchable through her mother. Maggie relationship with Dee is like oil and water they truly don’t mix. Maggie has always felted that Dee life was easy and Maggie was very frustrated by it. Maggie had took both the responsibility of Dee in put them on her load even though she never showed it. Until Dee thought she was going get the quilts that Maggie was working so hard to own. Maggie throw different things to show her love for the quits.
