At Evans Elemntary School District, we were about to perform an outstanding play. Our whole 4th grade class participating in this play, however some individuals had more important parts. This play was going to take place at the last week of school and we started to prepare for this in December. The play was about a 4th grade class that learn by singing. The teacher tought the classs all of the subjects by singing. The class was the main parts in the play and I was unfortunitly, not apart of the main cast. My role and many other students role was that we were the chorus for the class and sang along. We practiced many times and the play quickly approached us. Our music teacher directed the play and one of the teachers played the piano. The night
The performance ‘Chasing the Lollyman’ by Debase productions succeeded in using the Dramatic Languages to create a Dramatic Meaning that comments on a social and political issue. This, along with the effective manipulation of the dramatic conventions, has allowed Debase to successfully recognised the Epic Theatre style. Chasing the Lollyman is one man show starring one of Queensland's most dynamic and funny Indigenous performers, Mark Sheppard. He shares many stories, a celebration of urban Indigenous identity and takes a satirical look at the media and popular culture. Playing a variety of characters, Mark pokes fun at everything from Neighbours (what would it be like if a Murri family moved into Ramsey street) to polities. The dramatic meaning of the performance is if Australia wants to become one, we need to learn to accept each other for their differences.
David Elkind is a child psychologist and now teaches Child Development at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. He is an author of many different books about child development and even has written some children's books. The Power of Play was published in 2007. This book has been helping teachers and future teachers develop a better idea of the way children understand the world around them through play.
I got dressed like normal, and got a partner and started bumping the volleyball like yesterday. But what changed today was that we were going to the high school. When we got to the high school the same routine happened. Also today, some people got cut from the team. When they started calling people off I would hear a few names that sounded like Jalyn but were luckily not mine. After the list was over, the coach bursted out,” Everyone that was called please go to the side so the coaches can talk to you, “Then she softly whispered to us,” You guys have made it past the first set of cuts.” We all started cheering but was quickly got hushed down by the coach with her brief, yet informative hand gestures. When we got on the bus, the ones that made it sympathetically apologized to the people that got cut on the bus ride home but when we got back everyone that made it gathered in a circle and
This is a review for the play Our Town produced by Northern Stage Theater White River Junction, VT. Our Town is a playwright by Thornton Wilde. Wilder explores human traditions and the steadfastness of natural environment. The people, the individual human lives in Our Town transient, are influenced greatly by the rapid passage of time. The Stage Manager often notes that time seems to pass quickly for the people in the play. At one point, having not looked at his watch for a while, the Stage Manager misjudges the time, which demonstrates that sometimes even the timekeeper himself falls victim to the passage of time. The play also explores the importance of companionship and the stages of life. Plays can often show many characteristics of human
...bout me and why I was there not accepting it as a school project. Once I started observing them they created a negative view they saw me as rather an outcast who didn't fit in. They believe I belong to a rival group which only wanted to see their new leading play. They were hostile and would at time avoid me. As if I was their enemy. I felt awkward and lonely they didn't present the information I needed they didn't want to corporate. At first I didn't know how to deal with their lack of corporation until I participated in a practice I enter their comfort zone and I pointed out ideas in which they needed help. That was my first step yet they still didn’t have trust in me. Therefore, I played a long and would at times read their plays and gave them a live tone in order to have a longer conversation. I later on got closer to them and was allowed to sit in their table.
they are older and the play ends with Emily Webb’s death. Throughout the play there are also
First, I'm not surprised the children chose Beauty and the Beast, it's a classic. But they didn't have the knowledge of the number of roles the play actually has, that's your job to match the play to the number of students so that each child gets a chance to shine. So in my opinion, putting the choice on the kids is very irresponsible.
In the play, The Piano Lesson, music played an important role. The piano in the play represented the African American history and culture. The ghost of Sutter represented the pain and trauma that had been endured throughout the generations in the Charles family. Berniece did not play the piano because she associated it with pain and the bad things that happened to her family members. She did not want to accept the things that had happened in her family’s past. She thought that she could deny everything and act like it never happened. She believed if she continued to run from everything and everybody that the pain would go away. Berniece was burdened and haunted by the ghost of Sutter until she gave in and played the piano after all of those years. After playing the piano, Berniece was no longer burdened or haunted by the past. She was free from all of the denial. She escaped the pain through the music and reflecting on the carvings on the piano, which represented her heritage. Berniece’s brother, Boy Willie, told her “Berniece, if you and Maretha don’t keep playing on that piano… ain’t no telling… me and Sutter both liable to be back” (Wilson 108). By saying that, he meant that if she did not allow her daughter to continue playing the piano and learning about her culture that she would end up going through the same things that Berniece had gone through. Music has a huge impact on the African American culture in several ways and many things about the past can be learned through it.
Two things about this show immediately piqued my interest. First: Christopher Walken played the lead during the Broadway run of the play. I love Christopher Walken and, although UGA’s production of A Behanding in Spokane will obviously not star him, the fact that he was involved with it initially has endeared the play to me. Second: the show seems to be, from the brief descriptions I’ve read, delightfully twisted. According to Broadway.com, the play is about a man who is missing his left had, two con-artists who promise to sell him what they claim is that hand, and a racy, provocative hotel clerk. That extremely vague description only strengthened my interest in this show; I thoroughly enjoy darker, non “cookie-cutter” stories and can’t wait to learn how the man lost his hand and how all the characters fit together.
My senior year of softball was ending; following the end of the season nominations for homecoming court were due. Out of the four seniors my team nominated me allowing with Tyler Jackson to represent softball. Crossings Christian School has a tradition of a mock homecoming court showcase were a special handshake is performed. Tyler and I spent many hours practicing our handshake. In the handshake was a mock lightsaber battle, me standing on top of him as if he was a surfboard, leap frog, and a mock slap in the face for Tyler. While we performed this in front of the entire high school, I had accidentally slapped Tyler in the face. Towards the end of that day, the actually homecoming court presentation would be showcased. The event
Hearing that my work was “all wrong” in the presence of other students was the worst embarrassment I could imagine as a shy and overly sensitive teenager. I wanted to crawl under my desk and hide. I managed to fight back tears until my retreat to the lavatory at the end of the period. Any confidence I had in my writing died that day. From that moment on my dreams of being a writer were severely compromised. Ms. B had taken advantage of her position of power over my writing. Whether this was intentional on her part or just a case of insensitivity or carelessness has no bear...
I arrived late and everyone was staring at me with smirks on their faces. I was so embarrassed. I wanted to run out of the class, but with my chin up high, I walked straight to an empty seat. All my classmates started giggling after I had sat. I thought they had played a cruel prank on me! My band director, Mr. Gonzalez, called me to the front of the room and told me to go into the instrument room and pick up a trumpet. Since I had absolutely no idea what was going on, I followed his instructions and went straight to the room and picked up a gold, rusty Jean Baptiste trumpet. I had absolutely no idea how to read music, and knew very little about playing trumpet. The little I knew was from the times I would grab my sister, Katerina’s, trumpet and make funny fart noises into it while clicking the buttons one by one therefore changing the sound of the trumpet. I always enjoyed playing her trumpet, but thought that band was for
I would go to class not talk to anybody and just to my school work and go home. Overtime something happened I was a straight A student and most of the teachers were noticing that and I was receiving certificates and award every month. I was never a teacher’s pet I just simply did my work but I guess five girls in my classroom simply did not understand that. It started very small step by step first it was the name calling or talking under their breath and whispering things to each other. After that the shoving, pushing started, and throwing my work on the floor. Lastly the physical contact was getting out of hand to the point where these five girls will pull my hair while going down the stairs or putting their feet in the way so that I would fall. They started instigating me into punching one of them so that they could all jump me and say that I started everything. However, the worst day I have ever had been the day that they all decided to push me down the stairs and ever since that day I broke down. I started missing school because I was too afraid to go, my mom event went to confront the situation and nothing was done. Those five girls were the reason
There wasn’t any particular scene on stage that made me doubt the integrative work of the director since all the staging work such as lighting, design, costumes and performance were well coordinated and blended for a very good production. The lights were well positioned with well fitted costumes and a very ideal scene to match. There wasn’t much change of scenes in the play except for some movement of tables and chairs. There was an entrance and exit for the performers which made their movements uninterrupted. There was a loud sound of a bell when school was over while the lights were dimmed whenever there was a change of scene. The pace of the production was very smooth since one scene followed the other without delay and most likely because most of the performers wore the same costume; especially all eight students wore the same costume for the entire
First my attitude had to changed for this class. When this happened I started taking extra time in my assignments and in my reading. This happen when I turned my paper in a different format and my teacher could not open it. She gave me a bad grade. Then I question why I had got a bad grade because according to my believes I had done a good job on the essay. She then told me because I did not send it to her properly and she could not open it. So I resend it and instead of checking to make sure she could open it. I forgot to check. Two weeks later I check my email and I saw a message form my teacher saying it was not acceptable that she had given me time to turn it in and I had not. That incident made me think about how much time I was putting into my classes. So I managed to make it into a PDF document and send it to her but by that time I had already made my grade drop. That incident had the most impact on me and in all my classes, especially in my English class. It told me that I need to check
