OMG!!, I can’t believe I am going to get to do the pageant again. The first time I did a pageant it was the best thing I had ever experienced, and to get to do it again was a dream come true. This year I knew what to expect, henceforth I knew what to do. The most important thing was to fundraise and practice, because if you don’t fundraise to get money you can’t go to the pageant, and if you don’t practice it’s hard to win. When I did fundraising, I sold the greatest strawberry and red velvet cupcakes, completed a few scratch-off cards, and I can’t even begin to count the amount of donations I received from family, friends and even some strangers. Many people think about pageants and immediately assume it’s all about makeup, fake hair, fake teeth, fake eyelashes, but that is just a perception. My philosophy is you should show your true self, your personality, and who you are, not who they want you to be, so I did a natural pageant. When I finally sent in my application I was ecstatic, it was one of the happiest times ever!!! …show more content…
I got to sleep in my bed and we had to get up early to make it on time, but it was worth it. When we arrived on the first day we had orientation, and I was excited to be there, excited to compete, moreover I found out we were going to have a crazy hair party. When I went to crazy hair day I saw some of my friends, my best friend was Easton. She was the current Miss Alabama and we were inseparable. She was the first person I met and I still now her today. We had lots of fun events, we had a pajama party, and a dance party. Me and my friend had a blast and I will never forget those
Recent female contestants they will understand the dangers of pageants and become more aware of what they need to do to protect themselves. Some will not care and believe it will not happen to them, that they are the one who can survive in the game. Economic classes are spoken to; upper class all they see is the glitter and trophies so they go to the extreme to go for the prizes of thousands of dollars and don’t care about what they need to do in order to get it. “Parents, many of whom have only modest incomes, pay for high-glitz coaches ($50 to $100 an hour), high-glitz photographers ($300 per session, with $150 for retouching), high-glitz wig makers ($150 to $175 a pop), and high-glitz spray tanners ($25 per pageant)”(Hollandsworth). Middle class they don’t see it as you have to have money to do it they can do just as good as those who have lots of money and do it better. Fans who support the pageant will consider how they perceive the girl as the model and perform their talents on
The amount of money spent on these pageants have caused many families to go into debt, lose homes, or even divorcee because of the overwhelming cost required in some pageants. Parents put way too much into pageants when it comes to expenses. All of the fancy cars and make-up artists are not needed for kids especially if parents cannot afford it. Parents say it is all about the kids but most of the time it is to make them happy. If only pageant parents knew how they are teaching their kids about a materialistic life style. Kids should know more than fancy cars and clothes.
At the Miss California, USA seminar we were directed in how to apply makeup the correct way for stage lighting and also we had a number of evening gowns modeled so that we could know what is acceptable. We also had numerous swimsuits modeled for us by other delegates who I will be competing with. The person in charge of the USA pageant organization is Carolee Munger from San Luis Obispo, CA. She taught us how to present ourselves in the presence of our judges and also how to reach for our highest goals. The seminar was eight and a half hours long. It included learning, speaking skills, self confidence, and personal rights as an individual. We also had the privilege of listening to a well known psychologist speak to us about pageantry and how important it is know yourself and the goals you would like to achieve in life. Questions such as, "Where do you see yourself in five years?" have definitely given a new thought to what I would like to do for the rest of my life. I learned how to act self confident even in situations where you don't feel comfortable. I also learned that knowing how to make a grand entrance instead of a grand exit will give you a special presence.
Although the pageant system can be a place to sprout new relationships, for many it does nothing but tear them down. Every parent wants their child to avoid the mistakes they, as parents, had made earlier in life in order to be the best they can be. Many pageant parents take this to the next level and use the child to live life again and pursue every opportunity they could have possibly missed as they were growing up. How is a child supposed to live their own life if they're forced to be a pawn in their parents game? Not only do pageants affect the parent-child relationship, it also affects the way children choose friends for the rest of their life. Heidi Gerkin, a former pageant star with titles such as America's Junior Miss, says that she has been more comfortable with having more male friends because of her previous experiences with deceiving friendships in the pageant systems. She says "Even now, whenever I meet somebody, I question whether they really like me" (Goode). The relationship the pageant systems affects the most is the relationship with oneself. It is very rare for a girl to claim she has never felt self-conscious, especially ...
We got to do an obstacle course. We also had a water slide and snow cones. My favorite part about last years was the dodge ball tournament. For this year I am hoping we can get two water slides. It was fun with one, but it would be even better with two.
Where do I start? How do I begin a farewell when I still can't believe you're gone? How do I say goodbye to a part of my soul?
The financial burden that pageants bring can really put an abundance of stress on the parents. After the shocking death of Ramsey, the High-Glitz portion of the pageant world surprisingly skyrocketed. Today it is now worth over $5 billion (Blue). With prices of everything today rising, this is not surprising news. The prices of new dresses, shoes, makeup, hair, spray tans, and even flippers (false teeth for young people to cover their always changing mouths) can really add up, not to mention the costs of pageants coaches to teach the kids the perfect way to walk and wave (Woolf 3). Regulars like Alana Thompson (aka Honey...
To the contestants they learn that it is nothing shy of normal to dress and look like a Barbie in this case. To them everyone looks and acts the same; the parents are in the crowd are in the background performing the contestants routine to make sure it is on point. As the contestants behind stage are having their hair done, lipstick applied and mascara touched up. These girls are blinded to the outside world and what children there age are doing. These contestants are girls who should be at home playing in the neighborhood with their friends, or playing with Barbie dolls; not portraying the look of a Barbie doll walking out onto the stage and being judged for their routine. With these pageants, these contestants should be able to stand out as who they really are, showing off their unique personalities and beauty. Pageants today are nothing but competitive sports when really it should be a lighthearted event where people are able to display their talents. Correcting this could be a step in helping these little girls step foot in the right direction and not have to grow up dealing with negativity based on how they looked against how they once portrayed themselves to look. These girls have the ability to be role models therefore they should be displaying the right message to their viewers, helping little girls just like them grow in a positive
I would like to thank you all for coming to Arlyn's funeral. I am truly touched that you care enough to show your support for us and your respect for Arlyn this way.
American’s unneeded celebration of beauty in the pageantry world is digging a hole for the country and has been the contributing factor to the downward spiral we are presently in. The system of this pageant needs to change tremendously in order for it to become a beneficial contest in the future. Beauty pageants to...
Are you a girl with dreams who wants to prepare for the future? Who wants to be successful in life and wants to be confident? As a young girl, the National American Miss pageant system helped me practice lifelong skills and represent my community. NAM is a natural pageant, which means they want to find the inner beauty in their contestants. In fact, you are judged on these areas of competition; Formal Wear, Personal Introduction, Interview, and Community Service.
...le do thing that they do is a good way to prepare for such a career.” In the end, pageants have their good ways and their bad ways. Some parents put their kids in pageants to prove that they are better than others, but other parents do it for their kids to make lifelong friends. (Cromie, 2000)
...nd do not take it farther than they have. (Palmero). Winners of pageants go on a year long parade, showing of the title they so proudly won, along the way they show the confidence, recognition and communication skills they gained. The purpose of beauty pageants is to find ones personality, their own strengths and weakness as a person, gain confidence and raise their self-esteem, and prove to people that it is not impossible to have beauty and brains.
" Money, ratings and attention fuel the pageant/dance media machine, with parents and adults reaping the benefits. Purpose of Child Beauty Pageants For these young pageant girls, brains before beauty is not the case. Real-world priorities such as schooling, family, and friends are trumped by tiaras, makeup, and evening gowns. More value is often placed on being beautiful in the eyes of the judges, than on each girl’s individuality.
A million thoughts ran through my head when they called my name. I can remember thinking ‘Me? Is that my name? Did they call my name? I don’t believe it. I can’t believe it!’ I looked out into the audience and saw the most proud smile I’ve ever seen resting on my grandma’s face. The day I won my first pageant is one I will always remember.
