Euclid and Archimedes are two of the most important scientists and mathematicians of all time. Their achievements and discoveries play a pivotal role in today’s mathematics and sciences. A lot of the very basic principles and core subjects of mathematics, physics, engineering, inventing, and astronomy came from the innovations, inventions, and discoveries that were made by both Euclid and Archimedes.
Euclid, who lived from about 330 B.C.E. to 260 B.C.E., is often referred to as the Father of Geometry. Very little is known about his life or exact place of birth, other than the fact that he taught mathematics at the Alexandria library in Alexandria, Egypt during the reign of Ptolemy I. He also wrote many books based on mathematical knowledge, such as Elements, which is regarded as one of the greatest mathematical/geometrical encyclopedias of all time, only being outsold by the Bible.
Euclid also came up with a number of axioms and proofs, which he called “postulates.” Some of these postulates relate to all sciences, while other postulates relate only to geometry. An example of a Euclidean postulate that relates to all sciences is “The whole is greater than the part.” An example of a Euclidean postulate relating only to geometry is “You can draw a straight line between any two points.” Although these postulates seem extremely simple and obvious to us, Euclid was the first person to state them, as well as prove them to be true without question. These simple postulates really help with more complicated math and sciences, such as advanced geometry. For example, when doing advanced geometry involving a lot of lines and shapes, it is extremely helpful to know for sure that any single line can never contain more than one parallel line.

...st important scientists in history. It is said that they both shaped the sciences and mathematics that we use and study today. Euclid’s postulates and Archimedes’ calculus are both important fundamentals and tools in mathematics, while discoveries, such Archimedes’ method of using water to measure the volume of an irregularly shaped object, helped shaped all of today’s physics and scientific principles. It is for these reasons that they are remembered for their contributions to the world of mathematics and sciences today, and will continue to be remembered for years to come.
