The identification of specific social work values, ethical principals, and standards are imperative. The social worker’s personal values need to align with those of the social work profession and identify challenge during the field practicum if they do not. Firstly, the social worker’s primary goal is to service her clients in need and address social problems (National Association of Social Workers (NASW), 2015). The social worker needs to be self-aware of any emotional triggers and biases since they can impede her from accomplishing her primary goal to service her clients. When working with families in the Early Head Start, the social worker will provide educational tools for parents to help their children reach the developmental stages. However, the social worker has to respect these families and their decision to not adopt some of the skills. Self-determination is one of the most important values of the social work profession, and the social worker has to respect their decision. Thirdly, the social worker adopts the importance of human relationships and integrity (NASW, 2018). In order for the Early Head Start program to be successful and make a positive change in the lives of many families, they build relationships with the families. The social worker needs to be trustworthy and act responsibly to build relationships with her clients. These relationships are the bridge to pass along the educational skills. Fourthly, The social worker posses the training, social diversity and cultural competence to better serve her clients (NASW, 2018). The social worker knowledge in diversity and cultural practices will ensure the families would trust her and would feel respected and understood; therefore, they would be open to the parenting skills, human behavior, and developmental stages the social worker would provide to enhance their quality of life and their children’s. The first ethical standard I would like to discuss is that a social worker having cultural competence and social (NASW, 1999). A social worker must possess the knowledge of values, customs, tradition and history just to name a few in order to have success with clients that may identify as something other than their own identity. Culture directs impacts human behavior. Within this case study, due to Mrs. Sanchez’s culture, she struggled to assimilate with the American culture and this included her being able to learn the English language. Ethical Issues in Social Work I will provide practical help for new social workers to help them understand and deal with ethical issues and dilemmas which they will face. There are many ethical issues which are important to social work, but I feel that these are all covered by the care value base. The care value base Was devised by the care sector consortium in 1992, this was so that the workers in health and social care had a common set of values and principles which they would all adhere to. It is important because for the first time the social care sector had a clear set of guidelines from which ethical judgements could be made. The care value base is divided into 5 elements - The care value base covers - Equality and Diversity - Rights and responsibilities - Confidentiality - Promoting anti Discrimination - Effective communication Equality and Diversity Carers must value diversity themselves before they can effectively care for the different races, religions and differently abled people they will come across in their caring profession.

The following paper aims to discuss and analyze the way in which my personal values intersect with the values I hold as most important within the profession of social work. It would stand to reason that these values would stand on common ground; however, there are places where my personal and professional values diverge. These conflicts may prove to be problematic within my chosen career unless I find a way to prioritize my values, or find ways for them to work harmoniously with each other.
Values are described as set of rules and guides in the right and wrong decisions we make. Values facilitates the decisions in recognising what is worthy and valuable, with this, weighs out the important and less important, when there is a conflict of values. Ethics is set of moral principles of values, and these contribute to individuals and what groups live by. Core values in social work practice are the code of ethics informing our understanding of the difference and diversity. Social work profession is evaluated by a whole set of guidelines, measures put in place by regulatory body, giving the movement to put in place new governmental laws and guides within this field.

In practice situations ethical considerations may seem hard and general to explicit in other times. This part of ethical consideration involves a variety of practice issues. These can be legal or ethical and may include, multiple relationships, refresher training up dating information in the field and committing to codes of behaviour especially in regard with confidentiality. When conducting an interview in social work practice we should identify the process of planning and intervention. My life experiences, accomplishments, and more importantly my hardships have helped me come to the realization of my personal values. Learning about the social work core values was another indicator for me that social work was the right profession for me. The social work core values of service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence are all values that are very similar if not identical to my own personal values. Many of the social work core values encompass many of my own personal values. For example, the core value of social justice encompasses my personal values of equality and helping the less fortunate.
One of the most important values I have learned in this course were these specific core values in social work. Social work seeks to provide service and have social justice. Prior to having the class of Professional Values and Ethics, I assumed I understood the basic concepts of what defines a professional who has competence of values and ethics. Nevertheless, by being enrolled in this course, I have gained great knowledge of which professional values and ethical principles must be held by a social worker, which I did not know before. Progressively in this class, by learning professional values and ethics, my motivation to succeed as an upcoming social worker has gotten stronger.
