Looking at the whole scale of child abuse globally is important, but the greatest impacts come from within each community the abuse is happening in.. Even in small communities like that of Marietta,GA, there are still reported cases of child abuse and teachers must know how to effectively deal with those situations while still holding an ethical standard. Every teacher needs to know the warning signs of abuse so that they can properly report it when discovered. Teachers have an ethical responsibility to provide children with the opportunity to obtain the best education possible. Although it may not be explicitly stated in the code of ethics, teachers have a moral obligation to provide children with a learning environment in which they feel …show more content…
With the amount of responsibilities and moral duties a teacher has for his or her students, the issue will only become more and more prevalent. Teacher standards and the qualifications to be a teacher have become more complex over the years because teachers have such a high value to children throughout any number of years. Then adding in the situation of abuse a teacher must be fully prepared and knowledgeable enough on the subject to be able to correctly handle it as to not make the child go through any more trauma than has already happened. There are more and more abuse cases each year, and with so many children going in and out of schools it is a necessity that teachers know all the warning signs and behavior to help with the problem as soon as possible. Abuse is not confined to one specific area, it has a range of different forces but and ethically and moral teacher will not let that affect the way in which they treat a child. A teacher should treat all of his or her students with the utmost respect and not create any disturbances in the classroom environment by treating students to a different standard than the rest. Many children depend on teachers to help guide them and start a successful path for their future, but by creating a frenzied learning environment it is very hard for students to get the learning needed. No child is perfect and teachers especially should understand that, adding in any sort of …show more content…
Through this paper I’ve explored many concepts that go into early childhood. This research has helped me grow into how I would know consider ethical issues regarding children.Although after taking the pathway classes that did give me a great base knowledge, actually going out and finding real issues myself helped me greatly. There are multiples facts I never would have thought to consider with children, because so many people are involved in the processes that help them throughout their school lives. Ethical dilemmas involving children from what I had found can be very tricky but through doing this paper , my mindset has changed and my growth has helped me acknowledge all of those
A teacher’s most important duty is to protect the students they are in charge of. This duty includes both reasonably protecting students from harm and, when a student is harmed, reporting it to the proper authorities (Gooden, Eckes, Mead, McNeal, & Torres, 2013, pp. 103-109). There have been many court cases that reiterate this duty of school staff. One such case is Frugis v. Bracigliano (2003) where many staff at a school failed in their duty to protect students and allowed abuse to continue for years.
The study of children and their development is a new interdisciplinary field unifying research from sociology, anthropology, development psychology, law, and healthcare. Childhood studies emerged from the universal need to understand children’s development, their susceptibility to external factors, and what it means to be a child from the child 's perspective. Children differ depending on many factors, such as place, time, social status, religion, and tradition, and each of these aspects
Child abuse is a serious crime, that if violated can come with many consequences, and rules. Reporting child abuse is a mandatory law enacted in 1978 (but amended many times) stating that people must report child abuse immediately1. This law was created to identify children that are victims of child abuse. Relating to the law the Department of Human Services has responsibility to access and investigate suspected child abuse. "Each year Department of Human Services investigators conduct 20,000 investigations involving 30,000 children (in the state of California).2" There are a lot of cases reported each year, involving innocent children, abused by their parents. Although there are thousands of cases reported each year, thousands go unreported. "Child abuse has serious consequences which may remain as indelible pain throughout the victims lifetime3" Child abuse can have permanent negative affects on the child, permanent affects that the child will never forget. The abuse can also bring a better side to the child, making the child wanting to be more independent. Child abuse is very common, and can affect any child of any race, color or religion.
“Young children are still developing the social understanding and the ability to make intelligent, ethical decisions, they are developing autonomy (Jean Piaget 1936-1960)
Child Abuse is behavior by and adult that harms a child’s physical, mental, or emotional health and development. Some types of child abuse are neglect, and physical abuse. An example of neglect would be medical neglect. This is where the child does not get the proper medical attention needed. Some examples of physical abuse would be sexual and physiological.
Child abuse has been throughout the United States from the early 1870s up to this day. The question is what can we do as a whole to prevent it from continuing. We have thought of organizations to programs to speaking out of what has developed through time and seen remarkable results. "While some children die of neglect and abuse, most victims survive with psychic scars that stay with them throughout their lives." (Grapes). Ask yourself, are you the one with courage willing to speak up against such a harsh state or will you stand back and not strive for what is the righteous choice.
From the perspective I have at this stage in my journey in the early childhood education field, I would like to share what I have come to value and believe in regards to early learning and care by looking at my philosophy statement. To begin we will look at the statement and highlight three key features and find out why they are important to me, then we will see what they will look like in my practice, and lastly we will examine these ideas closely by looking at where they originated. By taking an in-depth look at my philosophy statement we will better understand the motivation behind my practice which I hope to continue to refine and refresh as I gain more knowledge and experience.
Since the beginning of time, children have be an integral part of our world. They act as the pillars of our society, knowing that the future of the world’s society will one day be in their hands. The rights of children have always been minute compared to the rights that adults have. For many centuries, people failed to recognize that children could fall victim to the abuse of an adults, just like adults can. During the 19th and 20th century, the fight again child labor was in the limelight, but rarely did people think that kids could be victims of physically or sexual abused. As time progressed, the criminal justice system began to identify that children needed to be protected from being a victim of physical and sexual abuse. Today, the court systems have distinctly identified what child abuse is and measure in place in an attempt to identify, prevent and treat abused children. Special teams are established for the sole purpose of investigating these crimes, because working with children demand a different protocol than adults. Interview children demands a special attention, because they are subjected to more trauma than an adult would, due to their developing mind.
In today’s society we are dealing with many cases of child abuse every year. Daily there's a child report case and they don’t all get reported. People toward the subject of reporting abuse comes in different point of views. The first point of view, people feel like we should have the responsibility to report any child abuse. The other point of view, people shouldn’t be held accountable to report child abuse because it’s not in their right to do so.
Teaching kids to treat others with respect no matter the differences is great but not teaching children that they can do whatever they want. This is one of the problems that has risen in children's books. The teachings of these books do not tell kids to obey or to respect, instead they teach that children can make their own decisions. This essay shows that all of children's programs and materials are made with the intent on educating and socializing a child at some level. People need to be aware of what they are giving to their children and make sure that it lines up with the teachings they want for their touchline.
A lot of the parents were unaware of the code of ethics. According to Oliveria (2016), one parent “Dennis O’Brien, who has three kids in the Bethel school system, said he was not familiar with the policy. Although he doesn’t blame the district for what happened, he wishes there was better communication about teacher ethics.” I believe O’Brien is right. He should not blame the district for what happen and there should be better communication about teacher ethics. I do not feel like teacher ethics is communicated enough between schools and parents. According to Code of Ethics for Educators (1994-2016), “The professional educator accepts personal responsibility for teaching students character qualities that will help them evaluate the consequences of and accept the responsibility for their actions and choices. We strongly affirm parents as the primary moral educators of their children.” The code of ethics should be communicated more with the parents in this day in age. Parents are sometimes unaware of the regulations teachers have to follow. If teachers expressed this to the parents, this incident could have been avoided. The parents of Bethel elementary were allowing their children to go home with the now convicted sex offender, Mr. Brian
Every year more than 3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving more than 6 million children. Very few people are aware of the severeness of child abuse. While some people choose to ignore it, many people are oblivious to the fact that is even exists. Unfortunately, because very few people know about the severity of the problem or do not know how to stop it, the cycle of violence will continue for generations to come. It is detrimental that the cycle stops and abused children do not grow up to be abusers. Many children are afraid to ask for help, they feel they will be hurt again or punished. It is so very important that children know it is necessary and right to seek help. Unfortunately, 90% of children abused are under the age of 12. That means that most of them are not even out of elementary school. The addition of child abuse education classes in elementary schools would provide knowledgeable information to every child about dealing with child abuse. Education is a very key part to preventing the spread of violence.
Introduction The case study is about a child s personal, social and emotional development .I am going to lay them out in three areas all linked together. This assignment will focus on one child in my setting. Kiddies den is a Montessori school and crèche in county Cavan. It operates Monday to Friday 8 to 6, and caters for up to 40 children on a daily basis. I`m the manager and owner of kiddies den .I sought approval from the child`s parent to do the case study, by writing a letter in which I will get the mother to sign and put into my appendix. I will also include my child protection, confidentially,
My son has been developmentally delayed since his birth in 2011. At age 3 we arranged to meet at the school to discuss options. The ESE department conducted a few tests this was difficult because he was non-verbal. Within a week, my husband and I sat down with a speech pathologist, two PreK teachers, and the ESE department director. This was the first time we were introduced to the Public Law 94-142 and the IDEA act that amended it to include children like my son. He was later officially diagnosed with Autism.
In the beginning of the semester, my ideas about child abuse and neglect were very plain and simple. I honestly really only took into consideration physical and sexual abuse because those are the types of abuse you really can see and it’s a clear sign of what is going on. I never really thought about all of the different types of abuse such as neglect, psychological, exploitation, verbal, abandonment, self-neglect, and fiduciary. People really need to become more educated on all the types of abuse for many reasons. First of all, they will know what they can all do to help prevent it from happening and they will know how to put an end to it. Also, they will be more aware of any red flags they may see and they will know what to do when they
