The director of “Star Wars: A New Hope” was not only brilliant enough to produce an extremely well-beloved movie, but to create a clear, heartwarming theme throughout the film. A coming-of-age story is the narrative of a protagonist experiencing character growth and development throughout the story. Luke's coming of age was crucial for the movie and the theme being explored. His coming-of-age narrative not only gives Luke a reason to be going on this journey the movie centers around, but it also explores how long the odds were for the rebel alliance and how those fighting against the Evil Empire needed to grow to stand any chance of victory. For instance, Luke's coming of age starts when his family that raised him was murdered by the Empire at the beginning of the movie. The writer made it so that the only thing that was holding Luke back from going to fight to bring the plans to the Rebel Alliance was his uncle and aunt. Also having the family that raised him killed by the Empire, added to Luke's reasons for going into battle against evil. This made Luke's journey seem more realistic while also showcasing the struggles he was going through and how the odds were not in his favor, even at the beginning of the movie. Another significant event in Luke's growth and development of the theme was when Obi-Wan Kenobi was killed right in front of Luke. Obi-Wan was arguably the strongest
