Welcome to everyone here today.
I Shannon Heaver, a member of your organisation of unity (YOU) am here to speak to you today because.
Your country needs, YOU!
We are all different yet we share a common goal, to make South Africa great, and that is what makes us united as South Africans. What is the power of one South African compared to the power of millions and what can one person achieve in comparison to what millions can achieve together. Your Organisation of Unity is a newly formed political party that fights for improving South Africa’s economy, protecting its environment and supporting its citizen’s needs. Through moderate and united means, together we shall achieve.
YOU is an organisation that stems from a different approach. It does not originate through the past but instead aims at the future. The leaders of YOU are compassionate, benevolent and have a desire to strive for success for our country and for you! It is a colour blind organisation that believes in equality, which can right the indecencies of the past without discriminating in the future. We shall not be treate...
Thomas Campbell witnessed division among the church. Archibald Bruce professor from University of Glasgow influenced his desire to be a preacher for Whitburn Seminary of Anti-Burgher Seceder Presbyterian Church. While pastoring in Ireland at Ahorey Church, Campbell was driven by a deep desire to unite the Burghers and Anti-Burghers. Knowing this the Seceder of the Presbyterian Church sent Campbell to unite the Presbyterian churches in New England colonies. In 1807, Campbell agrees to immigrate to America motivated by better health and greater opportunities for his family. Assigned to Chartiers Presbyterian in May of 1807, after a few months preaching from his heart, the Synod called him before them
...f South African language and culture, acknowledgement of the racial oppression in South Africa, past and present, that it was wrong and positive action is required to make it right, and finally that all South Africans are legitimate and enjoy full moral equality (“About – DA”). In order for all this to be possible, the state must ensure it does not compromise the freedom of the individual (“About – DA”).
Insubordination is a problem that the military, workforce and our education system can face on a day to day basis. Insubordination is the defiance of authority or the refusal to obey orders. Words that have similar meanings to insubordinate include "rebellious", “troublesome” and “defiance”. While insubordinate people don't follow orders, rebellious people willingly defy them. Troublesome people just cause trouble by not following directions or rules and people who are defiant purposely refuse to follow any directions what so ever.
Achieving unity within a country is the most fundamental and central goal of a nation. In order for a county to unite, they must first achieve unification in what values they hold to be important. They also need to be in accordance with one another as to how the country works and how they wish to be governed. These factors help create a region's identity and make it different from areas around it. It is a goal most difficult to accomplish due to the discrepancies between cultures, religions, personal beliefs and many other factors that may exist in that area.
Assessing this quote, “Ultimately, the Civil War reduced sectional antagonism and made the United States truly ‘one nation.” This quote is ethical and reasonable, which defines it as being true.
Culture forms the framework for our thoughts and behavior and is defined as sets of values and principles individuals have about how nature and society work, as well as the norms of behavior, derived from that set of values (Gorodnichenko & Roland, 2014). According to Heine (2012), cultures that are individualistic include a variety of customs that encourage individuals to place their own personal goals ahead of those of the collective. In contrast, cultures that are collectivistic include many cultural practices, institutions, and customs that encourage individuals to place more emphasis on collective goals. Furthermore, the dimensions of collectivism and individualism help us to understand cultural differences in a wide variety of psychological
The strength of a nation is not established by the force of its military, economic standing, or government, but rather how its citizens are regarded. In order to attain strength, a nation must respect the principle of solidarity; the power of one voice. For without a defined sense of unity, a society is likely to crumble. Unfortunately, as seen throughout history, civilization has often made it their mission to seek out the differences in one another instead of accepting them. This fear of the unknown has led to humankind’s most despicable behavior; the separation of individuals due to their physical attributes. “Racism is mans gravest threat to man...the maximum of hatred for a minimum reason -Abraham Heschel .” Not only has racism allowed unproven ideologies to spread, but it has also lead to the disintegration of civilizations. Sadly, such tragic events have been a prevalent part in the history of Africa. Perhaps, one of the most blatant forms of racism occurred in South Africa, during the period of Apartheid. From 1948 to 1994 non-white Africans were subjected to horrific treatment, enforced by the South African National Party. The repulsive forms of racial segregation in South Africa, resulting from race and color, not only oppressed the colored majority group, but also denied them of any rights or human dignity.
Groups influence our everyday lives in ways that we don’t even realize. Most of what is learned from groups are societal norms that are being reinforced on a micro level in everyday life. Group influence on individuals is a clear tangible proof of societal norms by institutions. The groups we become a part of therefore can have a greater influence on our individual actions then we are aware of. As an individual we like to believe we have agency over our actions and what we decide but a lot of our own actions is more a part of a group mentality. Also, individual’s go along with a group’s influence so they feel better about themselves because then they won’t be ostracized. This paper will analyze different aspects of individual behavior and
There has been a major dispute between selective versus universal benefits in the welfare policy arena. There are advocates who argue that selective benefits are targeted for individuals who are in greatest need and therefore do most to relieve suffering especially those in rural communities. Universalism system is based on the provision of social welfare benefits for all persons through public or private institutions. Programs that are universal are financed through the government and are used to serve everyone at some point in their life without constraints. Universality is a system that do not discriminate by religion, age, race, sexual orientation, class or gender. It is sometimes classified as a re-distributive institutional approach.
Disadvantaged neighborhoods often present problems such as concentrated poverty, pollution, neglect of maintenance, vandalism, crime, poor mental and physical health and social isolation, which lead to a poor quality of life (Dekker, 2007; Sampson 2012). Many Western countries are trying to both approach and arrest these problems by designing area-based improvement policies (Gade, 2001; Andersson & Musterd, 2005). Before such programs can be implemented, however, one must be aware of which factors may be involved in the problems present in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Although research in this field suggests that there are many factors responsible for the above mentioned problems, this essay will only focus on the social dimension, and more specifically on social cohesion. Although debated, research suggests that Social cohesion may play a critical role in improving quality of life in disadvantaged neighborhoods, for example by reducing crime (Sampson, 2012; Dekker, 2007; Dekker & Bolt, 2005).
It is therefore an indispensable component of democracy (Tshabalala & Lombard, 2009:397). Local government should therefore be concerned with democratising development (Maserumule, 2008:439). The reason for the continuing dissatisfaction and protests by the communities because of poor service delivery eighteen years into democracy is an indication that the local government in South Africa has not been able to provide effectively for local participation (Mathekga & Buccus, 2006:11). In the South African context, community needs cannot be isolated from structural causes, so participation is incorporated into the social justice perspective (Patel,
Our society as an entire hemisphere has been based on the ancient idea of democracy, and for democracy to work the citizens need to be involved. The source shows the opinion of someone that believes that citizens should not be involved in the government. In other words the source tells us that this person would like citizens to be unable to make crucial decisions and leave those jobs to the one’s that know what they are doing. The ideological perspective in this source is fascist because the opinion states that the government should have complete control while the citizens have little to none which is similar to fascism in the way that the citizens are not allowed to disagree with the government and the government would have complete authority over the people. The source therefore has a primarily collectivist perspective. The principles of liberalism that are implied are 3, 4, and 5. Principle #3 and 4 is implied because the source is sharing a view which is the opposite of what principle #3 and 4 expresses. Principle #5 is implied because it states that the government has a responsibility to the people in their most vulnerable state, while the source does not

The United Nations is one of the widely known global organizations that came into existence after the world wars. According to Mark Mazower’s book; No Enchanted Palace, the historical background including the presumed core reasons for the start of the United Nations is outlined. Many people across the globe believe that the UN came into existence after the World War II skirmishes. It is believed that the core reason for the formation of this organization was to maintain peace around the world. Well known historian Mark Mazower in his book however discards this sort of thoughts. He focuses on the archetype interpretation of the UN's ideological roots, history, and its changing roles in international affairs.
