There are many career options to choose from for a professional musician. There are professional musicians that work specifically for churches, music educations, music therapy, music performing, composing or for a recording industry .Out of many to choose from, I decided to do research on the job being a professional musician as part of a symphony orchestra and a specific goal is to become the principal player the section. One of the reasons I’ve decided to have professional musician as my career option is because I’ve been preparing most to have this career as my job. I have been playing the violin for almost 10years and ever since I started the violin, I’ve always been participating in some kind of music program. I have played in 6 different youth symphony orchestras, performed as a soloist ,and have played in several chamber music ensembles ( consist of 4string players). I’ve also experienced being a principal and a concert master in an orchestra .I think these were very good experiences or assessments I’ve taken that have helped and prepared me to become a professional musician if I choose to be one.
To begin with explaining my job description, I want to first explain briefly what a “symphony orchestra” is. A simple “orchestra” is a big instrumental ensemble that holds sections of string, brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. This term “orchestra” came from the name of an area in front of an ancient Greek stage used for Greek chorus. At that time, an orchestra only consisted of an average about fifty musicians or fewer. This type of small-sized orchestra is called a “chamber orchestra”. As number of musician grew throughout history, chamber orchestras became larger and turned into a full-si...

... there are years of practice and hard work. I’ve learned that if you want to be a good musician and a principal player, you need more than just having the desire. I would have to take act and put in the time for music. And as a musician I definitely would have to meet many new people who I don’t have anything in common with, so I would need to have skills like communication skills and not just being able to play .I also thought by doing this research “music”, like other art formulas can unite will people from all directions of life, no matter their language or race since music speaks people on an emotional level. Everyone is familiar with what it is to feel, and a professional musician would have the ability of being able to help total strangers go through and recognize their own emotional states and problems through music. Either way they would thank you for it.
Due to the loose terminology of the eighteenth century, symphonies and suites were sometimes called overtures (Peyser, 1986). The slow-fast-slow alternation of tempos foreshadowed the order of movements in the Classical symphony, lacking only the menuetto.... ... middle of paper ... ... Kenosha, WI: G. Leblanc. Garofalo, R. The first time I picked up an instrument was at the age of 7 when I was in third grade. You can call it fate, luck, or my destiny but I was one of the three students that was able to join my elementary orchestra. Of course like any kid, I was afraid if had the ability to do such a thing. I mean it’s not every day you’re recruiting into the arts. I kept asking myself “can I do this? Will I fit in this group?” in other words can I be part of the classical music culture? It wasn’t till my first school concert where I had my first solo of “My Heart Will Go On” the love theme from Titanic that I was able to express the countless hours put into a 15 second solo. After that experience I never questioned if I belonged to the culture. Instead I focused on the next story I would tell on stage with the music score in
When asked to choose skills, I selected performing arts, problem solving, and speaking, all of which I would use in a career as a music educator. I also selected creativity, independence and prestige as the most important values to me. Again, these values are all applicable in a career in music education.
Being principal player has taught me leadership skills for my musician life and my regular life. Playing in the amount of groups over my career has lead me to play all different types of music from Mozart, to Katy Perry, to Leonard Bernstein. The thing with playing cello is that it doesn’t always have to produce that slow, “boring”, “puts you to sleep” kind of
People have dreams of what they want to do or accomplish in life, but usually musical theatre is just pushed into the non-realistic void. It isn’t a dream for me. In the past four years, musical theatre has been clarified as my reality. Musical theatre has been the only thing I have seen myself wanting to do. My first love was The Phantom of the Opera, seeing how I watched it almost every day and it was one of the first shows I saw. Of course, I started doing all of those cute shows in middle school and making a huge deal about it to my family and friends, but I have never felt so passionate about something. The minute I get up on that stage I throw away Riley for two and a half hours and it’s the most amazing feeling! Being able to tell a story

Throughout history music has had a profound effect on a person’s mind, body, and consciousness. A song or piece of music can trigger vivid memories, and induce emotions ranging from deep sorrow to unabashed joy. Music can drive listeners to patriotic fervor or religious frenzy, or it can soothe the savage beast we call human. There have been many advances in technology that have let us study how music affects the brain. Music causes all sorts of activity in the brain, especially during musical improvisation. Music can tremendously help people with certain mind damaging diseases, and in some cases it can have negative effects.
Whether the student is a beginner, or someone who has studied music for a number of years, the way in which one views oneself as a musician can be an important factor in the kinds of experiences one has with music. A quality music education is one that challenges students to set clear and achievable goals, think musically and critically, and apply what one has learned in a meaningful way. If a musician harbors a negative view of his or her musical abilities, the lasting effects of this view on his or her musical experiences and achievement could be challenging to overcome.
With so many different cultures, races, religions, personalities, etc., it’s surprising how many fundamental things humans share. Music intertwines us all with its diversity and the effect it has on us. Whether you’re looking to rock out in a dance party, get a good workout in, sleep soundly, study hard, recover from a depressive state, or get the thrill of a super scary horror movie, music is there. Although listening to music is thought to be solely a source of entertainment, it can be used to improve almost all aspects of our everyday life.
Money, fame, and promiscuity are the three main components of the American Dream, and what better way to get to that level than through music? The truth is, almost any other profession has a higher statistical chance of achieving this goal. Musicianship is a nearly impossible career plan to survive with. An artist will spend incalculable hours learning and mastering their craft, only to be oppressed by the community. No matter how much time or money a musician spends on his/her creations, the world will typically find a way to avert their success.

The process of choosing a career is, many times, a difficult decision. Many factors must be taken into account while deciding a career. Such factors usually include pay, work environment, and most importantly, what the person is interested in. Becoming a musician would be a highly fulfilling career for the reasons of broadening one’s musical abilities, people enjoying something that an individual made, and traveling the country, possibly even the world, for musical opportunities such as teaching, performing, and writing.
Music dates back many centuries ago. Music was used for an array of things. In some cases, it was used for rituals, to pass messages, or even for celebrations. There are approximately five to six hundred genres of music currently in existent today. Most music would have been said to originate or birth from folk music in America and evolved overtime to form different genres of music. Music has a long history and connection to human beings and their behavior. Music can also affect someone’s behavior whether it be negatively or positively. There have been many studies and research on the effect of music towards human behavior. Specifically hip-hop and soundscape music seem to have the most interesting effects on human behavior. Moreover, to gain better understanding of how music effects human behavior knowing how the brain functions is also essential.
