The understanding of competence concepts in managerial study is heavily implied through the behavioural, functional or standard, the situational, the meta-competency and the holistic approach in the development of managerial competence. Nursing competence is heavily influenced by managerial competence in order to have a clear understanding of over the concept. However, in nursing competence literature the concept is still not clearly identifying and has a debate concerning the concept of competence which references to the position of nursing manager, staff or qualified nurses. Based on view the issues surrounding nursing competence, trainee nurses’ competence development are heavily influenced by several factors and environment in order to live their experience and influence their understanding of competence acquisition at the workplace. The past study highlights, trainee nurses needs in necessary basic nursing competency requirements such as knowledge, problem solving, critical thinking, ability and skill as well as moral agility for self-development that influence trainee nurses experience in providing healthcare services.
MOHE highlights, the core competencies such as application of knowledge and critical thinking as most competencies that nurses need to develop and apply. Beside of that, nursing competence literature highlight clinical placement as an important venue for trainee nurses acquire their necessary competence even though there is an issue of overcrowded clinical placement which can hinder the student nurses’ experience acquisition and caused by the lack of competence and challenges at the workplace. The acquisitions of student nurses competence are influenced by several situational factors that can divide by two which is internal and external factors. The internal factors consist of personal context and clinical competence, whereas external factors consist of organizational context consists of clinical environments, clinical placement and the competency based education and training. However, nursing competence literature is lacking in order to highlight how student nurses’ acquire their competence at the workplace and how competence is being conceptually understood and addressed by the student nurses training
session. However, the different experience may acquire a different or new competence at work. Trainee nurses need to be able to acquire sufficient knowledge and clinical skills in order to transform them into effective practice. The trainee is expected to develop the required knowledge, clinical skills, experience and competence during their clinical practice and clinical placement in order becoming competent nurses at the workplace. Thus, clinical experience plays an important role in helping trainees to acquire those necessary competencies to be competent at the workplace. As a social learner, trainee nurses are always exposed to their clinical practice to acquire knowledge and learnt from the people surrounding by understanding, observing, investigating and experiencing to prepared to become competent in future career. The theory of informal learning is appropriate in the process to acquire competence. On that assumption, it is underlying that, trainee nurse is a social learner and learnt from the social, community and also working environment. This would enable trainee nurses learnt from the observation as well as their experience. Furthermore, this theory enhances the social learning among nursing students to get close to the social relationship which is consist of a supervisor, clinical staff and peers. There is strong indication that a professional learning takes place in the workplace and be a main key to competence acquisition. However, the theories of SL: LPP is less applied in the Malaysia context. Thus, this study would contribute the theory of SL: LPP as a social learning theory ofstudent nurses to understand competence based on their experience of informal learning. Nursing educators and researchers developed theoretical frameworks for the nursing practice that are used to validate application of nursing knowledge and skills, and the theory gives a professional identity for nursing practice. Watson’s caring theory provides guidelines in transformational nursing practice, and stimulates nursing when profession experiencing shortages, decline, crisis in care, safety and healthcare reform. Nurse staffing issue creates potential challenge for nursing profession; therefore, nursing leadership should be involved, and actively participate to resolve it (Peterson, S, J. & Bredow, T. S., 2013).
Competence in nursing is having the knowledge, judgement, skills and experience to carry out professional duties correctly and effectively (RCN, 2009). All nurses must prove their level of competence before they can become registered as a nurse. They must do this by showing their competencies in all fields of nursing, and by proving their specific competencies in their own field of nursing, without doing this, they will not be allowed to practice. This ensures that all practicing nurses have a high level of competency. The nursing and midwifery council also states that to protect the public they ensure that they set standards for education, training and conduct, and by ensuring registered nurses keep their skills and knowledge up to date.

Once upon a time, my best friend, Bryan Martinez, often heard his mother’s medical conversations with friends. One day at school, our teacher confronted Mrs. Martinez and told her that she was able tell that Bryan was a son from a nurse. I believe that nursing excellence is demonstrated when nurses are involved in promoting holistic patient centered care, quality and innovation, education, evidence-based practice, and nursing research. Nursing organizations plays a pivotal role in promoting nursing excellence. For this discussion post, I will be discussing the role of two organizations; the National League of Nursing (NLN) and the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN), in promoting nursing excellence and nursing practice.
Clinical placements allow student nurses to put theory into practice with real patients and actual clinical situations. Every placement will challenge student, improve communication skills, build own knowledge and foster own reflective practice. It is one of the most interesting and exciting aspects of training to be a nurse. I personally believe that, students must be responsible for their own learning opportunities and understand the outcomes they need to achieve on placement, discussing any queries with their clinical supervisor. I always look for learning opportunities. I approach my clinical supervisor for her guidance to perform any new skills fall into my scope of practice.
Saying that you are a registered nurse is a broad statement. Registered nursing is a job that has many aspects. Registered nurses work in many different settings and they carry out many different routines. As a registered nurse you could be exposed to many different opportunities. My goal is to be a registered nurse but, I need to learn a lot. Becoming a being a registered nurse requires a lot of hard work and effort but, if I focus on my goal I will be able to achieve it.
Nursing and Qualities That I Possess to become a Good Nurse Nursing is the act of safely caring, protecting and improving our clients’/patients’ health and ability without causing any further harm or disability to them. Our primary goal is to restore and maintain good health physically, spiritually and psychologically. It is a science, such that one has to apply the nursing knowledge and technical aspects of practice. However, it is important to incorporate the act of patient-centered care, which is defined according to QSEN/NOF, as holistic care that recognizes the patient as the source of control and full-partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care with respect for the patient’s desire, values, needs and preferences. It has to incorporate with the nurse’s personality, i.e., certain qualities that the individual possess.
The career i chose is a branch of the medical field. I chose a career in nursing, more specifically the career path of a registered nurse. This career consists of providing care for people of all ages and helping them with managing their conditions. I chose this career because my mother is an rn and my family has a strong presence in the medical field. It is important to understand the education or training requirements, skills, or talents needed, salary, benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career when making this decision.
