Problem/ Health Issue
To begin with, Mental Disorder is a medical condition that disrupts a person’s thinking, feeling, mood, ability to relate to others and daily living. Just like chronic disease, a mental illness is a medical condition that often results in a diminished capacity for coping with the ordinary demands of life. Mental disorders are severe depending upon the severity of the illness. An illness can be classified as mild, moderate, or severe.
A serve disorder would consist of having ongoing treatment and the need of intensive support to do many things where as a less serious mental illness. A severe disorder would consist of individuals who suffer from diseases affecting the brain. Abnormal balance of brain chemicals have been linked to mental illness. This person would have delusions and hallucinations which cannot be controlled by the person right state of mind. Some examples of serious mental disorders include post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, drug addiction, and personality disorders. A mental disorder can and will not strike anyone. “They are not the result of a person being weak or having a bad upbringing” (2006).
Furthermore, there are many different conditions that are recognized as a mental disorder (WebMD, 2012). The 10 most diagnosed mental disorders are bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorder, panic disorder, anxiety disorders, phobias, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, eating disorder, personality disorder and mood disorders. People with anxiety disorders respond to certain objects or situations with fear. Many times mental disorders go untreated and it is very important that family and friends don’t let this go ignored and seek help for their loved ones.
