Definition of liniments :
Liniments are either oleaginous solution or alcoholic solotion or emultion and these preparation are liquid or semi liquid intended for external (topical ) application on the skin applied by rubbing on the affected area.liniments are used to treat pain and stiffness of the underlying muscuare.liniments are also known as Embrocation due to the form of application :rubbing the area of pain .The liniment texture offers an ease in usage and massage due it its oil or soap base.
Types of liniments
There are two main categories of liniments based on the vihicle used in the prepartion depending on the action desired.
1. Alcoholic liniments: (Linimenta spirituosa)
Alcoholic liniments are with an alcoholic or hydroalcoholic vihicle.alcoholic liniments subdivides into :
a)liniment alcohol (Linimenta spirituosa) they include in their preparation alcohol as well as medicinal substances and liqueurs often(brandy peppers)
b)soap alcohol (Sapolnimenta) they include in their preparation dispersion medium alcoholic solution of soap .they might by in form of jelly in case of containing sodium soap or liquid in case of containing potassium soap. two of soap alcohol liniment’s main characteristics is that upon rubbing on the skin it might cause emulsification of sebum and it disolves rapidly into the skin with the medicinal substances in it.
Alcoholic liniments in general are used because of their penetrating, counterirritant, rubefacient and their mildly astingent effects.
2. Oleaginous liniments:
This type of liniments are used primerly for massage in spite of ther mild action.oleaginous liniments are less irritating to the skin than alcoholic liniments putting in mind the ingridients included in the preparation.Oleagino...

When formulating liniments the vihicle used in the prepartion should be choosen based on the type of action desired wheather it is massage ,counterirritant or rubefacient action.Liniments are formulated by the general methods of formulating liquid dosage forms like solutions, emultions or suspentions.
Example :white liniments ingridients Official formula
Oleic acid 85ml
Turpentine oil 250ml used as counterirritant
Ammonia solution 45ml used to provide alkaline medium
Ammonium chloride 12.5g (active ingredient)
Purified water 625ml used as a primary solvent
Procedure :
1. Add oleic acid to the turpentine oil and mix them.
2. Dilute the ammonia solution in 45ml of previously warmed water.
3. Add the products of the first and second steps and shake it to form emulsion
4. Dissolve the ammonium chloride in water
5. Add the ammonium chloride solution to the emulsion.
This experiment was divided into two main steps. The first step was the addition of bromine to trans-stilbene. Trans-stilbene was weighted out 2.00g, 0.0111mol and mixed with 40ml of glacial acetic acid in 100ml Erlenmeyer flask on a hot bath. Pyridinium hydrobromide perbromide of 4.00g, 0.0125mol was added carefully into the flask.
and a little bit more water at the end. In bottle 4 we put a little ester in with more
An emulsion is the forcing of substances that would not normally mix. In this experiment, multiple oil-in-water emulsions were performed. An oil-in-water emulsion is when there are little droplets of oil dispersed throughout water. The most common type of emulsion includes fats and water. A temporary emulsion was formed from this experiment. A temporary emulsion has to be shaken or mixed in some form to stay together (later on it will separate). This similar idea is used with salad dressings.
First, hand sanitizer is made up of key ingredients. There is an active ingredient, which is the ingredient that kills the germs. This is usually alcohol, but can be many other things like ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol or a combination of both. “Benzalkonium chloride is another FDA-approved active ingredient in some hand sanitizers. Although it is not an alcohol, benzalkonium chloride also works to kill bacteria and some viruses on the hands” (Jackie). Also, there are humectants added. Humectants are added to hand sanitizer to moisturize the skin. Glycerin and propylene glycol are humectants. They are commonly used in hand sanitizer. From the humicants holding water, they help prevent your skin from drying with frequent use of hand sanitizer because the active ingredients can dry out your skin. There are more ways of hand sanitizer moisturizing your skin. For example, “Isopropyl myristate is an emollient, which is a chemical that seals the skin surface and makes it smoother. It is made from a substance naturally found in nutmeg, coconut oil and some animal fats. Many hand contain isopropyl myristate and moisturizers, such as aloe vera and tocopherol acetate, or synthetic vitamin E” (Jackie). Carbomer and amniomethyl propanol are common ingredients used as binding agents. Emulsifiers keep other ingredients f...
Some of these solutions use the common cleaning agent ammonia hydroxide, which is non-flammable. The cleaning solution also contains isopropyl alcohol, oleic acid, pine oil and water. These ingredients are very non-toxic compared to some ingredients, such as formaldehyde, in other cleaners. Oleic acid comes from a variety of animal and plant sources. Pine oil is an essential oil that comes from needles, twigs and cones from pine trees. This pine oil is commonly used as a lubricant for small clock parts. Watch rinsing solution contains similar ingredients and is designed for rinsing out watch parts. The rinsing solution removes the oily film at room temperature and does not have any odor. Sufracants Dirt, grime and buildup can accumulate in cuckoo clocks, causing them to not function properly. Because of this, solutions that remove this dirt and grime, work well with heavy dirt buildup. Furniture polish should not be used because it can make the buildup problem even worse. Surfractants are usually used in cuckoo clock cleaners, while other cleaners are made out of soap. Surfractants are substances designed to allow water to move more freely on surfaces, which allows water to more effectively clean objects. Petroleum Distallate Watch cleaners usually use petroleum
Alcoholic beverages make their appearance in many places other than the local bar or liquor store. These drinks have been known to be consumed at social
Alcohol comes in many forms, but primarily it is beer, wine and distilled spirits. Maisto, Galizio & Conners (2011) point out that, “the first non-distilled (sic) alcoholic beverages were made inadvertently by natural fermentation” (p. 192). These drinks were primarily wine and beer, with beer being the oldest fermented beverage (Maisto et al., 2011). Boozah, as the Egyptians called beer, was fermented using dehydrated dough that was soaked in water until the fermentation process was complete (Maisto et al., 2011). Wine is similarly produced; however, the fermentation is developed using a variety of fruit, chiefly grapes, and yeast (Maisto et al., 2011). Distillation came much later and fortified the beverage with a much higher concentration of alcohol. This method uses a fermentation process of sugar dissolved in water and exposed to air, which is then heated to a vapor and condensed through cooling (Maisto et al., 2011). The psychoactive ingredient in all alcoholic beverages is ethanol.
The strongest alcohol drinks are called liquors or spirits. An Arabian alchemist named Geber discovered liquor in the eighteenth century A.D. Geber made liquor by distillation, burning away the impurities that formed in wine during fermentation and isolated the remaining liquids. As a result, the concentrated liquid had a higher alcoholic content, which was ?mainly flavored alcohol and water?(Milgram 65). Arnaud de Villanueva discovered liquor in Europe 500 years later, when he made brandy. Arnaud claimed that brandy would cure all humanity?s diseases, prolong life, maintain youth, a...
First, the injections create tiny perforations in the scalp, which triggers the body’s natural healing process. In response, the body produces more collagen and elastin in order to repair the skin. However, because the skin is not actually damaged by the microinjections, the increased levels of collagen and elastin encourage the growth of healthy hair and skin. Then, the active ingredients injected cause a chemical action, stimulating the mesoderm in order to encourage hair growth. Only high quality ingredients are used to ensure the effectiveness of this process.

Caustic potash (potassium hydroxide) can be used instead of caustic soda (sodium hydroxide)but is more expensive. The base used to come from wood ash containing potassium carbonate which formed potash as this was not plentiful it made soap a luxury. The cheapest source of the ester is animal and vegetable fats and oils.
