When most hear the word leisure the second word that comes to mind associated with that is relaxation. In the text journal and other articles I researched they all described leisure in somewhat similar way. According to A.J.Veal “Leisure is a state of mind which ordinarily is characterized by un-obligated time and willing optimism. It can involve extensive activity or no activity. The key ingredient is an attitude, which fosters a peaceful and productive co-existence with the elements in one 's environment. “Veal described leisure in an appropriate manner. First off, leisure is defined by individuals and may be viewed differently in regards to their life style. For me personally leisure doesn’t necessarily mean to relax it means time well spent. …show more content…
For example, “in the article The Significance of Recreation and Leisure in the lives of Marine Wives during Deployment, “This study examined the significance of recreation and leisure in the lives of Marine wives coping with a deployment. The stressors of the current deployment, coping methods, and involvement in recreation and leisure activities were investigated. Results from the study suggest that involvement in recreation and leisure helps reduce stress from a deployment and therefore help Marine wives cope more effectively.” These activities consisted of gardening, spending time with friends, and participating in volunteer work. For them leisure was a way of keeping themselves occupied in order to fill the absence of their spouse. Also, leisurely time can be very therapeutic and great for an individual’s health. In the article “Leisure and health: why is leisure therapeutic This review of the literature provides empirical evidence that leisure can contribute to physical, social, emotional and cognitive health through prevention, coping (adjustment, remediation, diversion), and transcendence.” For example, when one partakes in a leisurely activity that they enjoy it can bring them complete peace. In majority of the articles I found my view on leisure was similar in almost every sense of the word when compared. For example, A.J.Veal stated Leisure, then, is a block of unoccupied time, spare time, or free time when we are free to rest or do what we choose. Leisure is time beyond that which is required for existence, the things which we must do, biologically, to stay, alive (that is, eat, sleep, eliminate, medicate, and so on): and subsistence, the things we must do to make a living as in work, or prepare to make a living as in school, or pay for what we want done if we do not do it ourselves. Leisure is time in which our feelings of compulsion should be minimal It is discretionary time, the time to be used according to our own judgment or choice. Like Veal said “ unoccupied time is leisure.” Felling that time with leisurely activities is what separates individuals. For me, a normal leisure activity would be going to the gym, or playing board game with my family after a long stressful day. Both these activities allow me the opportunity to escape the every day hustle and bustle, and just

To discuss work, one must first of all try to define work. Once one starts to think about this definition however, one finds that there are as many definitions of work as there are people. Experts such as sociologists have been trying to reach a definite answer, yet they can never agree between them. Although it is accepted that work is that time which is not leisure, one is then confounded with trying to find a definition for leisure. Stanley Parker reached a compromise by dividing our time in five sections, merging from pure work to pure leisure. However this difficulty in defining work should point out that these many different definitions lead to different attitudes, with the result that one can never generalise.
...society now classifies leisure as simply ‘free time.’ Time away from work or school, no matter how it is enjoyed, is more broadly defined as leisure today.

“Active family leisure is any nonwork activity that is freely chosen, benefits those involved, is participated in with the whole family, and includes physical movement by those participants.” Families tend not to have leisure time together or at all. When this happens the child may find friends or relatives that they may take in interest in participating in activities with. This makes the parent child relationship difficult and maybe even none existent. (Taylor et al).
The central distinctions between the different types of leisure activities Active - this is when an activity is more demanding (for example playing a sport walking) Passive - this is when an activity undertaken is not a physical activity (for example reading, listening to music) Home based leisure is when a leisure activity is undertaken at home and non home-based leisure is when an activity involves leaving the home e.g. going to the cinema. Relaxation is necessary in one’s day to day active life. A person must work hard but his energy is limited, and if he spends too much of it he will soon feel tired. Even a machine cannot work for a long time at a stretch and it is given rest at regular intervals, otherwise it gets out of order. To move out of our daily hectic schedule life or more specific to relax, we need to perform several activities of our choice to get relax, which also provide amusement, benefit to us. Some of them that I follow are dancing, swimming and watching movies or watching Television.
The poem Education for Leisure is extremely effective in many ways - Discuss Education for Leisure The poem ‘Education for Leisure’ is extremely effective in many ways. The poet has effectively used poetic techniques to show his/her attitude towards the speaker in the poem and has also given impressions of the speaker. The impressions that are given of the speaker are those of a murderous person who is full of menace and insanity. One of the ways that this is shown is in the first stanza when the words ‘something’ and ‘Anything’ are used in the sentence ‘Today I am going to kill something.

Recreation and Leisure activities are in a high critical dimension of quality of life for everyone, including people with developmental disabilities. Sadly, many of those who are disabled are still limited to segregated recreation and leisure choices for any reason or another. Some people will confine themselves to opportunities which include trying a new variety of activities in different settings with different people; here some of the factors that can be affecting: Age, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Racial and Ethnic identity, and Socioeconomic status.
A leisure activity is any activity chosen for pleasure, relaxation, or other emotional satisfaction, typically something one would participate in during free time. The leisure activity I have chosen to partake in is knitting. My great-grandmother was an excellent knitter and would make my whole family scarves and dishcloths when she was alive. She would give them out as Christmas presents, so I want to carry on her tradition. Knitting is a relaxing and simple task, so it is a great way for me to occupy my spare time and escape the stresses of work and school.
Tourism is an important and intricate element to society. It affects economical, social, cultural and environmental elements. Tourism can be argued to have a negative impact on the environment and decrease our already depleting resources, but tourism can also be argued to be a major contributor to strengthening economies, spread cultural traditions and improve people’s lives. 2006). To me recreation is having fun with people that makes you laugh and smile. Outdoor recreation, to me, means to remember the joy that nature brought me at five years old with friends and family exploring what Mother Nature provides us and feeling youthful again. Sometimes this would be exploring the countryside, seeing what humanity has not touched, and running around the fields at top speed. Finding a new path to take or just exploring somewhere new by hiking to a swimming hole, or even just walking around somewhere new and taking in all the details so you can recreate them in a drawing to share with people and to look back on years from now. During my experience simulation, I walked along paths in the forest by my house and took in every detail that nature provides. I would look at a fallen tree and remember being at my cottage climbing a falling tree and wanting to hang off it. I saw all the leaves changing colour and remembered cleaning up the grounds of my family farm and then wanting to jump into the colourful pile. My experience gave me memories of when I was younger and it allowed me
