It has been proven that mobile phones are one of the greatest inventions to the mankind. Mobile phones have become an essential part of our lives. But in the past, having a mobile phone was limited to the people who are rich. Mobile phones are now affordable for everyone, thanks to cost reduction techniques, inventions and improvements over a period of time. With excess mobile phones sets overload the market; they are not just supplying for the needs but are acting as prestige signs for many. Starting point of this device is quite fascinating. Mobiles phones have come a long way so far, beginning from huge mobile phones which were as one’s forearms size in both length and weight, to ultra-thin and techno savvy handsets. The basic telephony is where it all begins with. In the year 1876, Alexander Graham Bell was the first one to patent telephone. By using the equipment designed for telegraph, this technology was developed. With the help of operators, all the calls were connected. And in early 1890’s, a support of the mobile telephony came into actuality when the radio communication was invented by Charles Stevenson for keep contacts with the offshore lighthouses. Later in year 1894, signals known as radio waves were transmitted over the distance of 2kms by Guglielmo Marconi. Moreover, in 1906 music was aired through radio proficiently by Reginald Fessenden. And the following development was union of radio telephone technology. This technology was used by the first class passenger trains, running from Berlin to Hamburg in the year 1926. Besides that, this technology was also used for air traffic safety as well for the safety in the passenger airplanes. Joel, invented the automatically operated system called “call handoff “. This invention of the system has permitted mobile phones to travel through several cell areas when a phone call is established, with assurance that there will be no loss or disconnection of call and conversation. Moving forward, the year 1971 saw AT&T Incorporation stepped up to propose a cellular service which was later approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Another breakthrough was made in history of cell phones when the ARP network was a success, which was then launched and operated in Finland in the year 1971. The ARP network is also called the Zero Generation cellular network, as it is one of the first commercial mobile phone networks introduced to the world.
