Cell phones are wonderment 's of technological advances over time. Though when do Cell phones become a tool that could be used to cause suffering, like in this case getting me in trouble. None the less, the time I was used my phone the wrong way not only got me in to trouble, but made me realize that I should think before I do. Like any other 17 year old I owned a Cell phone, or called “smart phones”, regardless, my cell phone was a very big part of my life and still is to this day. It can be used to contact people all around the world, play games, video call, watch hilarious animal videos which yes I do from time to time, no shame. They’re mini computers in the palms of your hands, truly a magnificent beauty that bring a tear to my eyes. Though …show more content…
I walked very nervously down to the office, wondering why I was being called down, for what reason? I slowly entered like a snail into the main office, where i was greeted by the receptionist behind the desk. She said in a nasally voice, “ The vice principal would like to see you in his office.” I responded with an “ Okay.” I walked back to the Vice Principal’s office, i opened the door and saw the Vice Principal and a teacher aid sitting behind the wooden desk. “ Take a seat Scott, we would like to talk to you about the incident in the hall way yesterday after school, about the two girls who got in a fight.” Said the Vice Principal in a stern tone. He went on to show me the video recording from one of the school’s many monitoring video cameras. It showed not only the fight, and the wild spectators, but also me rolling around on the floor with my phone out, recording the fight and sending it on Snapchat for the world to see. I wasn’t aware though of the law that prohibits video taping of people that could damage their reputation, I was filled in on this by the Vice Principal and the teacher aid sitting beside him to his right. For this reason, I was given two days in-school suspension, plus a not so joyful reaction from my Father upon hearing of my punishment handed down by the school. I spent the next two days in in-school, as i mentioned earlier, being brought down my work from my classes, having sheer boredom rush over my body when i was finished and all I could do was stare at the paint chipped wall. This goes t show that Cell Phones might be true gems of our generation, but we shouldn’t use them like knuckleheads, because then you might up in the same position i was in, or maybe even worse. So keep the phones in your pockets when you see trouble, because trouble will then find you as
In the essay “Our Cell Phones, Our Selves” written by Christine Rosen, the author presents a brief history on how cell phones were introduced into society and how this artifact changed people’s interactions in the physical space. Rosen describes the first cell phone that appeared in 1983 as “hardly elegant,” big and expensive (458). Cell phones at that time were mainly used by important and affluent people. However, seven years later, cell phones became smaller and affordable provoking a big change in society. This big technological advance did not only affect the United States, but the entire world.
The world’s first mobile phone call was made on April 3, 1973, when Martin Cooper, a senior engineer at Motorola, called a rival telecommunications company and informed them he was speaking via a mobile phone. The phone Cooper used, if you could call it that, weighed a staggering 1.1kg and measured in at 228.6x127x44.4mm. With this prototype device, you got 30 minutes of talk-time and it took around 10 hours to charge.”(knowyourmobile). Back then cell phones weren’t as flashy but everyone was just as excited for them as they are now. “Many of the early cell phones were considered to be “car phones,” as they were too large and cumbersome to carry around in a pocket or purse. However, in 1983, the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x arrived on the market. Though huge by today’s standards, it was considered the first truly mobile phone because it was small enough to carry.”(artinstitutes).
However, they could also save your life. Today, cellphones make it a lot easier to get help. If you are in trouble and need help all you have to do is say “Siri, call 911” on your cell phone. Instead of going to the police office after an incident you can report it while or even before it happens for immediate help. It wasn’t always that easy though. We used to not be able to get help before cell phones. “We had to literally call for help from our own voices instead of a cellphone” said marc Bodnick from /www.quora.edu/ they can be easily used for natural disasters, being attacked, or health emergencies as
There was a time when people communicated mainly through writing letters, talking on the phone, or speaking personally to others. Our communication capabilities and the dynamic of our social world has changed drastically with the introduction of electronics – especially cellular smartphones. In today’s world, hand-held cellular phones have transformed the way people communicate. While these devices have made us much more productive and efficient, they are causing our society to lose the important life skill of interpersonal communication. People can be seen everywhere fixating on their phones instead of interacting with others. Many are mesmerized by what they can do on their phones and are often seen using them while walking down the street, sitting at a restaurant during dinner, and even while driving. I believe cell phones are negatively impacting our society because they are harming our interpersonal skills, consuming our lives, and creating an imminent danger.
When cell phones were first introduced, all you could do was call others and talk for half an hour. It was like a brick and took ten hours to charge. It also cost $3995. That’s a lot more than most of today’s cell phones. Even, though it was a very basic phone, it began impacting the world. Now, you could call your relatives and actually talk with them without being next to them. Parents gave their kids cell phones to stay in touch. Now you can contact anyone through your mobile phone in multiple ways. You can text, call, facetime or message someone through social media. Cell phones abilities
What is a cell phone? When did the cell phone come out? Cell phones are electronic devices used for communicating. Engineer Martin Cooper was the first individual who made the first public cell phone in 1973 (Browning). Later on, the cell phone became the most important tool for our daily life in the modern world. Today society is a cell phone-controlled world, to some degree. Even though it is true that cell phones bring countless conveniences to people, the use of cell phones should be restricted. Despite their advantages as mapping and communication tools, they can cause accidents when used while driving, restrict driver’s attention which can cause safety concerns, and even lead to health problems.
“There are almost 180 million cell phone users and it is rapidly expanding” (Betancourt). Nearly every student in the United States owns a cell phone. Cell phones have been around for forty years. The first cell phone was placed by Martin Cooper in 1973. Cell phones become increasingly popular as the twenty-first century technology becomes more advance. People in younger generation rely on cell phone to accomplish basic needs. Some even becomes addictive to the cell phone. For example, I have a cousin who considers cell phone as an important part of her daily life. If I ask her to put away her cell phone, she would complain “I can’t live without my cell phone.” Cell phone should be prevented from using excessively because if cell phone is used in an improper way, it would ultimately becomes a distraction device for students. Therefore, students would be lack in interpersonal relationship, distracted during class, which can lead to academic failure, and distracted while driving, which can lead to serious accident and death. The negative impacts of cell phone on students are significant matters that need to be addressed.
Gradually, features like voicemail were added, but the main purpose was talk. Eventually, cell phone companies began to realize that they could integrate other technologies into their phone and expand its features. The earliest smartphones let users access email, and use the phone as a fax machine, pager, and address book. James Katz, an information technologist and author of “Is Cell Phones a New Culture” , a article in the Popular Science magazine. This article’s mission to deliberate the original purpose of a mobile device. Katz explains “ ... To clarify, it isn 't a bad thing that cell phones have moved away from their original purpose, because with smartphones and the technology, they are able to do things that no one could ever dream of. Modern mobile phones all have e-mail, games, social media, movies, and messaging, all features that can be accessed but, cell phones original intent were to be able to communicate through voice remotely.” Taking this into consideration, cell phones don 't even serve that purpose , thanks to apps like GoSms, Instant Message,Snapchat,Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp and many more, people are not even utilizing their oral communication skills nearly as much as they should. Surveys reveal that 88% of teens prefer to communicate via text than phonecall. Today, majority of the population owns a cell phone, but how many of us can survive without one

We use our cell phones daily for communication with friends and family through texting and phone calls, scheduling appointment, or social media. We have been allowing cell phones to impact our lives in negative ways. Our everyday life changes every day because of these cell phones and how we use them. I have noticed in everyone’s life, including mine, that it is hindering us socially and physically. My biggest concern is the negative impact it is having on our education and students allowing them to get in the way of their education. We need to get a hold on these cell phones before it gets any more out of hand, but I think it is too
So where does the dispute come in? Consider the fact that these wondrous inventions which allow us to stay connected to our family, friends, and co-workers also have mounting allegations against them as being the cause of less interaction with people in our day to day lives. There are countless lists on the pros and cons of owning a cell phone. It becomes easier to understand why such a blurry line divides the two sides when you realize that you are dealing with a device that has been called “life saving” in an emergency, while at the same time being the very component responsib...
