THREE THINGS I WOULD CHANGE ABOUT BRCC Education is the most powerful weapon which we can use to change the world. College becomes expensive for students. College students pays different school fees but don’t know where all their money going towards but things around school needs to be repair and changed around also. If I Can change three things about Baton Rouge community college I would change the parking lots, older teachers, and also the air conditioners. First, parking on campus needs improving. . Baton Rouge community college needs to expand their parking lot because it be complicated trying to find a parking spot on campus. With every new freshmen students that’s just coming out of high school is taking up most of the parking spaces. I believe parking passes should be free for students because students have to park sometimes in Mc Donald parking lot because they don’t have no other choice. Also there needs to be additional parking on campus and also for those that are visiting the campus. The parking lots have also plenty of pot holes that can damage student car and can cause a flat tire. If a student hit another student car it’s hard to find out who did it because there isn’t enough policemen out in the parking lots looking. Brittany …show more content…
Sometimes older professors makes a lot of mistakes when they are teaching or grading papers and becomes a big problem with the students. Calling in sick and missing class also be a problem with older teachers because there can be lots of assignments that need to be done. Brcc student Ashley Canes said “Don't become a teacher if you are easily flustered. Plans change, kids do weird stuff, emergencies happen”. Teachers need to be able to think on your feet, make decisions and adjust quickly and not let younger teachers make students tests up. Education has always been a current issue due to the fact that it is seen as an economic cure-all. However, the perception of college is ill-conceived and there are multiple debates on how to improve it. College universities believe that having open admissions will increase the amount of matriculations, but the fact is the amount of students being enrolled into a four-year university has no relationship to the amount of students with academic aspirations. W.J. Reeves, an English professor at Brooklyn College of The City University of New York, gives a few examples of how open admissions has changed education methods and student abilities. Many great minds believe that education is a powerful tool. Investing in your education is the most valuable and most rewarding thing a person can do to secure their future. Influential people who have brought positive changes to the world have said: “The investment in knowledge pays the best interest”. (Franklin). “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. (Nelson Mandela). “A brighter future starts with an education”. (Montgomery).
Most African-Americans agree that they have much to gain by earning a college degree. Most will also agree that this task is much easier said than done. Unfortunately, many African-Americans find that disparities in higher education eclipse their expectations of equal educational opportunity. For many, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are a great solution. Since the founding of Cheyney University in 1837, HBCUs have continually been established to give African-Americans an education as they could not attend other institutions due to segregation laws. HBCUs became more widespread in the 1960s with twenty-seven institutions being established, twenty-four of which still exist today among the 105 institutions. HBCUs play an important role in the education of African-Americans compared to other colleges and universities. They historically provided a way for African-Americans to receive an education that Predominantly White Institutions (PWIs) did not allow, they offer an inclusive environment that fosters better academic and social adjustment, and their open admissions policy along with efforts to enhance retention rates gives African-American students from disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity for success.
College is not for everyone, although, everyone should have some form of higher education. "Should everyone go to college?" is an essay meant to inform students of the pros and cons of going to college. Owens and Sawhill state that the cost of a college degree may not be worth the money that students put into furthering their education. In their article, Owens and Sawhill use three different rhetorical appeals; egos, logos, and pathos; to persuade the readers to think consciously about attending college. Their argument was effective because it forces the readers to look at the overall college experience in different aspects.
For the many high school students graduating this year, how would they react to receiving two free years of community college? Majority of high school students would be very excited to have two free years of community college and it would reduce some of the stresses that come with going to college. Right now President Obama is trying to implement a two year free community college plan that would allow high school students wanting to go to college an option for many of the on-the-fence types of high school students today. High school students who before did not think that they would be cut out for college because of financial reasons are not going to worry anymore about this issue. For this reason it is essential to eliminate funding inequalities all students deserve a high quality education especially in the low-income areas. Providing more money to these areas can reduce crime and gang activity, lower the teen birth rate, restore self-confidence, provide these students and opportunity to attend college, also break the cycle of poverty. The President “Race to the Top Program” is a start but more need to be done from the local and state level.
What if one day the tuition of your community college was to become free? If you couldn 't afford college would you go? This purpose scarcely requires justification.” America needs educated citizens to help maintain the level of intelligence we have in society. Students need to be taught to their specific career and the knowledge needed in that career. Though education students are strengthened for their futures as good citizens. When it comes down to choosing a college or a university to attend, the decision may be hard to make. Students often compare differences and similarities in their college experience between small and big schools when it comes to looking more into the learning environment, housing opportunities, and the entertainment provided.
Parking on campus needs improving. Students entering the university are allowed to have a car on campus. With every new freshmen class entering parking posses a problem on campus. The campus is already limited in its parking on campus and since freshmen are allowed to have cars, the students before them are faced with the dilemma of how many new freshmen will be bringing a car to school.
When we are young, we all have our own unique dreams and aspirations for what we wish to do when we are “older.” As we grow older, we begin to realize that some of our dreams are unattainable, while others are able to achieve their dreams. There is a lot of pressure put on high school students to go to college. Junior and Senior year of high school all students hear is ‘where are you going to college’ and ‘what are you going to do with your life’. Such questions can be overwhelming and cause a lot of stress for students. It’s been put into everyone’s minds that in order to be successful you absolutely have to go to college and get a degree. Not every successful person went to college. The idea of college can put a lot of stress onto a person when they think it is the only way to be successful, but it is possible to be successful without a degree thus students should not be pressured into going to college as soon as they graduate high school.
As a low-income student in high school, I used my application fee waivers, to apply to four Cal State Universities and four University of California schools. I did not apply to any private universities, for the simple fact that I lacked guidance and information about the schools as well as the probability that I would be accepted to such schools. When I was denied from my top choice (the University of California, Los Angeles), I decided to attend the best school I was accepted to—the University of California, Santa Barbara. Society tells us that after high school we must go to college and get a degree if we want to obtain success. For me going to college was the goal ever since I was a small child. Should United States culture aim toward ensuring that everyone goes to college? Yes, United States should encourage everyone to go to college because it helps people get out of poverty and people explore in a career that could shape their lives. Some of the people want to have a good job in life and have a good salary to change their future. Additionally, college can help you become more independent and successful in life. Unless the country is willing to more fully fund higher education for all, ensuring that everyone goes to college is a dream.
