Hybrid Class: Fair or Unfair? One of the hardest things a pre-nursing student may encounter is a hybrid class. Generally speaking, the classes with more credit hours meet either two days a week or three days a week. The hybrid class meets one day a week for the same amount of time as someone that goes two days a week and gets double the material to study for. Trying to get into nursing school is stressful already and putting a more fast-paced class that meets only one day a week does not make matters any better. Therefore, hybrid classes should be chosen by the student so that everyone can obtain information at the speed and level that they so choose. The source of the problem begins with scheduling classes. Because of the high quantity …show more content…
The usual class for Anatomy and Physiology, meets either two or three times a week and is taught at a slower pace. No matter what type of learner someone is, it is not exactly fair that a class that does not meet as often and is way ahead of everyone else. If everyone is after the same goal-nursing school in this situation- then everyone should be going the same speed and learning the same things. The Anatomy and Physiology course in the hybrid class, usually meets three times total then takes an exam on five chapters. Anatomy and Physiology is such a detailed yet broad subject that not even one chapter can be completely taught in one class. That leaves the student to teach the rest of the information to themselves. When you mix all of the other courses with a hybrid class, that makes for one stressed out …show more content…
Looking at the advisors perspective, it allows them to see how well the student works in that class. It is a much more challenging course and if the individual can succeed in that class, it looks good. Also, with how small the school is, it is easier to put someone where it is readily available to put them in instead of having to plan out more. If students do well in a hybrid class then of course they can continue to take that class, but that is if they do well. From personal experience, a hybrid class is too much to take on. There is not enough class time for students to grasp the information. It should be left up to the student if they want to take on a hybrid
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs strive to prepare student nurses for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) that tests not only pure knowledge, but the reasoning and application of that knowledge. These programs provide student nurses with the necessary knowledge base and ability to apply knowledge in practice; especially since the introduction of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) has been integrated into didactics. EBP, along with hours of clinical placement, benefits student nurses by arming them with the clinical judgment skills called for in the workplace. However, if student nurses accrue more focused clinical hours in their areas of specialty, they will be better prepared for the situations they will face in their careers in which simulation labs or nonspecific clinical settings fail to adequately prepare them. With more hours spent in specialty areas, student nurses will be able to establish higher degrees of mental preparedness and hands-on experience as well as understanding of the difficulties and demands of working as a nurse in a specific field as opposed to shifting between various focuses of nursing.
As doctoral students begin the process of becoming psychologists, many questions are posited to them during the first months of their academic studies; one of which is what theoretical orientation are you most drawn to? The question is simple, but only on the surface; the underlying complexity of the theories behind the orientations must be well understood. Therefore, the student must make the effort to research the history, the application, and the science behind each of the major orientations used within psychology, in order to determine which orientation is most inline with their preference and beliefs involving different treatments for psychological issues. The three main theoretical orientations include, the psychodynamic
Elective classes can help with life skills. Cooking classes or home-ec are classes that can teach students life skills to use later.. They are skills that can be valuable to some career choices. Also, students can learn what they would want to become for their careers. If a student takes a class like Law and Justice, they can learn whether it is something that interests them or not. With more elective classes it would give more of these opportunities to introduce different career clusters to students. They would know their passions. Many time students go to college thinking they know their career, but more classes could expose students to more job opportunities. It wasttes money when students change their career in college because they have to take additional classes and some of the classes they took wont be helpful in their new decision to change careers. Evidently, more classes prepares students for life and their future career
Nursing students at State University need better clinical experiences and better clinical sites. Clinical sites that have nothing to do or preceptors who don’t want to educate should be cut out and replaced with better sites. Ideally each clinical should allow nursing students to gain experience in critical skills and patient ca...
He normally feels somewhat in the minority in doubting dual credit classes. Dual credit is quickly developing across the country. Lydic research shows that nationally; dual credit has grown seven percent per year since 2002. In result this increase has made over four million high school students taking over two million courses. Lydia goes on to explain why it is not hard to understand why these courses are so popular. At most schools, they are offered free or at a nominal cost to the student. By offering these classes for a little to no cost Lydic adds “what parent doesn't love that?’ By saying this he shows that with these prices not many parents would say no? Also the classes are offered at the student’s very own high school, getting to gain a great amount of hours towards college while they are getting credit for high school too. Therefore, having the class on campus sometimes means that their own high school teacher is also there college teacher. By knowing their teacher, the student may seem a little more comfortable to interact with them.
During nursing school, we learn a lot about physical conditions that affect people. In clinicals, the majority of our time is spent in a hospital setting. It is important for student nurses to learn about all things
and they even gave suggestions what would more interesting for them to learn about if more classes were offered at variety of times. We found this question to be good in terms of collecting needed information. The data collected from this question can be helpful in offering a better and revised program.
Class size makes a huge impact on how the student learns. Along with many other things, there is more to the amount of kids in class than most people think. The quality one on one time is affected. Along with that, important questions that the students needs clarity on from the teacher might not be able to be answered because so many other students are in the room asking their own question. Students learn in their own ways. Teachers have to be flexible to how their students learn and in order to do that they need to know their students on a personal level. When class sizes are large, it effects students in negative ways in their learning.
I take my education very seriously, so I always aim and work towards a high academic standard. This means setting high goals for myself and working hard to my full potential. Through this mindset, I have consistently been an honour roll student while keeping up with extra-curricular activities. This school year is no exception. In fact, I am working even harder than before, using getting into the nursing program as my motivation. I have made up my mind and I know I want to do my nursing studies at this program, so I decided to only take courses in the program's nursing curriculum such as SOC 104, Understanding Society and PSY 102, Introduction to Psychology. So far, I am enjoying these classes the most. It is great to have a little taste of what Ryerson's and George Brown's nursing program is all about. So, I cannot wait to have the full experience in the near future. Thank you for taking your time to consider my application. If I get accepted, I will make sure I will not disappoint and become an active student who contributes greatly to George Brown College and Ryerson
In the beginning of the semester, I thought it would be enjoyable to take Anatomy and Physiology since I had already taken it in high school and actually received a high grade. I had heard from many students that this class is much harder in college and will often have a big lecture setting with more than three-hundred students, but I brushed this off and went into the classroom with a positive attitude. I quickly learned that big lectures were not the classes that I would succeed in, instead I preferred a small classroom setting where I am able to ask questions whenever needed. Throughout the semester, I also learned that I prefer online classes when it comes to mathematics and social sciences because they can be self-taught and I found myself often uninterested during the
For the students who do have a busy life, they might find it harder to attend a traditional classroom, so they have the option of taking online classes and making the classes fit around their time schedule. Another concern that some students might have is communication. Some students might not need to have a teacher in front of them and teach the course material to them, whereas some students might need the teacher teaching it to them.... ... middle of paper ...
As part of being an educator, helping all student achieve their full potential with their education, and to able to continue to be challenged academically. The school environment becomes student’s community where they learn how to make friends and to learn who they are as individuals. For children school is a social setting where they make their own choices, but unfortunately not all student receive the same social experience. Students with learning disabilities in some school are isolated from students their own age, take classes that are developed to meet the educational need. Their has been a shift in some school district, and instead of isolating students with learning disabilities they are integrated classroom. Integrated classroom are
There are three different paths a person can take to become a registered nurse, they can gain a licensure through hospital-based nursing schools, this was once the most popular way of becoming a nurse. Attain their associates degree in nursing (ADN), which is a two year degree offered by community colleges and hospital-based nursing schools that prepares individuals for a defined technical practice. These two routes however are quickly dissipating to a bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN), a four year degree offered at colleges and universities. A BSN prepares students to practice across all scopes of healthcare settings, this degree is meant to help students understand cultural, political, economic, and social issues affecting patients and healthcare
Maybe you 've been out of school for years, since you graduated from high school, but you 're thinking of going back to school, because a college degree might help you further your current career or provide a more fulfilling one. On the other hand, maybe you just graduated and are ready to go on to college. Maybe you started college once but never finished, but now you want to complete your degree. Regardless what the reason, you might want to consider getting your degree in a non-traditional way. There are at least six reasons hybrid learning environments might be better for you than a traditional classroom.
Whereas this solution has merit, it is often difficult to add additional classes to student schedules, and is unrealistic for schools to add the funding and teacher support this solution would necessitate. “Backers of time-honored electives ranging from band to consumer sciences fear they are being crowded out of the school day as districts, facing tougher state and federal requirements, devote more time and money to core academic subjects.” (Cavanagh, 2006)
