Scout is optimistic
“Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people's gardens, don't nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird"(90). In Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird many characters are pessimistic. Although Scout may act pessimistic at times in the novel, Scout is the most optimistic character in the novel because she looks for the positives in her life, and she thinks or acts positively towards others.
First of all, Scout is the most optimistic character in the novel because she looks for the positives in her life. For instance, at the end of the summer when Dill had to leave, Scout looked at the positive things in her life instead of getting upset about him leaving. “Dill left us early in September, to return to Meridian. We saw him off on the five o’clock bus and I was miserable without him until it occurred to me that I would be starting to school in a week. I never looked forward more to anything in my life”(15). To illustrate, Scout didn't really like Aunt Alexandra, but that doesn't mean she didn't try to think of her positively. “Aunt Alexandra was one of the last of her kind: she had river-boat, boarding school manners”(129). As you can see, Scout said that Aunt Alexandra has good manners. which means she thinks positively towards others. Another reason that Scout is the most optimistic character in the novel is that she acts positively towards others. For example, scout is polite towards others. “How are you Jean Louise?
