In the fast pace life of college students, eating healthy has become an inconvenience. Students tend to consume too much alcohol and low amounts of water. They also make it a priority to put health in the back of their mind to squeeze in that extra minute to study. Why do college students make it such a difficult process to be healthy when little steps are better than taking no steps? I am here to provide a couple of ways to increase your health for your busy college days and provide insight as to why and how students are neglecting their current health status. In an "Assessment of College Students," Blotnicky, Mann, and Joy, mention how eating habits can be influenced by the student’s environment (31). The students have to deal with the college environment for their first time, which means "they may be eating in university dormitories, or sharing meals with friends at local eateries or in students’ apartments" (Blotnicky, Mann, Joy 32). A study done by Stacey Finkelstein shows that when the participant heard what they were about to eat was 'healthy ' they were more likely to be less full (360). She concludes that "people make logical inferences that low-calorie food is less fulfilling than high-calorie food and thus overcompensate by eating too much of both healthy and unhealthy food" (Finkelstein, Fishbach 365). Food selection is important for the students. They have to believe they are making healthier choices on their own without any outside influences, or as Finkelstein and Fishbach would say, "social agents should make people feel that the choice to consume healthy foods was partially theirs"
