One of the first thing a freshman hears or thinks about when going to college is the legendary “freshman fifteen.” The freshman fifteen is defined as a fifteen pound average weight gain that happens during a student’s first year in college. This problem has affected many freshmen because it causes them to fear that they are going to gain weight when they go off to college, but the undetected truth of this case is that a lot of freshmen lose or gain under fifteen pounds. To solve this ongoing problem, colleges and universities should incorporate more healthy food items on campus, provide student cooking, and create fitness and wellness housing.
It is evident that the freshman fifteen is a social problem and health problem. Freshmen hear about it in tons of magazine, blogs, and articles. Parents and friends are all constantly presenting the issue by saying watch out for the freshman fifteen. This problem is caused by the increased amount of alcohol, fats, carbohydrates, fast food and cafeteria style food. It can lead students to be overweight, obese, and have many health problems. Students have the freedom to eat when, how, whenever they want, and there is no one to tell them what to eat or when freshman should stop. Going to college is a significant change from being in high school. Many times, being in a new environment and balancing classes can lead to the quickest and easiest eating options; these may not always be the best.

Many student might feel that the requirements and the time needed to be set aside for the activities and healthy living might take away from their academic studies. The factors of providing this option might end up in a bigger problem than solving it.
The legendary “freshman 15 “can now be renamed “myth 15 “. Since reports, statistics, and facts show that you really do not again 15 pounds your first year when you off to college. The problem is not properly categorized, is not relevant to the situation of weight gain but about creating a healthy lifestyle habits. College is the opportunity to explore and find your career path for the real world. Just like anything else you have to structure what you eat and know what you are putting in your body. Everything should be done in moderation.
