The effectiveness of an organization is a fluid process. The leadership of an organization is charged to continue the infinite work of surveying the cultural, economic and social terrain surrounding the organization and develop strategies and practices to navigate the anticipated changes. When the leadership fails to make these practices standard procedure for the organization, the demise of the organization is inevitable. Friendship Baptist Church has suffered such a dilemma.
Organizational Overview: Friendship Baptist Church
Friendship Baptist Church is a small, religious organization operating under the 501(c)3 Religious Non-Profit Organization as defined by the Internal Revenue Services. It was established in 1972 by Joseph Simpson. He also served as the organization’s first leader. This study is related to a case conducted at Faith Community Hospital to assess the problems due to issues with their mission statement and how it is being interpreted. According to the CEO of Faith Community Hospital, very few of the members and partners seem to be following the mission statement. There are issues with organizational processes, ethics issues, and communication systems. Many staff members are operating as individuals and not as a collective unit based on their values. A moment's distraction can result in a tragic outcome.
With any organization leadership is an essential key which ultimately determines the overall success or failure of an organization. In addition to leadership knowing the vision of the organization is important to ensure all members are working toward the same goal outlined in the organizations vision. “A good management control system stimulates action by spotting the significant variations from the original plan and highlighting them for the people who can set things right.” (Merchant, 1982) During this paper Servant Leadership, Hershey-Blanchard Leadership and vision will be discussed. Leadership is defined as the action of guiding an individual or group of people. Effective leaders shape the behavior and thought process of the individuals around them. As a result, the success of an organization is often impacted by the leadership style and approach of its leaders. Even when engaging with multiple people, impactful leaders maintain their own style of leadership but occasionally change their approach based on the motivational needs of each individual. However, regardless of the style, leadership within an organization is designed to drive the performance of their employees and it is done through proficient communication. This guidance influences the culture of an organization, which subsequently, helps to shape its leaders.
The vast number of evangelical Christians are opposed to homosexuality because it is a sin as defined by the Bible. While fewer than half of Americans say homosexuality is sinful, according to Lifeway research, "two-thirds of evangelicals say sex between two people of the same gender remains sinful, whether it is legal or not." That number rises to nearly 90 percent if the evangelical is a member of the clergy. Surprisingly, according to the Washington Post, blacks are even more likely to resist the homosexual agenda than with whites, even black democrats.
It may seem a little bit strange, but my favorite place in town in none other than this beautiful Evangelic Church. However, it wasn’t always so.
We cannot do anything without a team of staff and faithful members. We as the church must unify and come together around this single mission: to reach more souls with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Faith Community Hospital presently faces a variety of issues that are caused by a couple of problems. The first problem is the mission statement that is established at Faith Community Hospital. It is instilled in every member who works at the facility. The staff has gone so far as to include it on the back of everyone's business cards so that anyone who receives a card reads it as well. It is a mission statement that when it was implemented was well intended and supposed to unify everyone at Faith Community Hospital but has caused problems instead. The second problem is the lack of concrete organizational policies or guidelines involving certain practices at the hospital. In some cases, both the misinterpretation of the mission statement and the lack of concrete organizational policies and/or guidelines are the reasons behind certain actions by personnel, which in turn jeopardizes the institution.
For my observation trip, I decided to visit St. Ignatius Church in Oregon, Ohio. I visited a mass at 11:30 on Sunday November 19. I decided to visit a catholic church because my family has no religious background whatsoever, and I decided that I could go with one of my good friends that way if I need to ask questions, she was there to answer them for me.
Organizations are social arrangement. If anyone desires to work in them or to administer them, it is essential to know how they function. Organizations combine science and people – technology and humanity. Unless we have qualified people to design and implement, techniques alone will not produce desirable results.
