Career and College Research Paper
I have always aspired to be a chiropractor. Chiropractors treat patients with health problems of the neuromusculoskeletal system including the nerves, bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. They use spinal adjustments as well as manipulation, usually on the neck back (“Summary”). I chose to go down the path of chiropractic practice because I have always been interested in it. It is important to understand the education and training requirements, skills and talents needed, salary and benefits offered, and the duties while making your career choice a chiropractor.
Chiropractors tend to work in offices and hospitals although most chiropractors are self employed so they have their own building that they treat

patients in. The work hours for this career vary. Part time is usually twenty to thirty hours a week, working four to six hours a day. Full time is when you work for more than thirty hours in a week. Considering chiropractors can be self employed they basically decide when they want to work so they cannot really be labeled as part or full time workers. Chiropractors are located world- wide. In this career, using my hands is a big factor. I have to adjust the spine and many other bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons with only my hands so in my opinion, I feel as if my hands are the most important thing. The daily routine consists of talking to patients, deciding what is the best for them, doing my job and fixing the problem, also be interpersonal so they will feel as if I am trying my absolute best and show empathy so they will keep coming back to my services. Being in this field I need to always be on my game because I cannot hurt someone more than they already are. The median annual salary for a chiropractor is $140,137. Depending on several factors, they can make anywhere from $57 to $93 an hour. According to statistics, 50% of people in the U.S. make less than the annual salary. In the state of Oklahoma, base salary ranged from $117,673 to $135,953 (“Salary.com, Site Built By:. "Chiropractor Salaries."). Athletic trainers and most therapist make around the same amount of money as chiropractors. Employment of chiropractors is predicted to grow seventeen percent from 2014 to 2024. This statistic is more immense than the average for all occupations. More people are beginning to become more interested in the chiropractic field because it is becoming appealing to patients ("Summary : Occupational Outlook Handbook: : U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics."). The reasoning for this is because people think it is neat that everything is nonsurgical and so much can get fixed by it. For this specific field I feel as if I need to have a great personality and amazing character traits.
I need to be able to make every situation as elucidate as possible. By that being said I need to be very precise, have temerity, affable, observant, exuberant, and dependable. I plan to make my patients feel as comfortable as I can so they will keep coming back to me. Being a patient of someone else would allow me to know what I need to do and what I do not need to do as a chiropractor.
After high school I want to further my career at the Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City. There tuition all together will be around $30,213. With the price of college being so high I will need to apply for any scholarships I can. About 75% qualify for financial aid. This college is well known and is very helpful in this career field. I think I will enjoy furthering my career of my dreams there.
For Cleveland Chiropractic College I will be taking six hours of english or communications, three hours of psychology, twelve hours of humanities and/or social sciences, twenty-four hours of life and physical sciences, and eight hours of general and organic chemistry. I will be attending for my doctorate degree and it is projected to take seven years. I plan to work my hardest in college so I can fulfill my hopes of being a
chiropractor. Another factor for this college is my ACT score and my grade point average. In order to be able to attend this college I must have the high score of a twenty-one or higher on my ACT as well as a 2.50 grade point average. In college, I must keep my grade point average at a 3.0 grade point average. I also must have completed four units of english, three units of natural science, three units of math, and three units of social science. This school year I need to really buckle down and get my ACT score up. I plan attend several more ACT workshops so I can get get the twenty-one I need. To make this possible I need to focus more on school and do what is best for myself. I have set those goals for myself so that it is possible to get into the college I want to attend. Before I graduate I would like to have a 4.0 grade point average
“The doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet and in the cause and prevention of disease” by Thomas A. Edison. Chiropractors use hands-on spinal manipulation and other alternative treatments on the spine which will enable the body to heal itself without surgery or medication. Chiropractic care began in 1895 when its founder, Daniel David Palmer, claimed any and all diseases could be healed by nothing more than just his hands. Dr. Palmer examined a janitor who was deaf for 17 years after the janitor felt his back was out of place, so Dr. Palmer gave an adjustment to what was felt to be a misplaced vertebra in the upper back. The janitor then observed that his hearing improved thanks to Dr. Palmer. Chiropractors use manipulation to restore mobility to joints restricted by tissue injury caused by sitting without proper back support. Chiropractic is primarily used as a pain relief alternative for muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissue, such as cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. About 22 million Americans visit chiropractors annually

The word “chiropractor” has two word origins, the Greek words cheir and praxis; meanwhile, cheir means “hand” and praxis means “practice.” Also, most of the work that chiropractors do is done by hand (Pike para. 5). In 2002, going to a chiropractor was found to be the most commonly used program for therapy. Seventy-four percent, about 4 million, of people that had back pain went to a chiropractor to get treated. Among that 74 percent of people, 66 percent of them stated that they got “a great benefit” (Pike para. 9). Many chiropractors work full time but 1 out of 3 chiropractors work part time. Due to more physicians hold the degree of MD than the DO's degree, few people recognize Osteopathic Physicians.
No matter what field I begin in, ER, maternity or intensive care. I will work as diligently and as efficiently as I could. It would not matter whether I had the day or night shift or if I was walking out the door to go home and a patient came in and needed help. Every patient that I work with will know I have the intention of helping them as well as I can. My personality is a “Persuader” which means I am most sociable of all

According to Massage Today “Massage therapy is recognized as one of the oldest methods of healing, with references in medical texts nearly 4,000 years old”. I feel that the benefit of rubbing aching muscles and hurt limbs comes to us as naturally as breathing air. Among its many purposes and advantages, massage soothes achy muscles, helps heal injuries, strengthens baby’s muscles and relieves stress. To me, massage is not only a way to soothe the muscles and relieve the everyday stresses of society, massage is a way to connect with others through the common practice of touch. We have needed touch in our lives since the first seconds after our birth, so it’s not surprising that we would seek out touch in the form of massage.
Veterinary acupuncture is an ancient art practiced and refined in China for thousands of years. Acupuncture has been used on animals for over 4000 years. Legend has it that veterinary acupuncture was discovered when lame horses used in battle were found to become sound after being hit by arrows at distinct points. In any event, there is evidence that Chinese "horse priests", the caretakers of the army's horses, practiced acupuncture during the Zang and Chow Dynasties around 2000-3000 BC. Numerous texts on veterinary acupuncture and old engravings of cows and horses, on which acupuncture points have been marked, are dated back to as early as 221 BC.
Did you know that massage has been used as a therapy to ease human aches and pains and create relaxation for thousands of years. The instinct to rub and stroke muscles that are tense and tired has been refined and studied so that massage therapy performed by a professionally trained practitioner can promote health and well being, relieve stress and help heal injured areas of your body. WHAT IS MASSAGE THERAPY GOOD FOR? Have you thought about seeking massage therapy for healing or relaxation?
Physical therapists are health care professionals that provide therapeutic services to their patients who have temporary or chronic physical conditions that were caused from injury or disease. Physical therapist also provided therapeutic services to patients after they have gone through surgery to help them gain back mobility and manage their pain. They can also work in preventive care by promoting healthy life styles and instructing individual patients or groups on preventing injury by using exercises that stretch and strengthen muscles. To help their patients try to recover they use massage techniques, wellness plans, and different types of equipment. When a physical therapist sees a patient for the very first time they must do an examination, evaluation, diagnosis, and then put together a physical intervention to start the rehabilitation process. They also work as a team with other health care professionals to help with their patients needs. Physical therapist can really make a difference in their patient’s lives by not only providing therapeutic services but also encouraging and motivating them so they can get better. The main goals of physical therapist are to help their patients retain or gain back lost physical mobility, eliminate or reduce pain, increase productivity and help promote a healthy life style so patients can have a better quality of life and become more independent.
Not only pain in the lower back but also from knees, feet and legs can be relieved. The satisfaction and the benefits of seeking chiropractic treatment is far more than that from a traditional medical hospital. Improved joint movements Emphasizing on health of joints and body movements, at the same time checking on the health of the spine is what a chiropractor does in order to achieve optimum fitness and health. Chiropractic Manipulative Treatment can also be tried to help a patient’s progress towards recovery. Soft tissues, ligaments, tendons and muscles surrounding the joints are also worked on by a chiropractor to enhance the benefits of manipulation.
