Canadian pension, the plan that promises to provide a set income once retirement, passed during 1965 in order to make an effort for those who have great losses and are struggling with finance after retirement due to the great depression, disability, and death costs. The Canadian Pension Plan was used to help reduce the poverty levels in Canada when it was noticed that the poverty rate at an old age reached 72.5%. After the Canadian pension plan passed laws during 1965, the poverty rate of seniors reduced by 30% by 1976. It is clear to see how within a decade the poverty level has decreased by 52.5% thus further proving the efficiency of the Canadian Pension plan. This means that Canadians can enjoy the rest of their lives without work and can use the pension money for all their necessities and luxuries thus further providing the youth more opportunities for jobs, overall increasing their quality of life for the better. It was a very important period for Canada; it was where they gained their independence and progressed as a country. After this century, Canada was considered an important and powerful country. The three main 20th century events in Canadian history are the battle of Vimy Ridge, the change of woman’s rights and the battle of Juno Beach.
The liberals introduced an old age pension for people over seventy years old and with no other income. They also introduced a married couples pension. Pensions were not a new thing but the most radical thing about these pensions was that they were entirely government funded. The pension was not incredibly large and the average working class person did not live to be 70 but for those who did the pension made them independent. The confederation of Canada, a process which took over a century long, with many notable events and people who were involved in forming what we know as Canada today. The confederation all started in 1763, with The Royal Proclamation. Britain decided that pacifying First nation was the best alternative to a costlier war. This proclamation created a boundary between the First Nations and the British Colonies. In the next 50 years or so, the Quebec Act, which revoked the Royal Proclamation, and Treaty of Paris, which recognized British North America to independently exist, and the Constitutional Act, happened. Although these were major events in Canada’s history, The War of 1812, was one of the most notable events that lead to Canada’s Confederation.
