The benefits of mind power It is very easy for someone to lose his concentration, or again, be a victim of memory loss; nobody has control over these two phenomena. But one must admit that concentration and other flaws that can prevent our brain to work as wished, can sometimes make our lives difficult. Imagine how it must be for actors and motivational speakers, who have to rely on their minds all the time; they excel in their vocation, but there are human too, so even they can suffer from some dysfunction such as: lack of concentration, fatigue, and restlessness or again, they simply let their emotions take over everything else. Indulging in coffee or other stimulants is out of the question, for those who wish to have long term benefits of mind power. The truth is, there are simple and beneficial ways to achieve mind power. And everyone would agree that the mind is the most powerful tool, when it comes to great achievements or being able to handle our everyday lives. More concentration is great, during a lecture for instance; considering that theoretical contents from books are better understood when explained by a lecturer. So concentration is key to learning.

The more effort we use in studying the better results we will get. Certain people have a hard time comprehending school work from the first grade to throughout high school. For example, in the article “Saved,” the life of Malcolm X, the reader is told about Malcolm’s struggle with learning .One problem he had was he couldn’t write or read his own hand writing. The way he began to overcome his handicap was that he would copy and memorize words from the dictionary. When he entered prison he was illiterate. He could neither read nor write. Later on, to help his reading comprehension, he would spend time in the prison library. Spending an hour every day in the library helped to increase his comprehension.

Confucius compares education to the sculpting of marble. He said, "Just as the sculptor is to the marble, so is education to the soul. It releases it. For only educated men are free men." I see college as an irreplaceable time in my life when I can begin my journey to find the freedom that Confucius so eloquently describes. While in college, I want my education to bring me face to face with the awesome power of the human spirit and the human mind working together to achieve the beautiful and the revolutionary.
The first sin of memory is insufficient attention, which leads to absent-mindedness. Research has suggested that a great deal of forgetting occurs because insufficient attention is devoted to a particular stimulus during the time of encoding or retrieval, which causes information to be processed in a very superficial manner. When forgetting is associated with lapses of attention during the encoding or retrieval process, it is referred to as an error of absent-mindedness (Reason and Mycielska 1982). Absent-mindedness during the encoding stage is held to be the source of everyday memory failures such as forgetting where one placed their car keys or other objects. These types of encoding failures take place when actions are carried out automatically and attention is focused elsewhere (Cheyne et al. 2006; Reason and Mycielska 1982). This type of absent-mindedness has been demonstrated in cognitive studies, which have found that dividing attention at the time of encoding results in poor subsequent memory of the target information (Craik et al. 1996).
... all, everyone is different in their own respective way and some people might have the ability to simply comprehend all they hear, unlike myself I feel like I teach myself more on my own or with others than if I were sitting down and taking notes. The only problem with just listening during a lecture is that people don’t retain all that information over a long period of time. Most of the information is stored in the brain until that test comes and all the information leaves when you hand in the test.

Fundamentally, development of the brain is an immense determinant of someone’s ability to learn. Therefore, the success of most learning patterns will be premised upon this notion of brain development. Other aspects of learning involves practice, teaching methods applied, the complexity of the concepts being taught and so forth. Nonetheless, the effectiveness of these other methods is dependent upon the brain of the learner. People have different levels of brain development. This manifests itself in the different abilities of learning. Some are poor learners whereas others learn pretty fast (Iba & Miyake, 2010).
This one being your first year in college, you may have trouble concentrating while you study. Some techniques that can help your concentration are being selective, relaxing, and over learning. Being selective means to make choices about what is most important to learn. When you are studying, you should be able to know what may or may not be on the test, your notes for the week can be helpful. In addition, pay attention to charts, tables, and illustrations that you think may appear on the test. Relaxing is a good technique to use because when you are relaxed you are able to absorb more information. One way to relax is to use a breathing technique (inhale, count from one to ten, and exhale, and count from one to ten, and so on). Over learning can help you fight mental vagueness. When you are struggling in a class, it is best for you to learn more than you need to know about the subject. You can use these techniques every time you are studying or when you cannot concentrate.
Examination of this question requires methods to assess levels of mindfulness to determine whether individuals engaged in the practice of mindfulness are in fact becoming more mindful over time, and if so, whether these increases are responsible for the positive outcomes observed. Mindfulness is beneficial for the individual well-being and more specifically – positive affect (определение) (Glomb). + Chambers.Brown and Ryan found that Mindful capacity varies among people and can be sharpened or dulled by a variety of factors. Current research is about investigating individual differences in mindfulness and their relationship with one’s
The Theory of Mind-Body Dualism is the view that there are two different kinds of things or substances that make up human beings: a physical body and a non-physical mind or soul. “Many dualist believe that a materialistic account of the mind is insufficient to explain everything we want to about the nature of mind and that the mind can be ‘embodied’ or ‘disembodied’” (Mind Body Dualism 1 Notes). Two famous arguments that breaks down dualism a little is The Argument from Conceivability says that the mind can exist without a body like a “disembodied mind” and the body cannot exist without a mind. And The Argument from Divisibility saying the mind cannot be identified with body because the body is divisible while the mind is indivisible.
Mindfulness is arguably one of the best things a human can do when it comes to relieving stress. Some can argue that that the best way to relieve stress would be to exercise or consume alcohol, but mindfulness is different in the fact that a person can stay focused without being judgemental (Davis & Hayes, 2010). This is critical when it comes to relieving stress because college can mentally weigh a person down. If a post-secondary student is able to effectively use mindfulness based stress reduction, this could help relieve the stress and prevent future problems such as depression or anxiety. Although there are many methods in relieving stress, mindfulness based stress reduction is a beneficial method in relieving college students’ stress
All of us would love to have personal power, the power to manifest our dreams, the power to remain calm and loving in the face of fear, and the power to stay centered in ourselves in the face of attack.
In the past two decades, many philosophers, spiritual leaders, and psychological transitions have accentuated the importance of the quality of consciousness for the maintenance and enhancement of well-being. One of the characteristics of consciousness that has been discussed in relation to well-being is mindfulness. In concentration with the psychology discipline, mindfulness meditation practices have been increasingly used to treat a majority of pain, stress and anxiety-related conditions and also, increasing well-being. The ideology of mindfulness meditation has core roots in Buddhist philosophy and other pensive traditions where awareness and conscious attention are actively cultured (Brown, Kirk Warren,2003).
Reduces distractions: In effecting time management, every task is time-allocated which leaves little or no time for anything outside what has been penned down on the “To-Do” list. Distractions are easily spotted and avoided.
It worked for me to an extinct like I had to basically form an alliance or network of people who were in my classes to get myself to stay focused and sometimes help them stay focused. I used to think i needed a small pill in order to get through a tough test or stay up all night cramming all the information I need for the test the next day. But I learned if instead of cramming i studied at the library for an hour a day I would do a lot better than cramming. Although we have spended a handful of nights staying up till studying and going over our study guides. In my opinion the skills we learned in this course are skills we will know and use for years to
