When I hear professional goals the first thing that comes to mind is the purpose of choosing the nursing profession and what I want to achieve. This profession has been my passion and I decided to advance my education to be able to function in a higher capacity, mostly helping the underserved population. Considering that nurses job description comprises of total nursing care at the bedside and providing quality care, but an advanced nurse practitioner acquired a higher knowledge and provide care that helps with disease prevention and health promotion. (Buppert, 2018). Documented that “Nurse practitioners are registered professional nurse who is prepared, through advanced graduate education and clinical training to provide a range of health …show more content…
I will sit for my Advanced Nurse practitioner (ANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification examination and achieve a passing grade. The ANP certification is one of the requirements needed to obtain a job as an advanced nurse practitioner. Family practice is my area of interest or women’s health to help educate this population on communicable diseases and its contribution to infertility. The long-term goals could be achieved through continuous education such as the web in service, online seminars, Webinars, conferences, current and evidence based practice will be maintained. Prevention and promotion of health will be achieved by educating our patients, especially the vulnerable and underserved populations. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle which includes reducing stress, eating a balanced diet, exercising at least 30 minutes daily and going to the gym, and getting enough rest is needed to help me function effectively. The Advance Nurse Practitioner (ANP) are faced with heavy workload because of physician shortage and the increased incidence of chronic diseases. Therefore, the ANP plays an essential role to manage the illness and educate affected individuals appropriately (Hamric, Hanson, Tracy, & O’Grady,
The role of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) in health care has been identified as a critical role in the goal to provide high-quality health care. APRNs have a bigger role to play in the health care system and it is important that students are provided with relevant and valuable knowledge as well as experience that improve their abilities. Achieving course objectives are critical for APRNs with the goal of contributing positively to the health care system. As a future APRN, I place high priority on life-long learning and the development of other people’s skill sets. All duties associated with health care require a dedication to excellence and selflessness. These are two components of learning that will improve the capabilities of
I plan to pursue a career in nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. This career take many steps to complete. But it is different routes you can take and different programs you can enroll in for this profession. Family Nurse Practitioners can prescribe medication and diagnose patients and give treatment. They can work either in hospitals and or clinics as a primary healthcare provider. They can also order specific x-rays and test that need to be done for a patient. The nurse practitioners interact with less patients in a clinic than in a hospital. Np’s have privileges to prescribe medications in every state.
Nurse practitioners (NPs), one type of advanced practice nurses, are licensed by the states where they practice and certified by private boards. Nurse practitioners hold advanced degrees in clinical practice and function in a wide variety of settings and across the life span. They provide a broad array of healthcare services ranging from managing treatment plans, to prescribing medications, to implementing health promotion services. As of 2014, 205,000 NPs were licensed in the United States with 86% of those prepared to deliver care to patients in primary care settings (NP Facts, 2015). The progression of the Nurse Practitioner movement that occurred in the 1960 and 1970s emerged as a creative and
o Type of healthcare worker: Nurse practitioner o When this type of work entered the market: The medical profession of nurse practitioner was developed in the mid 1960s. The job of nurse practitioners grew from implementing work from primary care physicians into that of traditional nurses. o Reasons for creation and growth: In the late 1950s and early 1960s, increased specialization amongst physicians was taking place, which led to many doctors exploring other avenues of medicine, resulting in a large shortage of physicians practicing primary care. This left many rural and inner city areas with very limited access to medical care.
A nurse practitioner (NP) is one who is qualified to treat certain medical conditions without the direct supervision of a doctor. Also known as a registered nurse. (RN)
Nursing is a knowledge-based profession within the health care sector that focuses on the overall care of individuals. According to The American College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP), “defines nurse practitioners as registered nursed who have received graduate-leveling nursing education and clinical training, which enables them to provide a wide range of preventative and acute health care services to individuals of all ages. They deliver high-quality, cost effective care, often performing physical examinations, ordering tests, making diagnoses, and prescribing and managing medication and therapies”. Nurse Practitioners are able to specialize in a particular area, such as family and adult practice, pediatrics, and women’s health; and refer patients to other specialist when necessary. Some Nurse practitioners work under the supervision of a physician; while others run their own practices.
Educational preparation for the advanced practice public health nurse includes at least a Master’s degree and is based on an integration of current knowledge and research in public health, nursing, and other scientific preparations. In addition to executing the functions of the generalist in population-focused nursing, the specialist retains clinical experience in political and legislative activities, delivering and evaluating service, organizing, interdisciplinary planning, community empowerment, and assuming a leadership role in interventions that have a positive effect on the health of the community. Certification examinations for advanced practice nurses are rewarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
Healthcare is a continuous emerging industry across the world. With our ever changing life styles and the increased levels of pollution across the world more and more people are suffering from various health issues. Nursing is an extremely diverse profession and among the highest educated with several levels ranging from a licensed practical nurse (LPN) to a registered nurse (RN) on up to a Doctorate in Nursing. Diane Viens (2003) states that ‘The NP is a critical member of the workforce to assume the leadership roles within practice, education, research, health systems, and health policy’.
Defining the role of an advanced nurse practitioner (ANP) is complex and commonly open to interpretation. Internationally there are many variances in what the role of the advanced practitioner entails, and the characteristics of individual roles are often shaped by the country and particular speciality in which they are practising (Mantzoukas & Watkinson 2006), (Sheer & Wong 2008), (Stasa et al 2014), (ICN 2008), (Dalton 2013), (NHS Wales 2010), (Haidar 2014), (Lowe et al 2011), (Pearson 2011).
When implemented the Clinical Nurse Consultant Research, nursing will be improve in other directions and not only patient care but the skill, knowledge and critical thinking of the nurse.
(Ellis & Hartley, 2012). Advance nurse practitioner education programs should have strong bases in research, health care delivery, human diversity, health promotion and disease prevention, physical assessment, pharmacology and pathophysiology. By the completion of a master program, I think is essential for each student to possess the ability to accurately assess, plan, intervene and evaluate the health and illness of their patients. The scope of practice for advance nurse practitioners will and should be different based on the role and population in focus. The scope of practice for nurse anesthetist is different compared to a psychiatric nurse specialist.
Advanced Practice nursing (APN) is considered the usage of a broader scope of constructive, logical and research-based expertise related to the health and well-being of patients, within a varying disciplines (DeNisco & Barker, 2013). What is the future position of APNs in the progression of our healthcare system? What role will this writer assume, educator, practitioner, population health coach, or all three? The use of theory, primarily Sister Callista Roy’s Adaptation Model, and EBP give this writer a firm foundation to develop and modify her own practice framework.
The first key message that is discussed is that nurses should practice to the fullest extent of their education and training. Most of the nurses that are in practice are registered nurses. Advanced nurse practitioners are nurses that hold a master’s or doctoral degree and include nurse midwifes, clinical nurse specialists, nurse practitioners, and nurse anesthetists and consist of about two hundred and fifty thousand of the nurses currently working today. Advanced practice nurses are limited to what
In this life, it is important to me to feel like I have a purpose, a reason for being alive. Living a life that inspires others, empowers and encourages people, promotes health and education and allows me to leave my mark, my legacy, is how I measure success. That is my goal in becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner. I have been a nurse for over ten years, having the opportunity to work with patients in a variety of settings through nursing school and afterwards including rehabilitation, medical surgical, pediatrics, labor and delivery, intensive care, and most recently at a day surgery center working with patients before, during and after surgery. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, I see myself teaching and leading people towards successes,
