Throughout time there have been many notable stories that have similar topics. An example of this would be Dante's inferno and Dickens's A Christmas Carol. Although both of these stories may be well known to many people, not many will take the time to think about the stark similarities and differences of both of these stories. In this essay we will cover a few differences and a few similarities of these two highly beloved stories. And although these stories were written in two starkly different time periods, we will see how some problems never change and how both of these characters are to face these problems may they be different approaches or similar. In both tales, a complex story is told but how these stories are told are very different. To start off A Christmas Carol is a novella versus Inferno being a poem written in cantos. Although both stories follow the same idea in a way, the form that they are presented in is starkly different from one another. A Christmas Carol is in novella form and this format is a short novel or a long short story. Whereas Inferno is written as a divine comedy in a long narrative poem format written in cantos. In A Christmas Carol Marley, Ebeneezer's friend and business partner sent three spirits; the ghost of christmas past, the ghost of christmas present, and the ghost of christmas future; to help guide Ebeneezer into a path where he would no long be causing self destruction. With Dante’s story inferno Virgil, a poet well revered, was sent by Beatrice to help guide Dante through the circles of hell to ensure that Dante wouldn’t be condemned to spend eternity in hell where he does not belong. Although they both have guiding characters in A Christmas Carol the guide is sent by Ebeneezer's friend but in Inferno the guide is sent by Dante’s love
