How often have you been stuck in traffic, and gotten frustrated and angry because you were going to be late to your destination? Well, I used to have that happen to me, but then I started looking at the bright side. Most people think traffic jams are mundane and boring, However, I think they are pretty fun and can be a cool way to meet new people. In general, people get very mad when they’re caught in a traffic jam. I, personally, think this is because they just want to get to their destination, but the traffic jam ends up slowing them down. However, there are different ways to make traffic jams a pretty enjoyable experience. Though there are a couple requirements to make traffic jams entertaining. Firstly, you must get lucky with your traffic …show more content…
I can’t tell you the amount of awesome people I’ve met, and have added on Snapchat to converse with, through traffic jams. Usually it is the college students that are the most fun to meet and talk to. This is probably because they’re not old enough to be frustrated all the time, but they’re not too young to the point where their mom will yell at them to quit talking to strangers. Once you meet people, if the traffic is bad enough, you can just chat with them for a little while until the line gets moving. I’ve even yelled back and forth to people on the complete other side of the interstate before, you just have to be willing to put yourself out there and make …show more content…
This one is harder to pull off because, while they’re usually willing to chat it up with you, people sometimes won’t want to dance in their car where a lot of people can see them. However, there are quite a few times where people will be up for it. If you can get one person to join you, try getting a whole bunch of cars. One time on my way up to Denver, I got five or six different cars to join in and it was beautiful. Once you get that many cars to do it, the possibilities are actually endless. At that point, you can get even the grumpiest of drivers to crack a smile and be happy. Now, you can always be a normal person and play on your phone or take a nap during a traffic jam. However, what if you’re the driver? The methods I just listed above work for the person driving the vehicle as well, which is awesome. While driving to a restaurant in Denver with my cousin, we got stuck due to a car accident a little farther ahead of us, and these methods of talking to strangers helped us feel less frustrated and made it seem as if traffic was smooth the whole
The most noticeable inconvenience of driving in Miami is traffic congestion. In fact, because the highways are cluttered with a significant amount of vehicles carpooling is encouraged. For this purpose, high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes were formed. Each weekday, a simple twenty-minute drive turns into an eternal wait for forward progress. With each minute that goes by cars advance less than twenty feet. And while the traffic may open up in some areas, in its entirety I-95 remains congested during the morning and evening hours, as seen in the image where cars on the South Florida Highways line up bumper-to-bumper. The cause for such highway clutter varies, but it is interesting to note the difficulty in explaining highway driving conditions. It is uncertain as to whether the accidents cause traffic congestion or the traffic congestion causes accidents. Either way, the main roads and highways commuters take to work are crowded with drivers. Furthermore, I-95 passes through several commercial districts in the lower Miami area. Many large trucks and commercial vehicles, as well as passenger vehicles, drive to work at these commercial areas. The weekday traffic congestions on the Miami roadways are, in large part, a major inconvenience to commuters, all with intent to arrive early to work.
The Harvard Center of Risk Analysis preformed a study, they studied the road and people who text while they drive. Results show that texting behind the wheel causes 330,000 injuries and 2,600 deaths a year. People who talk or text on the phone are just as impaired or even more impaired as a drunk driver. A study was performed at the University of Utah, it shows that the participants crashed when they were texting while driving but when they were intoxicated, they did not crash. This shows that texting while driving takes your focus off of the road and into the conversation you are having on the phone. Also, the University of Utah has proven that hand free devices do not make driving any safer. But, driving with passengers and talking to them makes drivers safer. Passengers help inform drivers of possible risks on the
Traffic is a major problem in Hawaii. Traffic can cause many problems including making travel difficult, creating health problems, wasting resources, and reducing the quality of life. On average, people waste a month of their life on the road in traffic, and Hawaii was ranked third in the nation for worst traffic.
You never know what emergencies might crop up while you’re on the road. Traffic school courses give you the rundown on what to do if you ever find yourself in a difficult situation, like any of the following:
Even if just one person puts their phone down and concentrates on the road and not where the party is or who they got a snapchat from that is one less possible accident.
At any moment, there are nearly 700,000 people multi-tasking while driving, a danger to everyone on the
Having speed limits can save a lot of lives, I definitely approve of making sure that drives operate their cars at a moderate speed. Imagine the fear of driving on the expressway and having a lot of cars zoom past you at a high rate of speed. Limits on speed should be enforced for several reasons. All cities need speed limits because going over the speed limit can have a lot of negative outcomes. It can increase the number of tickets, cause accidents, and reduce safety in our neighborhoods.
Secondly, it was quite shocking to see that there were not much social interactions between commuters and that they mainly kept to themselves. This could be due to the fact that they just finished work and after a long day of interacting with people, they need some time to themselves in order to recuperate. Secondly it could be due to the fact that many people are introverted when faced with a new group of people that they do not know. This sociological phenomenon can be placed into many different scenarios. One can be placed within a supermarket. Many shoppers that go into a supermarket are two of the three groups that was observed within the bus. People that come in with a group of people and have social interactions with their friends and those who have a list and want to be in an out as fast as possible. Secondly, this can be applied to the DMV as well. When sitting at a DMV, the same two groups can be identified. These social interactions are present everywhere we go and has given me insight on human social behavior. When looking at humans, they thrive off of human interactions between each other, but when they are faced with a scenario in which they are not comfortable with, they put up a barrier in order to protect themselves. This can be dated back to the prehistoric times of the cavemen. When looking at social
Like many things if you tell someone to not do something then they’ll turn around and do it. “Over the past several years, even while new texting laws are taking effect globally, texting and driving rates have only increased.”(Abolish Driving While Texting Laws for Safety; drive-safely.net) People seem to think that the world will end if they don’t check their phones every five minutes, and if you must check your phone do it at a stop light. Another very efficient way to still answer people back while driving is giving your phone to the passenger or using Bluetooth instead of taking a hand off of the steering wheel or tilting your head to your shoulder. If need be at the next stop light send a quick text to whoever it is telling them that you are driving and will get back to them later. “There aren’t enough police on patrol to catch everyone who’s breaking the law. Taking personal responsibility for our own actions is the key to all of this” says US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. (TWD;
Speaking on a cell phone is an anti-social activity because it puts the lives of others at risk. It doesn't matter how well we drive, if another driver is not being as professional or as careful, especially using a phone and splitting his/her attention, we are put in danger by their actions. Talking on a phone while driving reduces the competence level to control the vehicle as well as increasing the response time to any danger.
Some would say that speed limits are not adequate, or certain laws should be changed. Reports have shown that the majority of Americans have no problem with speed limits or the laws; new drivers are not helping either. There are key things that are liable for joining or causing road rage. For example; loud music, honking the horn, tailgating, and changing lanes without signaling all have been known to increase tension while driving. The actual causes can be traced back to different forms of stress. Such as being called into the boss' office for discussion of work performance, making bad grades in school, or having just been dumped by your girlfriend/boyfriend. Road rage is a result of an outburst of all the stress in ones life. Cars are a status symbol in our time. Nice cars give others the impression that the driver has money. Fast or flashy cars give an impression
Some say that one of the main causes of aggressive driving which usually leads to road rage is highway congestion. The road construction on the major interstates adds to
Traffic control establishes a set of rules and regulations that people rely on to help avoid collisions and other hazards. With almost 160 million motorists and 3.8 million miles of public roads in the United States, traffic control on the highways is an important aspect of daily life. Without the control of speed there would be more fatalities than we already have now. Speed limits should be obeyed. A motorist going too slow could cause an accident. When everyone is traveling at the speed limit, a car comes up going 40 mph; if you break everyone will, too, perhaps causing a collision. Motorists depend on traffic control to avoid collisions and travel safely to their destination.
Road rage is a large problem all over the world, especially in the United States. There are two types of road rage. The first one is habitual road rage. It is a learned behavior; drivers have learned to drive in an aggressive manner. The second one is situational road rage. It is based on the situation that surrounds the driver, such as the driver receiving bad news or losing a job. Many people have died on the American highways because of stress or maybe they are in a hurry to get home to watch the football game, to be at work on time, get to a rendezvous doctor. It may be also that they are using their cell phone. Since driving is dangerous things a person can do, losing focus is an evil something. Road rage causes anger, stress,
The primary point of traffic laws is safety, but also keeping order. Following traffic laws is one of the most essential aspects of driving and can increase your safety as well as of the people around you. Knowing the traffic rules in our region and applying them can prevent us from getting involved in an car accident and save us the pain and costs of a traffic ticket due to a violation. If we didn’t have any traffic laws there would be chaos on the roads and many disasters could happen.
