What is peace? Can one really define the word peace in a sentence? Peace is more than just being the opposite of violence. Yet, people seem to think that that’s the only definition for the word peace. Are we born with peace? Is it given to us? Do we seek it? Is peace free? The real question is can we obtain peace. This is because even when we feel in peace with our selves there is always something that disturbs that peace.
The word peace is a noun and it means freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility. Yet, it’s much more than that; peace is what we all wish for. However most of us are not capable of finding it. Peace seems to be an important aspect we must have nowadays. It’s not power that empowers a person to be better or more superior, but the peace in his or her heart that would lead he or she to a brighter future. As human beings’ peace must start deep down within ourselves. We need to be able to understand ourselves in order to find and seek our inner peace, so it can be shared with others. Understanding ourselves better in order to search within, to find the correct thinking, and attitudes as the basis for the right conduct and action to support the cause. Yet, the basis remains the same and that is to co-exist without war, killing, and overpowering a fellow being. Peace sometimes seems like an almost impossible state. As we had seen all over the world, people have been fighting for their own reasons. They battle over land, religion, trade, even over their significant other.
One can wonder whether peace is possible. Maybe people just aren’t suited for a society where problems aren’t solved by drinking. For me peace is possible because I know that each one of us or most of us has thirst for it. People would rather live in peace, pray in peace, die in peace than wake and sleep in war.
