Photography allows us to maintain memories and relish them whenever we desire. Although some advocates might argue that people are no longer enjoying experiences instead taking more pictures, in the essay, “Why We Take Pictures”, by Susan Sontag, she conflates that photography can be used as a defense against anxiety and a tool of empowerment. I agree with Sontag on the significance of photographs and how it allows us to store a part of our extended relatives so we are able to hold on the memories of family. Therefore, we must appreciate how photography allows us to manage anxiety, express feelings and remember our loved ones.

What is a photograph? Now, one might say a photograph is an image taken of oneself, another person(s), and/or a place using a camera. Others might say that a photograph is an image of a moment or memory captured in time that will be forever remembered. Both are correct of course, but I believe a photograph has the potential of meeting both of those ideas. In addition, pictures exist to portray any image of ourselves that we want noticed; by the world. Pictures and selfies can help create any façade one wishes to maintain in order to hide who they really are. These pictures, define who we are as human beings; They enhance our social standing and advocate our individuality. Each picture taken has an underlying message that is trying to be heard.
The time was running fast and I had a couple days left to spend some time with my family and friends. At that time I realized of people I will miss, and I wouldn’t able to meet them again. Even for my parents, it was the toughest time leaving all families and friends behind and start a new life in a new place.
When I was only a year old, I moved to the United States as a refugee from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Although, I don’t remember the journey leaving the troubled country, I do remember having to learn to adapt to life here in the US. Being that my main source of knowledge came from my parents, it made it really difficult to adapt, seeing that they also didn’t speak the language and weren’t familiar with how things worked in the new country we were in. In my pre-school years, I was mostly surrounded by other Bosnians that had also fled the country, so I was unaware about what “normal” American life was. When I finally went to school, I realized how different my life had been compared to that of my peers. Not only was the language barrier hard to
Some Indian cultures believe that if their picture was taken their soul would become trapped in that photograph. Others believe that a camera captures the true essence of a person. That when you look into the photograph you can see who that person truly was. When you click on that button on a camera you are capturing that moment in time. Later when you examine the product of that moment you can see what that person was feeling at that very moment. Pictures can be moving, they can tell a story, and they can preserve a memory.

We got off from plane and headed towards the exit. My cousins and my family case worker were already their waiting for us. I was so shocked and the same time I was so happy to meet with my cousins after 6 years. This days too when I went to airport reminds me of that day. We ate food after that I went upstairs to rest. I was so excited and little bit scared to be here and start my new life in USA because I knew that USA life is different than Nepalese life style, however that day was my best day ever in my life. I felt like my dream came true. I had a lot of things going through my mind. Like what am I going to do, what is best for me things like
Hand granade – A family tradition Adapting to New Orleans was not hard as I thought it would be. I would say it is one of the most welcoming cities I have ever been to. I moved to New Orleans around six years ago from Honduras and adapted fast to it. Its culture, food, music, drinks and traditions are something everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.
Overall, the contrast between vibrancy and darkness forces every individual component of the photograph to be recognized. Despite the hardships of their country, the men captured in this photograph appear to have found joy in the
Family photo albums have played an essential role as guides of familial ideology and belonging of familial memory. Most family photo albums contain an incredible variety of things, both recognized and unidentified all held together by the family. At the point when family collections are assembled we are helped to remember our family history and have nostalgic ties inside the family. Seeing pictures of friends and family that have passed, empowers the families to original copy their lives as they happened and to recollect every one of the memories they made. I believe that family photo albums are a form of cultural artifacts that express the unity and strength within a family.
From time to time, I like to look at picture from the past to remember and to learn about my childhood past. Some are even taking before color pictures existed,
