An introduction to Mah Jong
The exciting game of Mah Jong has existed in one form or another for ages. It is interesting, fun, and stimulates the cognitive processes of the brain. Throughout the years, it has stood the test of time, and its longevity has made it popular again today, as the game has enjoyed a new resurgence with people of all ages.
One of the most intriguing and stimulating aspects of Mah Jong is that it is played with other people, engendering a vibrant, social atmosphere not often observed in society today. Although there exist online versions, there is something very beneficial feeling when one holds the tiles in one's hands and moves them around. That tangible quality of Mah Jong engages one physically, mentally, and again, socially. Those who play it heap effusive praise upon the game.
History prior to the 1920s
Tile games of some form have been found from around 1120 AD in China and Chinese dominoes has been played for centuries in that region. Mah Jong, however, bears a much greater resemblance in play to certain card games, namely those of the Rummy family. Prior to the appearance of Mah Jong, a variety of card games were played in China with at least four types of cards decks. However, just like Mah Jong the majority of these were of the set-collecting variety and certain terms from these old card games are also used in Mah Jong. So, it seems not unreasonable to place Mah Jong as a nephew of those card games.
The conception event that mated the card collection methodology with the tile pieces is usually touted as a missing link and it certainly appears possible that Mah Jong may have been the result of such a unique event although it's just as likely that nothing so straightforward ever o...

...the original MahJong. Moreover , one might argue that MahJong influenced the development of the game Rummy by using the same concept of the “joker” and the tile discarding concept.
In my opinion, I think that Mah Jong is a really exciting game that requires a lot of thinking, patience, flexibility and alertness. It gets even interesting if you constantly play with different players as each players have a different style of playing. Naturally, you may play Mahjong for free, or for actual money at various limits, but however way you play it, Mah Jong is a game that has been enjoyed by the people for many many centuries. I think I have successfully concluded the basic game plays of MahJong and the histories of the game prior to the 19th century. If I were to grade this game, I would give it a 90/100 points as a game to play and 80/100 as an influential game to others.

Go is a fascinating game that, although created in China, gained popularity and permanence in Japan. Go planted its roots in the Heian Period and grew from there. The Heian Period, known as the Golden Age of Japan, was a very stable time with the imperial court at the height of its reign, especially in its early and middle years. Go provided a leisurely pastime and an opportunity for casual conversation that was not only entertaining in a stimulating way, but at the same time maintained the cultivated decorum of the ruling elite of the time which were among its most common players: courtiers. Since Go’s beginnings in the Heian court, the construct of decorum, the diet, and the dress of the court served to facilitate its acceptance and popularity among these aristocrats.
Tetris is a classic arcade puzzle game that requires its players to arrange different shaped blocks into completed rows for as long as the player can. The game was very successful as it appealed to a wide variety of people. A large contributing factor to its success is how simple Tetris is to learn and play. The game remains as a well known piece of popular culture even to this day.
The iconic game that today is known as “Pac-Man” originated from Japan and is a central example of global convergence that combines cultural appropriation as well as cultural hybridity.
For our review of The Absolute Truth of a Part Time Indian, we were assigned to create a board game that reflects on the book. My group created a board game almost like life, but also almost like chutes and ladders. The game board has a series of good, bad, and question cards all depending on where you land. The good cards move your player forward, whereas the worst move you backwards like chutes and ladders. The struggles Arnold faces and represented in the game board as well, such as the question of his identity, his family life, and his school life.
When deciding on instructional model teachers have to take things like gender and the base objective of the PE unit into consideration. The article states that Teachers preferred the tactical game model because students were more motivated when participating in this model. The TMG participants improve significantly in skill development declarative knowledge and game performance compared to other models (turner, 1996). Students would have a significant improvement in game play performance of skills and technical knowledge of the skill methods. This is partly because the environment of TMG supports the specifics of interactive behaviors in a classroom, increasing positive interaction and canceling out negative interaction giving students with lower skill levels a greater opportunity to learn. When students have more opportunities to learn, they are more motivated minimizing off-task behaviors creating a physically active atmosphere. Students enjoy the TGM because it increases their tactical ability and tactical awareness, allowing them to play at a higher game
Humans have over time developed many different tools to enhance their games and play. Many of these tools take the form of boards, or balls, or cards and in many cases games were created using the culture and topics of the time as a basis for their play. Card games are one type of tool which have long reflected the society and culture of the time in which it was created and played. In very early Chinese culture playing cards were created and developed even further when the Chinese invented their own paper. Many years later, through the travels of merchants, paper playing cards came to the European countries (McDonald, “The Real History of Tarot”). The first mention of playing cards came from Belgium, Germany, and Italy where they were mentioned as they were being banned from use as gambling games. Eventually this ban on card games is relaxed and cards become a more integral and legal form of entertainment (“Early References”).

Gaming in Korea played a very important role in the growth of their technological infrastructure and is one of the reasons why Korea became so well-known to the West. Gaming started to first evolve in Korea during the late 1990’s at the time of the Asian Financial Crisis. During this time many people in Korea were unemployed and the general mood at this time was not so great. Because of this people looked toward entertainment to help cheer themselves up and to pass time. But because many Japanese gaming products were banned in Korea, they had to look toward games made from other countries. The most popular game at this time was StarCraft, a game made in the U.S. that was playable only on computers. At this time, StarCraft was a game that was not only very fun to play, but it was also a very cheap game. The game could be easily pirated and played either solo or with othe...
The term "The Great Game" was originally coined to denote the political rivalry that existed between the British Empire and the Russian Empire during the nineteenth century. The two great powers clashed over interests in Central Asia, with Afghanistan at the epicentre. While the British sought a buffer to protect their crown colony India, the Russians feared that the British might undermine their power in Central Asia by inciting rebellion among the regional Muslim tribes. The threat of a unified Germany forced the two empires to broker the Anglo-Russian Agreement in 1907, which effectively signalled the end of the traditional phase of the Great Game. However, the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 left several newly independent nations in the Caspian Sea region, sitting in a power vacuum, where Soviet control once dominated them. Rich in both oil and natural gas, the Caspian Sea region rapidly directed the gaze of foreign powers to Central Asia once more, in what scholars are characterizing as the "New Great Game." As defined in this paper, the New Great Game refers to the geopolitical game played between nations to control Central Asia's energy supply. Unlike the previous phase of the game, it must be noted that the current phase is not rooted in territory, but something much more valuable. The prizes of the New Great Game are oil, pipelines, tanker routes, petroleum consortiums, and contracts. And the players have multiplied to include the United States, Russia and Iran as major powers, in addition to regional powers such as Pakistan India, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. Although the original projection of oil reserves in the 1990s was estimated to be between 100-150 billion barrels (bb), pr...
There are several negative stereotypes associated with video games and those who play them; some of these may often hold true. However, there are plenty of learning opportunities in video games. While the direct purpose of some games is to educate or train, other games that do not directly have this purpose can still become a learning experience for the player. As Ntiedo Etuk, president of the educational video game company Tabula Digital said, “The traditional view of video games has been that they are distractions from the task of learning” (Electronic Education Report 1). Video games are an effective tool for learning and retaining skills both inside and outside the classroom environment. The basic cycle of game play--the introduction to the game, game play, collaboration, improvement of these between each round, and evaluation at the end of the game (Klievink and Janssen 159)--are nearly parallel to the traditional classroom learning cycle of reading a textbook or listening to a lecture, taking a quiz, studying, focusing on items missed on the quiz, and taking a test or exam. Within this cycle, there are many opportunities to develop and perfect both educational, life, and occupational skills.

A very wise man; Charles Schaefer, once said “We are never more fully alive, more completely ourselves, or more deeply engrossed in anything than when we are playing.” To begin with, there is no one explanation about what play really is, other than the fact that it holds infinite numbers of definitions according to every single individual. Play is just not a physical body movement involved in an activity, but more than that if you look outside of the box. For centuries, play has been practiced in its own unique way with not only children, but adults as well.

Sequences: 10-12 participants spilt into two separate groups. Each group gets Playdough and an array of materials chosen by the students. One person from each group views a note card with a leisure activity on it. The group then has to create the leisure activity from Playdough or any other material chosen by the students. Once they are completed, each group has to guess the other teams activity. The first group to guess correctly earns a point (Cameron, n.d.).
