The Dalai Lama Ava Nayar Religion Task Mrs Kimble Introduction The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, describes himself as a simple monk, yet is perceived as the spiritual leader of tibet. Tibet is located to the south-west of China, also bordering India, Nepal, Burma and Bhutan. In my movie, “Seven Years in Tibet”, we follow the journey of an Austrian native named Heinrich Harrer. This movie was based on the true events of his life and is based off of the book he wrote, in which he detailed the experiences. The movie features the unlikely friendship between Heinrich and the Dalai Lama, after a series of enthralling and treacherous events lead Harrer to Lhasa, the Holy home of the Dalai Lama.

Buddha was born Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini, Nepal during the 4th to 6th century B.C. He was born to the King Sakya Sudhodana, who ruled at Kapilavastu in Ancient India, and Queen Maya. After seven days of giving birth to Siddhartha his mother died however, a holy man was to have said that one of two great things would come of the newborn; he would grow up to become a great king or military leader or he would be a great spiritual leader. After the passing of his mother, Buddha grew up in a rich household and lived an extravagant life. According to their beliefs, he married at the age of sixteen to a girl named Yasodhara, which they had a child together. During this time, his father had ordered that he were to live a life of isolation in order to stop his son from seeing the sufferings of the world. Disregarding his father’s wishes, the Buddha found that with experience and knowledge, peace and enlightenment filled the suffering and spiritual emptiness that many felt during his time and is now one of the greatest teachers of peace and patience.
