Elizabeth Diaz English 1A, 10:20 am Creator Mindset Essay There are two types of people; those who are positive and actively improve their life, and then those who only make excuses about how their life is not where they want it to be. The first group of people is what we call creators: they do not blame others or destiny for their mistakes they take full responsibility for their actions. The second group of people is what we call victims and according to the text book titled On course, “A victim mindset keeps people from seeing and acting on choice that could help them achieve the life they want”. This simple attitude impacted my success in college, which lead me to a positive direction in life. According to Downing “ A Creator mindset causes people to see multiple options, choose wisely among them, and take effective actions to achieve the life they want”(44). This states that, a creator needs to learn from old mistakes in order to become better. For example, a growth mindset impacted my success by working hard in my general ed classes. Instead of procrastinating in my classes and eventually failing my courses. I planned time aside to study and do my homework five days in advance.I especially made online appointments with tutors at Mt.San Antonio College if I needed extra assistance with my assignments. Furthermore, when I receive low scores in my exams or homework assignments especially public speeches. I asked myself, professors and classmates what were my common public speaking mistakes. I understand that constructive criticism is a great way to notices one’s common mistakes. Seeking for help has impacted my happiness because I focuses on how to improve physically and mentally. For example, two semesters ago my biggest challenge was the urge to cheat. However, my creator mindset told me that if I cheating on the final exam I would failed the class. I could have gotten an A on my exam if I cheated but my creator mindset showed me that the easy way out is not necessarily the best way. As you can see from my own experiences in college that it is possible to turn things around and embrace challenges in order to move in a positive direction in life. Personal responsibility involves how I mentally or physically react to a certain problem in my life. Dowing states that “The sum of the choices you make from this day forward will create the eventual outcomes of your life” (46). For instance I had to choose between paying my internet bill or buying makeup. My creator mindset told me to be more responsible for my actions and pay for that internet bill. If I did not pay that internet bill, I would not have access to the internet. If I did not have access to the internet I would not be able to finish my online assignments.
