Development Psychology is basically the scientific study of human growth. According to (www.apa.org) it states that development psychology refers to the “changes throughout the lifespan of humans, including physical, cognitive, social, intellectual, perceptual, personality, and emotional growth.” This is important since it helps the understanding of the way humans learn, mature, and adapt to life. Human Development is the process by which inherited traits are expressed as physical and behavioral characteristics. Erik Erikson was a psychologists that saw human development as a series of stages. His theory identifies a series of eight stages in which a healthy developing individual should pass through from infancy to adultry. Each stage builds The third stage is preschool. Preschoolers then start to do things with a purpose. Children begin to assert their power and control by playing and having social interaction. Next, stage which is the fourth stage is childhood which everyone loves to remember. The childhood stage is between the ages of 12 and 18. This is the stage where you mainly develop on your personality, behavior, and physicality. Then, the stage that follows after is the stage of adolescence. The Adolescence stage is between the ages of 19-40. In the adolescence stage humans have a lot of fidelity. They are also much more mature and developed as humans. After the stage of adolescence is the stage of young adults. When you are then young adults you usually have kids by that time of age. You would have these close friendships with some of your childhood friends and family. The next stage is the stage of middle adulthood. Middle adulthood is in between the ages of 65 and beyond. In your middle adulthood you have much care for a lot of people and things. You end up having lack of activities and growth. Lastly, the last group is the senior group. Seniors are very wise and know a lot. Seniors love to reflect on one’s life or Human development doesn't stop growing its continuous until death. The term human development can also be defined as an expansion of human capabilities, enhancement of freedom, and fulfillment of human rights. Human development also help humans have control over a living environment. However, there are synonyms for human development such as advancement, improvement, up growth, maturity, or enlargement. Development psychology can be specified by a way of growth in individuals through infancy, adolescence, and old age. Animals also, have some type of human type behavior that helps humans develop. At this stage the adolescents undergo an identity crisis during which they must establish an identity, goals, and a purpose. Erikson, E. H. (1994). The Intimacy vs. Isolation stage occurs in young adulthood ages 18 to 40 years. During this time the young adult begins to share themselves more intimately with others and explores significant relationships with others especially in marriage. The seventh stage is Generativity vs. Stagnation and occurs during middle adulthood, ages 40 to 65 yrs.
